S ara hands in foam

Learning priority: developing verbal communication skills for range of purposes.

Sara, it has been interesting to observe you over the past months; as your brother started
school, you have grown into a big girl and found friends here at An-Nur childcare centre.

Recently we had a good go with a calming shaving foam sensory activity. Often you
engage in social play with your friends, and talk is dominantly Arabic. I enjoy when you join
me in activity like this, so I can see how you engage in your second language English and
the level of your development in it.

Sara you got totally immersed in your play, what a bright big smiles you had! You were
totally quiet for a while, observing your friends, showing your hands to communicate what
kind of shapes the foam was making. Now this is the part I like, towards the end you
expressed your self with words “dirty hands”, “clean hands”. Next we used words together
and repeated them together, Sara you were listening to me and taking in different
commands in English.

What a good learning little miss! We need to have more one-on-one time with you Sara.
Exploring different sensory materials (like this) together that feed natural curiosity, develop
confidence would be good pathways for growing your verbal communication skills.
