Throughout aggregates’ lifespan, they normally undergo
substantial wear and tear. In general, aggregates should be hard and tough enough to resist crushing, degradation and disintegration from any associated activities like production, manufacturing, stockpiling, placing and compaction. Aggregates not adequately resistant to abrasion may cause premature structural failure and/or a loss of skid resistance. The sample aggregate we used in the experiment is suitable for use in bituminous road surfacing because the percentage is 24.344%, which is less than 40%. The maximum percentage is 40% based on the ASTM C-31 Specification. We can also conclude that that 24.344% of the original sample passed through the No.12 sieve.
Conclusion Experiment no. 9
After the experiment was performed, the objective to
determine the fineness of sample cement by sieve method was achieved. All the necessary data were gathered which includes the weight of the sample cement and the weight of the residue left the sieve. Using the formula for determining its fineness, we can conclude that the sample cement is suitable to be used for construction as it meets the standards set by ASTM which states that the Fineness should not be less than 78% . On the other, if the resulting Fineness of the sample is closely meeting the standard, it can still be used in light load bearing structures. We can also conclude that cement’s fineness indicates its freshness. The higher the fineness, indicates fresher cement.
