SYNOPSIS

MULAN
In a war which is as hard to explain the beginnings of as to give reasons for, Hua
Hu, the mightiest warrior, defeats the Tajue army and once again brings victory and
honor to the Sui Empire. He is given a hero’s welcome and his homecoming is
celebrated by his neighbors and family.

Meanwhile, the Jade Emperor, delighted with Hua Hu, plots another of his
concocted wars. But with Hua Hu being crippled in one leg from a stab wound, the
Jade Emperor contrives to make his favorite warrior’s next child a boy and be the next
great warrior. Learning of her husband’s injury, Ji Li now, more than ever, wants their
next child to be a boy to continue his legacy.

However, the sovereign queen, Wang Mu, tired of the gruesomeness of war and
the Jade Emperor’s capricious ruling of the world, secretly hatches a plan of her own to
thwart the Jade Emperor’s. When the time came, Ji Li gives birth to a third baby girl to
her utter dismay. Hua Hu names her Mulan.

Years pass and Mulan turns into an ungainly young woman. She acquires the
skills of her father, but Ji Li is not appeased and is more disappointed at Mulan’s
inability to find a suitable man to marry her.

The Jade Emperor learns of Wang Mu’s ploys. He lashes out by stirring up a new
war, one that would be the bloodiest, goriest and be the most spectacular war in the
history of the world.

An announcement alarms the land: Each family must send one male family
member to be part of the Emperor’s army. Hua Hu, being the only man in the
household is forced to obey the order. Not wanting her ageing father to go into battle,
Mulan wears his armor and sets off to take her father’s place.

Disguised as a man, Mulan is thrown into a world where women are considered
inferior, and where men are trained to achieve greatness. But she finds an ally in
Colonel Yu, the leader of the army. Though they had initially locked horns, Mulan
proves her mettle as a fighter and she and Colonel Yu are now side by side in battle.

War after war, they find themselves victors. But the long years of battle now
show in the soldiers’ faces and they are overcome with a great sadness. Despite this,
the Jade Emperor yearns for his grotesque need for blood and gore to prevail. But
Mulan has had enough and decides to put a stop to all the killings. With a cry to the
heavens, the soldiers put down their weapons.

When Mulan came home, her father didn’t recognize her. He asks the
“gentleman” about his daughter who disguised herself as a man to save her father
from going into war. When Mulan reveals who she is, her family is ecstatic. They have
heard of the greatness of a courageous soldier who valiantly fought for the honor of
family and country. And now she is home.
