ASIM - Continuous Simulation SBR

With ASIM 5.0.1.0

1. Setup SBR plant files

Setup the SBR plant files for the dynamic simulations. For example create one plant file for
the steady state simulation with only nitrification and one with an additional period for
denitrification.(Supernatant: Soluble parts, Mixed Liquor: Waste biomass)

Steady state plant file: To get a ‘steady state’ before starting the dynamic simulation: Choose
dynamic simulation “Computation  Dynamic Simulation” and calculate number of cycles to
reach steady state (around 3 SRT). This result can now be used as the new ‘steady state’. The
results are set as initial conditions automatically. Nevertheless store this plant file as your new
steady state plant file.

2. Continuous Simulation

Choose “Variation  Continuous Variation on” to activate the continuous simulation. With
the option “New Continuous Variation” a .csv continuous variation file is created. This file
can be edited in Excel. In field B3 the total number of cycles for the subsequent simulation in
ASIM must be entered (see Figure 1).

Figure 1: Example of a continuous variation file in Excel. In field B3 the total number of cycles must be entered.

Store the continuous variation file and load it by “Variation  Load Continuous Variation”.
Now the dynamic simulation can be computed by “Computation  Dynamic Simulation”
(see Figure 2). The number of cycles should be the same as entered in field B3.

As soon as the simulation is finished: the text „simulation not started” is displayed (again) and
the button ‘Show Results’ is available. Press Show Results to see and store the simulation
results. Do not store the new plant file unless you want your initial conditions to be changed.
