 HOW TO USE ESSENTIAL OILS WITH HORSES
One of the great things about using essential oils with horses is that it’s very similar to using them
with humans so a lot of the same rules apply. There are three ways that you can use Young Living
essential oils. Since Young Living’s oils are 100% pure therapeutic grade, they are safe to use in the
following three ways:

Aromatically Topically

Inhale directly from the bottle, or place a
drop in the palms of your hands and cup
over your horse’s nose.
Diffuse
Use a cool air diffuser to diffuse essential
oils into the environment. Young Living
offers several. This is not the same as a
cool air humidifier.
Neat or Diluted. Diluted can be done
with carrier oils such as the V-6, coconut
oil. jojoba oil, olive oil, etc. Apply at the
source of concern. Use on your horses
poll, spine, cornet band, and inside
their hooves to provide extra support.
*Always start off using a carrier oil and
dilute at 50%.*

Internally

You can mix Young Living Vitality Oils

directly into your horse’s grain and
water, use a syringe with carrier oil or
water, or drop them inside your horse’s
lower lip.

Bugger Spray:
• 20 Drops Peppermint
• 20 Drops Purification
• 15 Drops Eucalyptus Globus
• 20 Drops Thyme
• 1 Capful Thieves Cleaner
• Combine ingredients in
16 oz bottle and fill with
distilled water.
Tummy Rub:
• 10 Drops Digize
• 10 Drops Copaiba
• 10 Drops Peppermint
• Massage with carrier oil
on abdomen and around
naval.
Hoof Cooties Spray:
• 5 Drops Lemon
• 5 Drops Citrus Fresh
• Thieves Household Cleaner
• Fill 4oz bottle with Thieves
Cleaner and add oils.
Tired Muscle Rinse:
• 2 Drops Copaiba
• 2 Drops Panaway
• 2 Drops Peppermint
• 1/2 cup Epsom Salt
• Add oils to epsom salt first
and let absorb. Dissolve the

bucket of water and sponge
your horse.
