"If you could get one 'do-over' in life, what would it be and why?"
(250 words or less)
Application deadline on May 31, 2019
Response:

A lifetime full of regrets and undesired outcomes are one of the things
that many people have in common, and if possible, I am sure most of
society would also go back in time. For me, there is one specific date
on the calendar I would willingly do anything for just to reverse time
and make up for my mistakes. On December 24, 2010, I had
appointment with a friend in third grade to meet at the community
Christmas tree at 12:00 p.m. The day of that date sneaked upon me and
like every cliché scenario, I fell ill. Unable to move or talk, I was stuck
to the bed with a large blanket trapping my small body. I was feeling
stressed and realizing how my friend might be waiting there, shivering
in the cold weather, tears fell from my eyes. When going back to
school, I discovered that she had laid in bed for days with a fever and
as I had imagined, the close bond we shared was washed away like a
sand castle near the shore. If I had made a greater effort to go to the
meeting place, maybe she would have pitied me and put off the date
for another day. Unfortunately, that is impossible now. Going back in
time to inform her about my sickness is one of my only wishes. The
past cannot be changed, so I will continue to live with my past and
grieve on my faults.
