Introduction:

In assignment 03.06, you learned how three-dimensional models can help represent the geometry,
or shape, of molecules.

In this assignment, you use what you have learned from the lesson to determine the properties of
and types of intermolecular forces of the molecules.

Procedure:
1. Refer to assignment 03.06 for your models of H2O, NH3, CH4, and CO2.
2. Use the information from the lesson to determine the answers to the questions below.

Conclusion:
For each of your molecules, answer the following questions:

1. Determine the electronegativity between the atoms of each molecule.

CO2 = 1.0

H2O = 0.8

NH3 = 3.1

CH4 = 5.9

2. Identify the bond as either ionic or covalent.

CO2 = Covalent

H2O = Covalent

NH3 = Covalent

CH4 = Covalent

3. State whether the molecule is polar or nonpolar.

CO2 = Nonpolar

H2O = Polar

NH3 = Polar

CH4 = Non Polar

4. Identify the structure as having hydrogen bonding, dipole-dipole moments, or London dispersion
forces (LDF).
Yes changing the distance and changing the flow does affect the bend of the water. I only used a comb,
no balloon, since I didn't have any. The other changes would be, how the size of the comb affects the
experiment, or how you move the teeth of the comb.
