Course Description:

This course offers "An overview of research methodology including basic concepts employed in
quantitative and qualitative research methods. Includes computer applications for research.

Course Objectives

1. Develop foundational knowledge of key research methods


2. Critically analyze business research
3. Develop research questions and apply appropriate methods for research
4. Conduct original research using quantitative and qualitative research methods

Delivery Methods

The course will consist of lectures, readings and presentations, participation in discussions,
exercises, and written assignments.

Content

The course is divided into six topic areas:

 Part 1: Introduction and Basic Research Concepts (2 weeks)


 Part 2: Qualitative Research Methods (2 weeks)
 Part 3: Quantitative Research Methods and Statistics (4 weeks)
 Part 4: Mixed Methods Research (1 week)
 Part 5: Reporting Results of Data Analysis (2 weeks)
 Part 6: Completing the Research Project (1 week)

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

1. Design and plan a research study.


2. Apply statistical methods to business research.
3. Apply research techniques to commerce and business issues.
4. Differentiate between descriptive and inferential statistics.
5. Describe sampling theory.
6. Devise appropriate sampling distributions.
7. Write and test a hypothesis.
8. Contrast and compare between the types of descriptive, correlational, and qualitative
nonexperimental research.
9. Apply appropriate statistical tests.
10. Write a research proposal.
11. Write a publishable paper using APA guidelines.
12. Apply ethical research standards.
