This document is an abstract for a thesis that examines the relationship between stress and hyperemesis gravidarum, severe nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, in first trimester primigravid mothers. The study used a correlational analytic cross-sectional design with a sample of 50 pregnant mothers experiencing hyperemesis gravidarum. A questionnaire was used to measure stress levels. Chi-square statistical analysis found a significant relationship between stress and hyperemesis gravidarum. Psychological stress from factors like family problems, fear of pregnancy and childbirth may induce nausea and vomiting as an unconscious reluctance to the pregnancy.
