Lesson idea implementation:

The teacher will begin the study of the famous Americans using Harriet Tubman as an introduction. The
teacher will inform the students that they will be creating a research project where they will collect
information about Harriet Tubman’s life. The students will have to remember one interesting fact from the
video.

After the video, the teacher will discuss the interesting facts that each student came up with. Students will be
put into pairs and will watch the video once more, listening for a new fact about Harriet Tubman. After, they
will return to the whole class and add their brand new facts to the list.

When the list is completed, the class (as a whole) will create an E-Book together and each student will state
their fact along with the story timeline.

Reflective Practice: To extend this lesson to a higher LoTi level, the students can be put into groups that are
assigned a new historical figure. Then, they will watch a new video about the person and come up with more
interesting facts. Then, the individual groups will create their own E-Book (with the assistance of a teacher)
about their new historical figure. After this, the virtual books will be uploaded to a class blog that will be
available for parents to access.
