 Cooperative Research

A cooperative is an autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet

their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly-

owned and democratically controlled enterprise. For our research in cooperative, we

have decided to go and interview Cebu People’s Multi-Purpose Cooperative. We

decided to interview Mauricia Lapiz, a long-time member and officer of Cebu People’s

Multi-Purpose Cooperative.

Transcript: (Interview done in bisaya)

Jules: Maam, unsa ni nga klase nga kooperatiba ang Cebu People’s Multi-Purpose

Cooperative?

Maam Mauricia: Ang among kooperatiba kay daghan jud siya og functions or serbisyo

nga gihatag.. mao nang kung mangutana ka unsa nga klase kay saksak sinagol man

dong.

Kyle: Pila namo ka tuig nga nag exist maam or naghatag sa inyong serbisyo?

Maam Mauricia: 45 years nami dong.. mag 46 years karon December 21.

Lawrence: Unsa mga serbisyo inyong gipanghatag sa inyong mga membro, maam?

Maam Mauricia: Daghan mi nga gi offer nga serbisyo dong.. Naa’y para edukasyon,

pangkabuhayan para magpahuwam og capital para maka sugod og negosyo, para

housing pud sa mga membro.

Julius: Pila na ka membro og tao inyong natabangan, maam?

Maam Mauricia: Sa 45 ka years sa among kooperatiba, milyon najud among

natabangan, dong.

Emmanuel: Maam, unsa pa’y makabahin nimo about sa inyong kooperatiba?

Maam Mauricia: Ang mga na membro jud sa amo’a dong kay naa ju’y kaugmaon kay

sama sa ako’a nga inahan sa pamilya nga kuwang ang income para sa mata’g adlaw.

Naka utang jud ko sa amo kooperatiba pero gamay rajud kaayo ang interest. Mao nang

nakapatabang nako pagpa skwela sa akong mga anak.

Conclusion

From what we gathered from the interview, Cebu People’s Multi-Purpose

Cooperative is a hybrid kind of cooperative. They have been operating for 45 years and

they’ve helped millions of people with their various services. It is also a sight to see

Maam Mauricia communicating with us because she is really passionate about the

cooperative and what it has done to her life. Overall, the research was productive and

we were able to gain new knowledge about cooperatives.
