Meiji Modernization (1868-1912)

- After the opening of Japan, some Japanese warrior classes daimyo and samurai
became disillusioned and they saw the need to overthrow the static and
conservative Tokugawa Shogunate. Finally they overthrew it after a brief civil war
in January 1868, and there was the restoration of imperial rule in Japan which
was known as Meiji Restoration (1868) and Emperor Meiji finally gained back his
power from the Tokugawa Shogunate which had rule Japan since 1603. And some
former young samurai were willing to help the new Meiji government. Under the
support of Emperor Meiji, there was the introduction of Meiji Moderrnization
(1868-1912) which totally transformed Japan from a feudal country to a modern
one.
