Grade 2

“Understanding of time standard measures of length, mass and capacity and are using square-tile
units”

Lesson Plan in Mathematics

Grade 2

I. Objectives
By the end of the lesson, the pupils are expected to:
A. The learner demonstrates understanding of time standard measures of length, mass
and capacity and area using square-tile units
B. Performance Standards: the learner is able to apply knowledge of time, standard
measures of length, weight and capacity, and area using square –tile units in
mathematical problems and real-life situations

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Understanding of time standard measures of length, mass and capacity and are
using square-tile units
B. Materials: Printed Pictures

III. Procedure
 Preliminary Activities
A. The teacher will begin the class by getting the students lead the prayer and checking the
attendance

B. Motivation
The teacher will play some music about mathematics like counting numbers to help the
students memorize the numbers. Raise the printed pictures of the topic today and let
the students guest the today’s lesson.

C. Drill
Say: Show cut-out of food items.
When I show an object, measured by gram, clap your hands once, if an object measured
by kilogram, clap your hands twice.

D. Review
Show the printed picture as shown below. Let us compare the objects being weight.
 Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
Present the word story.

Si Nene at Bebeng ay namili ng prutas sa palengke. Bumili si Nene ng 300 grams (g)
na Apple at si Bebeng bumili ng 3 kilogram (kg) na Strawberry.

Say: The apple weigh 500 grams (g) while the strawberry weigh 3 kilograms (kg).

Ask: Which are heavier? Apple or Strawberry? Why?

2. Performing Activity

Group 1: Look at the picture below. Compare the fruits and vegetables in each set. Put
BOX the one that is heavy and CIRCLE the one that is light.
Group 2: Compare. Write the symbols. > < =
1. 200 g _______ 100 g 6. 50 g _____ 10 kg
2. 5 kg _______ 6 kg 7. 20 kg ______ 16 kg
3. 6 kg _______ 6000 g 8. 800 g ______ 8 g
4. 10 kg _______ 8 g 9. 3 g ______ 4 g
5. 1000 g ______ 2 kg 10. 9 kg ______ 700 g

3. Processing the Activity

Remind the children that the abbreviation for gram is g and the abbreviation for
kilogram is kg.

Say: In measuring and comparing different masses of objects we use the key term such
as greater than ( > ), less than ( < ) or equal ( =)

4. Summarizing the Lesson

Ask: How do we compare the weight in grams and kilograms?

IV. Assessment:
Itandi ug isuwat ang simbolo < >=.
1. 600g _____ 500g 5. 5000g _____ 5kg
2. 2000g _____ 1000g 6. 12g _____ 12kg
3. 10kg _____ 25kg 7. 500g _____ 1 kg
4. 100g _____ 4kg 8. 4000g _____ 2kg

V. Home Activity
Gawain sa Balay
1. 4 kg > _____ ( 2kg , 10kg, 8 kg )
2. 10kg < _____ ( 20kg, 100g, 300g )
