Introduction : South Klang Community Library
Requirements
Project Brief
Students will concentrate on designing a community library within an urban infill site. The design of
the building is to consist of appropriate architectural responses that address the aspects of the urban
street context and user behavioural patterns as discerned and analysed in the Preliminary Studies.
Apart from developing a narrative on architectural strategy in response to the relevant questions
pertaining to community and its context, the design should take into consideration a holistic
application of structural, spatial, functional and environmental requirements to address the user
needs for a community library. The design development of this project will include an introduction to
the legislative restrictions that impact an architectural scheme, the integration of lighting and
acoustic design, as well as the design exploration and detailing of the façade and building envelopes
that is coherent with the architectural language of the overall design project
Design Approach
The idea of the library is known as a place to store data in the form of books, serves as a pragmatic
function within the urban context. The data itself would require an observer, which unfolds the data
to convert in the form of knowledge, which is an abstract concept, without formality that validates the
converted data depending on the observer. It is uncertain, subjective and it is perceivable, yet it is still
real.
To question the fact, could the former library perceived differently by different users as similar to the
behavior of understanding a book? Could it be rather subjective and not objective to be seen just as a
library?
The design of the facade will emphasize on blurring the user’s perception, where the facade openings,
and its material will be considered to be permeable and structural element would be exposed to
portray as the community of Klang, which supports the underlying fragmentation issues of Klang that
hopes people could once rejuvenate the glory of old days in Klang.

Expanded Metal SteelStuds
1. Stack Effect 1. Unable to control flow of light.
2. Natural Ventilation 2. Requires additional “skin” to weatherproof
3. Additional Security interior.
