Q-1 Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow: ( 4 marks)

Unhealthy eating causes all kinds of health problems such as obesity and even heart disease.

So people, especially growing children, have to eat healthy. What does it mean to eat healthy?

It means choosing the right combination of foods to remain healthy. To stay healthy you must
also take enough exercise to keep your body from accumulating enough fat but not so much
that you get incredibly thin. Dieting is something that you should never resort to. The growing
body requires all the essential food groups. Eat well, eat enough and eat sensibly. This is what
is meant by eating intelligently. Skipping meals can lead to stomach ulcers. Your body pours
acids into your stomach as it digests food. Eating too little or not eating at regular times can
result in the acid tearing away at the tissue that lines the stomach. It does’nt matter if you eat
a few big meals or many small ones, but eat at regular times every day. Fast foods, soft drinks,
excessive consumption of fat, meat products, liquor etc. have to be replaced by the traditional
foods of Indians such as cereals, wheat, vegetables, pulses, rice and milk.

Q-2 Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow: (6 Marks)

Students often complain of being overworked. The burden of heavy syllabi and the pressure of
performing well in all examinations keep them tense all the time. High expectations of their
parents make their situation even more miserable . As a result, even very young children have
started suffering from tension and depression, two ailments quite unfamiliar to our great
grandparents. There is a simple technique, which, if applied sincerely, can keep the students
relaxed. Don’t be frightened by the large amount of work you are required to do. Concentrate
on only the work in hand, treating the rest of the work as if it did not exist. Think of the one
race you are running. Think of the one lesson you are learning. This will help you to achieve
more without getting tense.

Finding a huge pile of books on a young student’s table , an elderly person in the
neighbourhood said, ”What a burden, my son! I pity you. How do you manage?

“I don’t think of all the work I have to do,” said the student. “I focus on only the lesson I am
reading at the moment. So I don’t feel overworked at all.”

This student’s style of working makes an important point relevant to all of us.
