Measurement Assessment

20th September 2018

SCSA: Use direct and indirect comparisons to decide which is longer, heavier or holds more, and explain
reasoning in everyday language (ACMMG006)

Activity 1: longer
2-minute timer to build the tallest tower. Put in order of height.

Activity 2: heavier
Scales with a variety of resources. Children need to categorise into two groups: heavy and light.

Activity 3: holds more

Sand/rice/seeds/water: how many scoops does it take to fill the container? Ask children to guess which will
hold the most. Then take turns to fill the containers and put in order of which can hold the greatest
amount to which can hold the smallest amount.

Activity 4: assessment
Children are each given their own set of resources to explore and need to answer these questions:
-which is longer?
-which is heavier?
-which holds more?
