Opening of Japan
Opening of Japan
- Japan was forced to open under the demonstration of military strength by the US
Commodore Matthew Perry in 1853. At that time the ruling government of Japan
Tokugawa Shogunate could not do anything in face of the military superiority of
the US naval force. Finally the government had to accept the unequal Treaty of
Kanagawa (1854) and the door of secluded Japan was opened.
