Reflection Paper- First Day at Dimasalang Health Center

Honestly, I did not know what to expect on this day as this was my second exposure to the
health center. My RLE’s first exposure during the first semester lasted only one day due to the
class interruptions which results us in greatly lacking experience. That morning I can remember
being anxious while waiting for our service to arrive and pondered in my mind whether I was ready
for what was in stored for my RLE at the health center.
Later as we got to the health center, it was already filled with numerous of patients on
queue that there was no longer any time for proper debriefing and had to go straight to work and
use our prior knowledge on what we reviewed the night before. I was unsure whether I was
performing the admission process correctly, in means of proper filling out of forms with necessary
and accurate information needed as in our previous assigned health center were not provided with
such forms. The first client I encountered was a male that had a chief complaint of having cough
and colds for the past two weeks, he did not have any records at the health center so I had to fill
them out together with him and later took his vital signs and so forth and continued what I did with
the other patients I encountered.

I can conclude that my first day at the health center did not turn out as well to fill my CI’s
expectations knowing my RLE and I lacked greatly but nevertheless this day each of us gained a
lot of experience from learning the flow in admitting clients for check-ups or EPI and chart
immunization on the client record. As I interacted with the clients that day I would constantly
observe their facial reactions wondering whether they were disappointed on how I lacked in
efficiency in providing care that day by being a mere novice a student nurse. But thankfully the
clients I encountered with were nice and patient as I interacted with them. I know not every client
I will encounter in the succeeding meetings not just here in the health center but my future assigned
rotation area will be like them, this served a lesson for me to further improve my current skills and
develop competency.
