Aggregate is a broad category of coarse particulate material used in construction, including sand, gravel, crushed stone,
slag, recycled concrete and geosynthetic aggregates.
It is used in Sieve Analysis (Gradation test). Sieve analysis helps to determine the particle size distribution of the coarse
and fine aggregates.
The relationship between soil moisture content and compacted dry density largely determine the construction
specifications and quality control of compacted earth fill.
Shear Strength is the strength of a material or component against the type of yield or structural failure where the
material or component fails in shear.
Cohesive soil means clay (fine grained soil), or soil with a high clay content, which has cohesive strength. Cohesive soil is
hard to break up when dry, and exhibits significant cohesion when submerged.
