STRANGERS IN THE DARK

Story and Screenplay By

Ivo Byrt
A LOVE STORY between two unknown outcasts: A fourteen
bullied and abused boy, and a girl his age, who's something
more than meets the eye

IMPORTANT NOTE: It is the author's intention that this film


will be presented in Black-And-White, but the main details
like RED, will be presented in RED. Like a Sin City effect.

He who seeks what he should not, knows what he does not


want.

STRANGERS IN THE DARK

BLACK SCREEN.

MARCO: (V.O)
I mean, we all have this crazy dreams, right?? We
all so. Mine……Well, I think mine was different from
all the others’ dreams. My dream was about a boy who
fell in love with a beautiful angel, but it turned
out that the beautiful angel was actually a monster.
But……he still loved her anyway. Despite all changes
on her. He still loved her.

TITLE CARD: "The scariest monsters are the ones that lurk
within our souls..." ~ Edgar Allan Poe.

INSERT:

WINDOW - DAY

We see a construction site, through a window. We start to


back up slowly. We’re inside of an……

INT – APARTMENT – A MONTH AGO

Title Card: SEPTEMBER

We slowly start to backup, and we stop and see a family


photo: We see a father, a mother, and the two kids, one
was Little, the other, big. Then, an unseen adult figure
approaches and grabs the picture.

INT – ROOM

Innaudible, we see the unseen adult figure packing up.


INT - ANOTHER ROOM

We see two Young, also unseen, figures. One is older, the


other, younger. They’re also packing up. They’re probably
moving. The younger figure is wearing blue jeans and a red
sweater. He always does.

As the older unseen figure leaves the room, the younger


figure, with a bag full of stuff, looks back at the
room, we see his eye only: A Brown eye. It’s a boy.

He looks at the room, probably for one last time.

Then, he closes the door.

INT – MAIN ROOM

The three unseen figures close the door, leaving the


apartment. We slowly turn and slowly approach to the
apartment.

INT – ANOTHER ROOM

From the window, we see the three unseen figures, putting


their packages on a car. They all get in. The adult
figure drives. The car drives away.

As they leave, we start to slowly back up, and we start


checking the same room in which the younger figure left.

A CUT:

Then, we see a Wall, like those walls where kids write
their moments in there.

We slowly go up, we see written moments like: I GOT MY


FIRST TOOTH OFF, 2005 / WE WENT TO THE ZOO, 2007 /

Various messages on the Wall, until we finally come to


the last one, and we stop and look at it:

SEPTEMBER 19, 2017: WE’RE MOVING OUT

CUT TO:

INT – ROAD

We see the car driving away, in a road far away from the
apartment.

INT - CAR

The younger figure, with earphones on his ears, looks at


the window.

CUT TO:

EXT – GAS STATION – LATER THAT DAY

We see a Little Windmill, blowing so much wind. We go


down and we realice now we’re on a gas station.

INT – GAS STATION STORE – CONTINUOUS


The same unseen younger figure, the boy, is getting
snacks for the trip. He goes to the line. Then, the
younger figure turns and sees an adult looking at him.
The adult is a man, and he’s holding a news paper they
were selling on the station store. They both stare at
each other.

CASHIER: (O.S)
Next!

The younger figure looks front and advances to the cashier


with the snacks he’s about to buy.

CUT TO:

INT – TOWN – NIGHT

We see the car, slowly advancing through a town. We see a


sign:

WELCOME TO QUISCO

INT – NEIGHBORHOOD

The car slowly pulls over to A RED HOUSE, looks like a


shack.

EXT – HOUSE IN FRONT

We see a shadowing figure, staring with orange eyes, how


the three unseen figures start unpacking, and taking the
packages to the house.

EXT – RED SHACK

The younger unseen figure looks at the house in front,


and sees nobody in the curtain. He looks back at the red
shack and goes inside.

SMASH TO BLACK:

SMASH TO:

INT - TOWN – NIGHT

Night approached. The town was empty. It was 10 PM. It was


the slaughtering time. Why? Every night, at 10 PM, people
in the town got slaughtered by someone………or something.

QUISCO,
A quiet, small, and "peaceful" American-Chilean town,
located in Chile. Population??? Not much to count. With
cabins, shacks, houses, stores, restaurants, and a FOREST.
A creepy looking forest, like one of those that you see in
the movies.

Now that we've met the town, it's time to get inside the
story we're about to see:

It's night. We’re focusing on the night sky, then w ego


down, and see angles of the town. And the wind and
SILENCE are tormenting the empty streets. We hear
nothing. THEN.....

EXT - BAR - CONTINUOUS


Out of the town's BAR, we see a drunk man, Benny
(30something), shaggy hair, a slacker, being kicked out of
the place. He's holding an empty beer glass bottle in his
hand. As he's kicked out, the doors shut.
BENNY
Come on, just one more drink. I swear
nothing will happen.

SILENCE.

BENNY
Oh, c'mon, I'm not even THAT DRUNK.

Doors lock on him.

Benny then scoffs and walks drunk.

He still walks.

Then, he walks into

INT - ALLEY - CONTINUOUS

He still walks drunk. Benny has never been like this in his
entire life. As he still walks....
WHOOPS!!! He falls to a puddle of water. His face lands on
the wasted rain puddle.

As he stands up, his face full covered in water, he still


walks. He starts to get better from his drunk state.
As he sees the bottle in his hands, he THROWS IT AWAY. IT
BREAKS OFF SCREEN. He still walks into THE ALLEY.
BENNY:
Trash. This whole world is a puddle
of pure trash and shit.

As he still walks, wind approaches to the alley.

EXT - HOUSE - CLOSE TO ALLEY - CONTINUOUS

A dog does out of a house in the dog's door. The dog sees
the ALLEY. The dog starts to bark out loud.

INT - ALLEY - CONTINUOUS Benny

hears the dog's barking. He


looks back and...

He starts mocking the dog's barking. He barks out loud too.


As he looks front, sick of this, and the dog still barks.

EXT – HOUSE

The dog turns from barking out loud to whimpering.


Something is not good.

INT – ALLEY

Benny stops barking.

As he keeps walking, he sees an unexpected thing.

He sees a girl, sitting on the alley. Crying on her knees.


But, what's she doing there at the time of the night???

BENNY:
(stuttering)
Hello???

THE GIRL turns to Benny.

She is Brown skinned, she has black


shaggy hair, Brown eyes, she’s
wearing blue jeans, and a black
hoodie. And black shoes.

BENNY approaches to THE GIRL.


BENNY gets down to her. He's on his knees. Isn't he still
drunk???

BENNY:
Hey there. What're you doing here???
GIRL:
I accidentally fell and broke my leg.
My parents didn't even came back for me.

BENNY:
Let me see your leg.

She shows it to him. It looks broken.


BENNY:

Jesus.

GIRL:
Oops, right???

Benny looks worried.

GIRL:

Would you help me??.....Pleeeeeease???

BENNY:

Yeah, sure.

(silence)

Uhh, do you want me to carry you???

GIRL:
Mhmm.

BENNY:
Do you know the address???

GIRL:
Yes. But, if they're not home, you
can carry me to a hospital. I can't
walk.

Benny looks around. Nobody is watching him.

Benny looks back to THE GIRL.

BENNY:
Alright, I'll be careful. Here WE go.

As Benny carefully carries THE GIRL...

GIRL:
OW!!! OW!!! Careful.

BENNY:
I will. Don't worry.
As Benny sighs, THE GIRL'S head is on Benny's shoulder. But
something is wrong with her: HER EYES TURN FROM BROWN TO
ORANGE. Her eyes are wide open.

BENNY:
Alright. So, you guide my
way, k???
SILENCE.
Benny walks out of the ALLEY.

BENNY:
Ok.
(Then)
You don't weight a
thing.
(sighs)
You know, this has become in the
weirdest night of my life. You know
why??? First I got kicked of my bar
permanently, and now I found you
lying here....

Then, THE GIRL DROPS A MONSTROUS GROWL, SHE OPENS HER MOUTH,
REVEALING BIG SHARP POINTED TEETH
Then...

THE GIRL BITES BENNY'S SHOULDER WITH HER SHARP TEETH

EXT - HOUSE - CLOSE TO ALLEY - CONTINUOUS

As the dog keeps barking, we hear Benny screaming out loud,


off screen. The dog stops barking.

EXT - ALLEY - CONTINUOUS

As we're approaching to the alley, we hear Benny being


attacked by something. We also hear the GIRL grunting
strongly. THEN....

On the edge of the alley, WE SEE A BLOODIED HAND


GRABBING THE EDGE OF THE EXIT. Then, it slowly diez
at it rests on the ground, and the hand is pulled
back inside the alley.

EXT - HOUSE - CLOSE TO ALLEY - CONTINUOUS


As the dog watches, he whimpers.

INT - ALLEY - CONTINUOUS

We see the girl feeding on Benny's rests.

As we focus on the ground, we stop and see one note, a bit


bloody covered white note with a message on it:

"I'm sorry Marco"

CUT TO BLACK.
TITLE IN RED:

(A LOVE STORY)

TITLE FADE AWAY.

SMASH TO:

INT - MARCO'S ROOM - 6:58 AM - DAYS EARLIER

Waking up from a nightmare, MARCO, brown hair, brown eyes, a


bullied and abused boy. Isn't HE THE BOY in the bloodied
paper note??? Isn’t the kid from the beginning? He looks
front.
TITLE CARD: OCTOBER

Then, he sighs and looks up. To the ceiling.

He looks melancholic.

He's depressed and sick of the everyday routine.


He wears a short white shirt as an every night pyjama. And
boxers. We don't see the boxers. Marco is not your typical
emo teen.

Then, he stands up. He hears his neighbors complaining and


arguing. He stands up and he picks up from his drawer: A
CAMERA. He starts recording the next:

ON CAMERA'S VIEW - we see two people: THE NEIGHBOR, thirty


something, and THE NEIGHBOR'S WIFE, also thirty something.
They're arguing.

OFF CAMERA'S VIEW - Marco is watching, reflective and


melancholic.

ON CAMERA'S VIEW - then, we see something UNEXPECTED, THE

NEIGHBOR SLAPS THE HELL OUTTA HIS WIFE. SHE FALLS TO THE
GROUND, HURT.

Then, THE NEIGHBOR LOOKS AT THE CAMERA.

OFF CAMERA'S VIEW - Marco closes the curtains and turns the
camera off. He hides in the wall. After three seconds of
pure suspense....

He opens the curtains, and we see THE NEIGHBOR, closing HIS


curtains and shutting off the lights. Marco keeps the
camera on the drawer.

CUT TO:

INT - DINNING ROOM - MORNING - LATER


Marco approaches, all dressed up, with random clothes. He
has a backpack on his back.

He's wearing black shoes, blue pants, a red sweater with a


shirt inside. He's a scholar boy.
He approaches to the DINNING ROOM, where there are two
people: THE FATHER, a fourty something adult, who works as
the town's chief. Always resolving crimes. He wears
glasses.

And, THE BROTHER, a twenty-three abusive man. He smokes,


gets drugged and drinks. He's the older brother. They're
having breakfast. THE BROTHER has a Little mustache he
doesn’t want to shave.

THE FATHER:
(to Marco)
Good morning. Take a seat. I made
your favorite breakfast.

Marco puts the backpack on the back of his seat.

He sits down. He looks at the breakfast: Crispy


bacon with Strawberry sauced waffles.
Marco just sighs and looks at it.
He plays with his food with the fork.
THE FATHER notices his state.

THE FATHER: (CONT'D)


'Re you ok, son???

MARCO:
What??? Yeah, I'm fine. I'm
just....tired.

THE FATHER:
Tired???

MARCO:
I just can't sleep good.

THE BROTHER:
Yeah, he can't. Maybe it's because he
spend the entire night stretching his
wang.

THE FATHER: Alright,


stop it. That's not funny.
Do not mock your brother on the
table, understood???

THE BROTHER:
(sighs)
Yes...

THE FATHER:
Yes what???

THE BROTHER:
(sighs again)
Yes, DAD.

THE FATHER:
Thank you.

The father turns back to Marco, still tired.


THE FATHER: (CONT'D) You
know what, bud??? Let's save it.
(stands up and picks up Marco's
breakfast)
Let's just save it to another time of
the day, when you're hungry.

He puts the breakfast on the kitchen.

He approaches back to the BROTHERS.

THE FATHER: (CONT'D)


I actually forgot to tell you guys. I
got a long day at work so I
probably....

MARCO:
Get home in a late hour???

THE FATHER:
Exactly. The father
picks up his briefcase.

THE FATHER: (CONT'D)


Ok. So I need to go right now. See
you guys later.

THE FATHER leaves the house.

THEN, Marco stands up and grabs his backpack. And


before he goes to the entrance....

THE BROTHER:
Where are you rushing up to??? Marco
closes his eyes and turns to THE BROTHER.

MARCO:
I'm going to school.
THE BROTHER: Why do you
need to go to school??? You know
you can be homeschooled.

MARCO:
You know I never learn in here.
THE BROTHER: Yes, you do.
Don't lie to me, Marco. Like the
way you always do.

MARCO:
(tired of this situation)
Can I go now???

THE BROTHER:
You forgot something???
A beat.

MARCO:
Goodbye, brother???

Whatever.

Marco opens the door and leaves. The


brother watches.

THE BROTHER:
Have a great day!!!
CUT TO:

EXT - THE RED SHACK - CONTINUOUS Out of Marco's house, a


red, second-floor-less red shack.

Marco is walking out THE RED SHACK.

He's walking through his little NEIGHBORHOOD.

We're following him.

He's HOLDING the two edges of his backpack. SMASH TO:

INT - STREETS - LATER

Marco walks on the crowd filled streets of Quisco.

The day is cloudy. He keeps walking.

EXT - SCHOOL - LATER

As MARCO walks to his school, he enters.


We see tons of school kids wearing random clothes like
Marco, entering too.

The school bell rings.

CUT TO:

INT - CLASSROOM - LATER

We're behind Marco. We're inside of a classroom full of kids


Marco's age and some are not of his age. He's sitting on a
chair, with his desk.
The TEACHER, thirty-seven, is sitting on his chair of his
desk.

THE TEACHER:
--others like Lucila Godoy, also
known in this days as Gabriela
Mistral, one of Chile's most
recognized and famous artists. There
are others like her: Pablo Neruda,
Violeta Parra, Nicanol Parra, between
many others I would like you to
investigate. You can Google them.
It's not too late to do it.
(silence)
Speaking of Mrs. Mistral, have you
guys brought your favorite poetry
like I asked you yesterday???

Nobody raises their hands.

THE TEACHER: (CONT'D)


Anyone??? A student, Carlos, Fourteen, raises
his hand.
THE TEACHER: (CONT'D)
Yes, Carlos???

CARLOS:
Can I go to the bathroom???

THE TEACHER:
(Sighs)
Ok. Go ahead. Don't be much there
though.

Carlos goes to the bathroom, exiting the classroom.

THE TEACHER: (CONT'D)


Anyone here instead of Carlos wants
to share poetry with us???

Then, Marco raises his hand.

The TEACHER notices him. Catches him right on time.

THE TEACHER: (CONT'D)


Ah, Marco???? Favorite poetry???
Marco nods.
THE TEACHER: (CONT'D)
Alright. Step up right here.

Marco gets up from his chair. He walks with a piece of paper


with poetry.

Marco steps right in front of his class. He clears his


throat. He looks at the piece of paper.

MARCO:
(reading title)
"Ashes of Desire" by Christy Ann
Martine.
(reading)
On the coldest nights I'll look for
your glow among the burning embers of
your fiery soul. I'll sift---

Then, as Marco continues his poetry, someone makes a noisy


fart noise. We see who did it:
GUILLERMO, fifteen, Marco's bully. His two other bullies,
Franco, thirteen, and Javier, fourteen, laugh with
GUILLERMO.

The boy sitting next to GUILLERMO, his brother, CRISTOBAL,


also fifteen. He doesn't tolerate his brother's stuff.

CRISTOBAL:
Guys, cut it out!!!

THE TEACHER notices. He's angry.

THE TEACHER:
Alright, GUILLERMO, to the
principal's office. Wait me there.
Go.

GUILLERMO:
I didn't even do anything!!!

THE TEACHER:
Now, or you're suspended!!!
GUILLERMO, out of a huge anger inside of him, hits the
table. His sometimes-girlfriend Andrea, also fourteen, hits
him in the arm.

Then, MARCO GIGGLES. IT LOOKS LIKE HE NEVER ACTUALLY DID IT.


HE CAN'T STOP. It’s so sweet watching him giggling.
But, GUILLERMO notices him. He's angry. Marco stops
giggling. He looks worried.

THE TEACHER: (CONT'D)


Now!!!
GUILLERMO stands up roughly and goes to the entrance.
As he closes the door with furious anger....

THE TEACHER: (CONT'D)


Alright, kids. I won't be long.
So.....just wait in silence. I don't
want a frenzy when I come back.

The teacher walks to the entrance.

Marco sits back. He looks worried again.

THE RING BELL RINGS OFF SCREEN.

SMASH TO:

INT - HALLWAY - 1 PM

It's that time of the day when all kids go out of school.
Everyday, they go out at 1 PM.
As we're on a school hallway, we're following MARCO as he's
walking through the hallway.

There are various kids in the hallway. Playing and some


arguing. He's walking to THE BATHROOM. As he opens the
door....

INT – BATHROOM

...we see Marco entering. He closes the door.

He checks on every part of it. It's empty.

MARCO:
(to himself)
Empty. Good. As he walks to a WC room, he locks
himself there.
He pees. He lefts his backpack on the ground.

He just concentrates.

Then, he hears people entering the bathroom.

He looks back.

Then, he looks front.


ANGLE ON THE BACKPACK - As we're slowly approaching to the
backpack, we see a familiar hand grabbing it.
As MARCO realizes, he unlocks himself out of the WC room,
only to see GUILLERMO, JAVIER AND FRANCO playing with
Marco's backpack.

MARCO: (CONT'D)
Give it back!!!

As they're tossing it to each other, Marco tries to grab it,


but he can't. As GUILLERMO has it, Marco grabs it, but does
not let go.
Then, JAVIER holds him off. Marco tries to wildly let go,
but he can't.

JAVIER:
(laughs)

You fuckin weak little shit.

MARCO:
Let go off me you bastard!!! You
Bastards sons of bitches!!!! Let me
go!!! Give me back my backpack!!!

As GUILLERMO is in front of Marco, he shows Marco's


backpack.

GUILLERMO:
Oh, this backpack???

MARCO:
Give it back to me!!!

GUILLERMO:
Aww, so cute. He's trying to get his
backpack back. How fuckin cute is
THAT?!?!?!?

MARCO:

Fucking give it back to me!!!

As son as Marco approaches to his backpack, held by


Guillermo, GUILLERMO punches Marco in the gut so
violently.

He grunts in pain.

As MARCO is thrown in the ground, WEAK, the three bullies


kick and punch on him violently. He can't stand up. As
they keep doing it.... CRISTOBAL enters.
CRISTOBAL:

GUYS!!!!
They all stop.

CRISTOBAL: (CONT'D)
We need to go. Let's GO. They all stand
up.
GUILLERMO:
Come on. Let's leave the little weak
shit in here.

As he's about to leave, he realizes he still has Marco's


backpack.

GUILLERMO: (CONT'D)
Oh, almost forgot.
GUILLERMO violently throws Marco's backpack in Marco's back.
GUILLERMO: (CONT'D)
YOUR BACKPACK!!! Almost forgot. Now,
are you happy??? Let's go guys.

FRANCO:
Fuckin loser.

JAVIER:
Fuckin rat boy.
As THE THREE BULLIES leave, CRISTOBAL stays. He looks at
Marco.

CRISTOBAL:
Can I help you???

MARCO:
(hurt)
I'm fine.

CRISTOBAL:
You sure???

MARCO:
Just go with your brother and leave
me alone, ok??? I have bigger deals
than yours.
CRISTOBAL, worried, leaves, but before doing it, he turns
back to Marco.

Trust me. That's not true. You don't.
He leaves.

Marco is just thrown in there. Hurt.

CUT TO:

INT - CHIEF'S OFFICE - LATER

THE FATHER, on his office, sitting on his chair, his face


looks at the desk. Then, a police officer, SIMON, on his
thirties, enters.
SIMON:
Chief.

THE FATHER:
Simon.

SIMON:
We've got news.

THE FATHER:
Sit.
Simon seats.
THE FATHER: (CONT'D)
Tell me the news.

SIMON:
Remember Louis???

THE FATHER:
The crazy farmer???

SIMON:
Yes. Well, I guess he's not so crazy.

THE FATHER:
What is it now???
SMASH TO:

EXT - LOUIS'S FARM - LATER The father parks the police


car. He gets down with Simon. They approach to...

INT - LOUIS'S FARM Louis, an elderly man,


approaches to them.

THE FATHER:
Where are they, Lou???

LOUIS:
Ov---over here. Come with me.
Simon and THE FATHER follow LOUIS.

INT - FIELD Louis stops and points at


the field....

LOUIS:
There.

...full of DEAD COWS ALL OVER THE PLACE. THE FIELD IS


COVERED WITH SPLATTERED BLOOD

THE FATHER and SIMON are shocked.

THE FATHER:
When did it happen???

LOUIS:
I think on MIDNIGHT.

SIMON:
Well, it's hard not to make a man
SICK.

THE FATHER:
Saw anybody or ANYTHING in here
lately???

LOUIS:
NO, chief. It's weird you know. Who
could have done this??? What kind of
person or THING could do such
atrocity???

THE FATHER:
Well, as we can see, it was not a
person, but if it was a thing, IT HAS
TO BE ONE HELL OF IT.

A beat.

INT - NEIGHBORHOOD - LATER Marco, tired,


walks through his neighborhood.

We hear his neighbors discussing and arguing.

He walks to HIS HOUSE.

He opens the fence of his house.

He enters to

INT - THE RED SHACK - MAIN ROOM - CONTINUOUS


As MARCO enters and closes the door, he walks his room, but
before he can even open the door....

THE BROTHER:
Why'd you took so long??? Marco turns
to THE BROTHER, sitting in a chair.

MARCO:
I couldn't take a bus cause it didn't
came. So I went walking.
(silence)
Happy???

THE BROTHER:
Not enough. But YOU can fix it. Bring
me a beer.

A beat.

MARCO:
(quietly)
No.
The brother realizes. He looks at Marco. The BROTHER is
getting angry.

THE BROTHER:
What'd you just said???
A beat.

MARCO:
(scared)
Nothing.
THE BROTHER: Oh please,
don't be such Mr. Bullshit. Now, did
I just heard NO???

No. The BROTHER stands

up. He approaches slowly to


Marco...
THE BROTHER: I know
when you're lying, Marco.
Don't lie to me now. You know what
happens when you lie.

Marco is getting scared. But he has his mouth closed.

THE BROTHER: (CONT'D)


And you know the consequences when
you say NO.
(silence)
Now, I'm gonna ask you, for the last
time.
(anger intensifies)
Bring me...
(slaps Marco)
A beer....
(slaps Marco again)
Please.... Marco gets scared.
Then, as Marco tries to get out, he's grabbed by THE
BROTHER, who throws Marco to the ground.

The BROTHER holds him and slaps him very hard.

MARCO:
Ahhhhh!!!! Stop!!!!
As THE BROTHER looks at a weeping Marco, THE BROTHER lets
him go and stands up, sighing in disappointment.

He goes to the kitchen and he grabs a beer from the


refrigerator. He walks back to Marco.
THE BROTHER:
Listen, I'm gonna give you ONE MORE
CHANCE. And this'll be the last one.
(SILENCE)
And when I ask YOU to bring ME a
beer, and if YOU say NO......
(SILENCE)
You know the consequences. Ok??? You
get the idea.
(walks away)

Stand up you fuckin crybaby.

ground, grunting. They laugh at him.

The three bullies start checking on his backpack. Notebooks


starts getting thrown off. They found the book THE GODFATHER.

STRENGTH.

Guillermo freezes, he opens his mouth, touches the excact


same place where Marco hit him in the head, and falls to his
knees. He starts screaming and yelling in pain. The two
bullies get on his knees to make him better.
JAVIER:
Holy shit!

FRANCO:
Jesus Christ! Marco, are you fucking crazy?!?

But Marco doesn’t care. He feels vengeful.

He approaches, and HE TAKES THE BOOK FROM GUILLERMO’S HANDS.

FRANCO:

(To Marco)

MARCO:

Franco runs back to a crying Guillermo. The three bullies


stand up and start walking off.

They walk off. Marco watches, he doesn’t care. He puts the


notebooks AND THE BOOK in the backpack. He closes it. He walks
to his house, with a humongous happiness on him.

Marco walks faster to the park, where Tamara is, waiting on


the swingers.

As Marco approaches to her, he sits on the swinger next to

As they leave, we focus on the figure: A PERSON LIGHTING A


CIGARETTE. IT’S THE BROTHER. He watches how Marco leaves the
park with Tamara. He starts smoking. He looks………JEALOUS.

INT – STREET – MINUTES LATER

Marco and Tamara are walking on the street together.

MARCO:
So, there’s this scumbag, the one I told you about. He
tried to steal a book I bought. But, I grabbed a rock and
tossed it right on the back of his head. He was literally

Tamara looks happy, impressed.

MARCO:

Marco realizes she’s watching the wallpaper.

I mean, have you ever been in a reunion with your friends
in a place, laughing and complaining about life?

The Father looks down, to his desk. He is thoughtful. And


worried.

SIMON enters.

THE FATHER:

SIMON:
Dead sheeps. On Park’s barn. Only one survived, but the
rest of them……they turned into barbecue meat.

THE FATHER:

We see Tamara has been listening to it. She’s sitting on

We see an apartment complex. The day is sunny.

Then, we see a cop car parking on.

Marco walks on a hallway. He’s walking front. We’re


following him.

Then, he reads a card he took from his pocket. It’s the


same address Cristobal gave to him.

He stops and looks front. We see a white door. It says 23.

Sitting on the ground, Marco. With Cristobal and

Bastian (18), and Alvaro (18). They’re laughing and they’re
all drinking Coca-Colas.

From far, we see on their window, ---A SHADOWING FIGURE


SITTING ON THE EDGE OF THE WINDOW. THE FIGURE IS NOT AFRAID
OF FALLING. IT JUST SITS THERE. IT LOOKS FAMILIAR.

ON WINDOW ANGLE

From outside, we see Marco sleeping, then, we see a


bloodied hand, putting the hand on the window.

INT – ROOM

As we see Marco sleeping, we hear something peculiar. WE


HEAR THE WINDOW OPENING.

We slowly turn and see THE SAME SHADOWING FIGURE, standing,


looking pale. It just got out from killing a guy. It looks
at Marco.

Then, the figure gets on its knees and looks at Marco,


worried-----IT’S TAMARA, with her mouth covered in red
blazing blood.

She puts her bloodied hand on Marco’s cheek, she slowly


puts it there.

Then---

ANGLE ON MARCO’S EYES: They open.

As Marco wakes up, he gets his head up. HE STILL HAS THE
BLOOD HAND MARK ON HIS CHEEK.

He notices that the window is open. He rushes to it.

EXT – ROOM

From the window, Marco gets his head up, he holds to the
edges. He looks right, then, left. Then, he looks down.

ANGLE: We see Tamara, up on Marco on the window. Marco


can’t even notice her. He sighs and goes back inside.

As he closes the window, Tamara crawls up.

INT – BATHROOM – CONTINUOUS

Marco turns the lights on of the bathroom. As he washes his


face, he notices the blood hand mark on his cheek. He
admires it. He looks at it, with wonder.

INT – NEIGHBORHOOD – MORNING

In Bastian’s car, Alvaro is driving to Marco’s


neighborhood. Marco is in the front seat.

ALVARO:

David, disguised as Jack from The Shining, was putting


makeup on Tamara’s face.

ghost face from SCREAM.

As they run to us, the shot begins to be in normal state,


as we see how the two kids run, screaming, and laughing.

On the street, we see people walking, also disguised as


everything. Every monster you could imagine.

We also see Cristobal, with the Michael Myers mask on,


along with David, and Tamara and Marco.

Tamara looks at Marco. He notices.

Outside of the school, we see the school kids, also


disguised, entering. Cristobal, David, Tamara and Marco

Marco freezes and sees Franco, smiling at him, smiling like

On an empty spot, probably an empty playground, we see

The group admire the place, especially Tamara, she has


never been in a school party before.

attacking him. Guillermo screams. Marco observs the scene
in shock as he stands up. Guillermo is thrown on the ground
by Tamara, who still attacks him. Tamara stratches
Guillermo on the cheek.

Javier runs to them.

JAVIER:

As soon as he says ’’bitch’’, Tamara wildly scratches him


on the hand. Her eyes are wild green.

Marco runs to Tamara.

MARCO:
Alright, stop!!!

As soon as Marco says STOP, Tamara scratches him. He falls


to the ground. Marco stands up and realizes he has a
scratch on his left hand. Marco gasps in confusion, wonder.

Tamara pants and then, she starts getting worried, her


green eyes start to vanish. It’s the same brown eyes she
has. She stands up.

her.

He looks at his scratched hand. He, emotive and worried,


looks how Tamara disappears in the night.

He walks away, in the other direction.

Marco, still wearing his disguise, bandages his scratched


left hand. As he finishes, he looks at himself in the
mirror, then thinks.

Then, he walks away.

Tamara, still on her Halloween costume, looks front. To the


door.

We hear knocking.

MARCO: (O.S)

Marco is still there. The door opens. Tamara opens the

Luckily, she’s wearing a black shirt and an underwear.

LATER: Marco was sleeping comfortable. Tamara grabs his


bandaged left hand. Then, a sleeping Marco grabs her hand.

Then, we’re focusing on Marco’s face, he’s probably having


another nightmare. We can notice it by his eyes, moving
around, even though they’re closed. We see Tamara’s face,
looking at him. Like, being a guardian to him.

As we see Marco’s face, he seems to get calm from his


nightmare.

We start to see Tamara’s real face: An orange-eyed, pale


face, monstrous looking girl. She’s panting. Then, she
closes her eyes.

LATER: Tamara, with her normal face, is sleeping next to


Marco. A sweet moment.

OUTSIDE, on the window, we see THE BROTHER, watching the


scene from the window. He looks suspicious, worried, or
even worse: JEALOUS. We can notice it by his stare.

He walks off.

INT - MARCO’S ROOM - MORNING

Marco wakes up on his bed, on his own room. He groans. He


looks around.

He lays on his bed again, looks up, to the ceiling. He


sighs.

Then, he sees his bandaged left hand. He starts taking the


bandage off. He sees his scratch. Stares at it. Looks at

The Father opens the wrapped package, he starts looking at

shot photo of a security camera, SHOWING US TAMARA

He flips to another photo: WE SEE TAMARA, but BLURRED.

THE FATHER Sighs.

Simon enters.

The Father looks front to THE BROTHER, looking pale,


looking down, probably ashamed, full of guilt.

As soon as The Janitor said Incident, Tamara, growling like

Marco just stares there, watching in horror. Then, he turns

Marco looks down, scared and a bit traumatized. It was all

On two seats, we see Marco and The Father, sitting.

Marco looks front. He looks pale. The Father turns to him,

quiet graveyard.

ones. It’s like The Day of the Dead (Dia De Muertos).

Then, he stops and goes to a grave. He stands in front of

it. Looks like a thunder just impacted the tree.

The Father sighs. This is not his day. Then, he grabs from
the ground a leaf, impacted by the thunder, it has smoke
coming out of it.

As he grabs it, he stands up. Then, we see the same


shadowing figure, with the metal pole on his hand. The door
is open.

The shadowing figure runs to The Father, and as soon as The


Father turns, the shadowing figure hits him with the pole

here…But…He wasn’t just an ordinary dad……

MARCO:
Bad??

TAMARA:
Worse. On nights, he used to come home, telling how many
women he would like to abuse.

FLASHBACK.

INT – TAMARA’S HOUSE – MONTHS AGO

Tamara’s dad is about to hit Tamara, who’s crying, sitting


on the ground.

INT – MAIN ROOM

TAMARA:
And he always said how much he hated me. He……
(Getting teary)
He always came home from the bar……and he always hurted me,
punched me. He made me scars.

She turns and gets her shirt up, revealing on her nude
back, a scar. Marco is shocked about it.

MARCO:
(Shocked)
Jesus.

He slowly approaches to the scar, and as he starts touching


it, Tamara starts grunting in pain. Marco realizes, and
with worry and fear, backs off.

MARCO:
Sorry.

Tamara lets go of her shirt, looks back at Marco.

TAMARA:
And that night, when you arrived……

FLASHBACK.

We’re revisiting the same scene from the beginning. Marco


and his family moving to The Red Shack. On the outide of
the house, we see a shadowing figure: That’s HER!!!
INT – TAMARA’S HOUSE – FLASHBACK

Tamara’s dad was looking at her, looking at the window.

He approaches drunk to her.

TAMARA: (V.O)
Also, because of him I couldn’t get out of the house. I
couldn’t go to school.

Tamara’s dad starts grabbing her arm, she turns scared and
tries to escape from him, but he holds her and throws her
to the ground. He’s ready to rape her. She starts
screaming.

INT – MAIN ROOM

(Tears intensifying)
In that night, he tried to……He tried to……

FLASHBACK.

INT – TAMARA’S HOUSE

As Tamara’s dad holds her violently and strongly, she bites


one of his fingers, making him scream. Then, she starts
attacking her dad……the way she attacks her victims……

Tamara’s dad is lying on the ground. He’s screaming as


Tamara starts feeding on him.

TAMARA: (V.O)
I did what I had to do……There was no other choice……

END OF FLASHBACK.

BACK TO SCENE.

INT – MAIN ROOM

Tamara’s tears start intensifying.

Marco approaches and starts hugging her. She keeps crying.

MARCO:
It’s ok. It’s fine.

TAMARA:

Tamara shakes her head, again NO.

MARCO:
Ok, another day??

Again. She does the same.

MARCO:
(Convinced)

TAMARA:

MARCO:

TAMARA:
This town, they’re all searching for me.

MARCO:

Marco is worried. He’s heartbroken. He looks down.

Marco then looks back at Tamara, convinced, he understands

MARCO:

Tamara is heartbroken. Then, sniffs, and accepts what he’s


saying.

TAMARA:

Tamara turns and opens the door.

MARCO:

He sits on the ground, his head facing the door. He sighs.

EXT – TAMARA’S HOUSE

Inaudible. We hear a solemn, beautiful piece of music.

We see Marco knocking the door of Tamara’s house, as she


yells her name. But no answer. He then walks through the
outside of the house and sees a window open.

INT – ROOM

Marco enters through that window, and realizes he’s on


Tamara’s room. He sees on the ground, something that
devastates him.

We turn to the ground and see thrown pages on the ground.

Marco gets on her knees and picks them up and sees them:
THE PAGES ARE THE POETRY MARCO SENDED TO HER.

He flips through page, through page, through page, and


comes to the final page: The first poetry he wrote:
"Ashes of Desire" by Christy Ann Martine.

Marco realizes and stands up.

Marco is sitting on the ground, worried and teary. The

Marco??? Hey.

Marco dries his tears. The Brother approaches, but we don’t


see his face. He has a plate of yogurt with cereal.

THE BROTHER:
I thought we were changing plans today and have dessert
before dinner.

Marco looks at The Brother: He’s shaved. Remember when The


Brother had this small mustache??? Well, he shaved.

THE BROTHER:
Would you like yogurt with cereal??

Marco still looks at him.

THE BROTHER:
Alright, then, I’ll put it here.
(Puts the plate on a furniture close to Marco)
So it won’t be that messy.

The Brother looks at Marco.

The Brother is making dinner. Marco is walking, he’s


wearing his red sweater.

Marco walks to the entrance. As soon as he’s about to open


the door……

THE BROTHER:
Where are you going??

Marco turns to The Brother, who is standing right behind


him, he’s not on the kitchen.

MARCO:
Outside.

THE BROTHER:
To the park to see that girl again??

MARCO:

Marco opens the door, The Brother shuts it with his hand,

MARCO:

you, I don’t have friends, and you know what??? They’re my
real family more than you!!!

The Brother’s anger intensifies.

THE BROTHER:
Why don’t you just close the door and come to dinner??

MARCO:
(Softly)

Then, Marco punches the shit out of The Brother.

The Brother lets go, and Marco opens the door. Then, The
Brother grabs Marco and starts to strangle him, dragging
him back inside. The Brother closes and locks the door,
making Marco’s way out impossible. Marco tries savagely to
get out, but he can’t. The Brother’s strength is stronger
than Marco’s.

Marco starts coughing, and getting red.

THE BROTHER:
You’re not going anywhere. Now, I’m gonna ask you, for the
last time……

Marco is about to grab a glass beer bottle on a furniture.

THE BROTHER:
Why don’t you just come to dinner???

MARCO:
(Strangled)
No……

THE BROTHER:
Huh?!?!?

MARCO:

Marco grabs the glass beer bottle, and smashes it right on


The Brother’s head. He yells as he lets Marco go.

Marco locks the door. He runs quickly to the Window, but it


can't get open.

MARCO:

As he tries to open it, he can't. Then, as he tries harder

BAM!!! Marco turns, frightened, to the door, where we hear


banging.

EXT. MARCO'S ROOM.

We see The BROTHER, already turned into a psychopath, his


head with blood coming out of it. He's hitting the door
with a hammer.

THE BROTHER:
C'mon, lil brotha!!!

BAM!!!

THE BROTHER:
We can fix this situation like I promised.

INT. MARCO'S ROOM.

As MARCO is frightened, and he doesn't know what to do, he


tries to exit the house on the window, but it's still
locked.

MARCO:
COME ON!!! I. Fucking. Hate. You...

BAM!!! Another hit of a Hammer.

As MARCO looks frightened to the door, he gets from his


drawer, a KITCHEN KNIFE.

He runs to the entrance. Ready. To. Attack. Or. Die.

stronger.

Marco is beyond scared. As he looks at the Window, and


LOOKS to his door, he runs to the window.

THE BROTHER finally breaks the door with his hammer.

He's smiling and laughing like a psychopathic maniac.

He unlocks the door from the inside of the room.

As he enters, he sees the window is open.

He still smiles.

He's so creepy-LOOKING.

As he approaches slowly...

THE BROTHER:
Oh, Romeo, Romeo, where the hell did you went to??? You
went to see Juliet??? You disgraced our family's bond??? MY
bond???

...we turn and see MARCO IS HIDING DOWN THE BED, MOUTH
COVERED. HE'S WATCHING HIS BROTHER SLOWLY WALKING TO THE
WINDOW. WHAT A SMART TRAP.
THE BROTHER: (CONT'D)
Oh, Romeo, Romeo, come out, come out wherever you
aaaaare....

Then, as THE BROTHER looks at the Window and sees nothing,


he turns, and MARCO HITS HIM WITH A BROKEN FURNITUE PIECE.
The Brother falls to the groud. Marco runs to the entrance,
but The Brother grabs his leg, making Marco to slip and
fall to the ground.

THE BROTHER:
Please……Stay with me……Do not go to her!!! I beg you!!!
Please!!!

MARCO:
Let me go!!!

Marco finally runs out of the house. Then, he hears noises


from inside. He runs away.

INT – FOREST

ANGLE AND FOCUS ON A BEER CAN – It blows up!!!

Then, we see Guillermo, with his father’s gun on his hand.


He shot the can. He’s with Javier and Franco, chilling.

JAVIER:
Yeah!!!

FRANCO:
That’s what I’m fucking talking about!!!

INT – OTHER PLACE OF FOREST

Marco doesn’t stop running. He stops and pants, looking at


the ground.

INT – FOREST

The three bullies keep laughing.

Then, Guillermo hears something.

They stop laughing.

Marco starts running to another direction. The three


bullies start chasing him. Javier goes on another
direction.

INT – LITTLE CLIFF

Close to a little cliff, we see Marco running, as Franco


and Guillermo keep chasing him. There’s a fallen tree in
which people can sit.

FRANCO:
Ah!! My leg!!!

GUILLERMO:
Just keep running!!! Do not fucking stop!!!

But they keep running to him. Javier appears from the


front.

Marco stops.

MARCO:
Ah, shit!!!

As Marco turns, Guillermo, Franco, and also Javier grab


him.

MARCO:

Marco brutally enters into the water. He swims to the


surface.

Marco gets on the surface, and as he swims to an edge and


is about to stand up, Guillermo runs to him and hits him,
making him to fall to the water. Guillermo grabs him by the
hair, and puts his legs on his stomach.

GUILLERMO:
Listen here. I wanted to do this the hard way. I guess
we’ll do this the easy way. I’ll just simply do this. We’re
gonna verify how many time you get your head underwater. If
you win, we’ll let you go. If you lose, you’ll swim with
the fishes and piranhas.
(Silence)
Well Rattie Boy, road for the cheese ends now.

Guillermo violently puts Marco’s head underwater.

UNDERWATER.
Marco is being forced, as he tries to let go. But he can’t.
He’s trapped. He ran onto a trap. He ran from his enemy,
and comes face-to-face with an even worse enemy.

SURFACE.

Guillermo looks intensified. His anger is beyond


intensified.

Javier just watches, and Franco sits on the fallen tree,


and lights up a cigar.

UNDERWATER.

Marco is still forced. He’s starting to lose his strength.

Both Franco and Javier are stunned because of his words.


They are on silence. Guillermo turns to Marco.

Marco is about to pass out. Not die. Pass out. He starts


closing his eyes.

SURFACE.

Guillermo is starting to get shocked. He checks Marco’s


pulse. He’s not reacting. He gets shocked.

GUILLERMO:

He backs away, scared, and frightened.

GUILLERMO:

realizes and looks at them. He wonders and looks up. Its
tree leafs, with blood on them. It’s what’s causing the
blood drops.

Franco looks away and looks at someone. He’s surprised.

UNDERWATER.

Marco’s body keeps falling. Then, on the surface, we and he


hears something unexpected. We hear screaming, shouting and
yelling. We see gunshots being fired. Marco already landed
on the deep. He starts to look up.

ON MARCO’S VIEW.

About to pass out, we start to blink and fall asleep.

UNDERWATER.

Falling on the water, we see a ripped off arm. The arm is


holding a gun. It’s falling to the deep, close to Marco.

We hear attacks and the three bullies screaming, and we


also see clouds of billowing red blazing blood falling to
the deep.

ON MARCO’S VIEW.

We’re about to pass out as we see the clouds of red blazing


billowing blood to fall on the deep.

Then, we see a shadowing person, who jumped to the little


cliff. He’s swimming to Marco.

Then, we fade to the same place, but we see things


differently:

We are being dragged up. As we turn down, we see the blood


going down.

We are dragged up, to the

SURFACE.

And we’re being dragged to the edge of the little cliff. It


started raining.

We see Marco, put on an edge, to rest. Then, he gets down,


on his knees and his hands pressing the ground. He then
starts coughing strongly. He coughs water.

He turns and sees Guillermo approaching to him, he’s


worried. He’s the one who rescued Marco.

GUILLERMO:
Are you ok???

Guillermo gets on his knees.

GUILLERMO:
Good, you’re ok. Let me help you.

Marco realizes. Then……

MARCO:
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

He hits Guillermo with a stone he grabbed when he was


pressing the ground. Guillermo falls to the ground. Marco
approaches to him. He starts punching Guillermo with his
fists on his face.

MARCO:
I’LL FUCKING KILL YOU!!! KILL YOU!!!!!

GUILLERMO:

Marco then stops.

GUILLERMO:

A beat to Marco. After one week, she’s finally back to him.


He wonders and backs away. He has turned into a killer,
poisoned with revenge.

GUILLERMO:
Please, I’m sorry. For everything I did, I’m sorry.

Marco realizes. He stands up.

Then, he grabs a stone, and gets down to Guillermo.

MARCO:
Promise me that you won’t chase me and bully me anymore.
Say it.

Guillermo is traumatized. Why does he want to forgive this


fake poor soul??

Marco hits the ground with the stone, close to Guillermo,


just to scare him out.

He grabs the stone, and aims it at Guillermo, ready to


attack if he doesn’t answer correctly.

MARCO:
Say it!!!

GUILLERMO:
(Softly; traumatized)
I promise……

MARCO:
Huh?!?!?

GUILLERMO:

Guillermo stands up and runs away.

Then, Guillermo flips and falls to the ground. Then, Tamara


approaches: She’s now transforming into the monster.

She has bullet wounds, with blood coming off. She touches
the wound and as she aparts the hand, not only is the wound
cured, but she has the bullets on her hand.

Guillermo stands up, impressed.

GUILLERMO:
Shit…You can’t die…

Then, Tamara slaps him, as Guillermo turns, we see claw


marks, being formed on his neck. She scratched his neck.
Blood starts coming off, as Guillermo touches it. As he
walks back, he slips and he falls to the little cliff. To
the deep.

Marco then, feels weird and falls to the ground.

He looks up, rain falling to his face.

Then, he sees a shadowing figure, approaching to him,


looking at him. It stops approaching and comes face to face
with it.

MARCO:
Wait……Wait……

Then, as the shadowing figure is about to do something……

WE:

CUT TO:

UNDERWATER.

We see Guillermo, with blood floating up to the surface,


coming out of his neck wound, falling slowly to the deep.

only because of the injury, he dies of drowning.

He falls slowly to the dark deep.

Marco wakes up, like waking up from a nightmare. He wakes


up in a bed. He looks around. This is not his house.
He is wearing his grey long shirt. About to be dawn.

We discover it’s

TAMARA’S ROOM

He gets up.

INT – TAMARA’S HOUSE

Marco starts walking around, and he sees Tamara, watching


on a window, checking if someone is not spying them.

She turns to Marco. She doesn’t look happy. Marco is ready


to explain.

MARCO:
Listen, I……

TAMARA:
It’s ok. You don’t have to explain yourself.

She looks upset, probably of what happened between them a


week ago. Their argument.

MARCO:
Please, I just want to say……

TAMARA:
Look, I know what you’re gonna say. I know. I’m the one
that’s supposed to say sorry. I shouldn’t say that to you.

They keep embracing each other.

INT – NEIGHBORHOOD – DAWN

We go back and see a pale early bird person: It’s The


Brother, standing straight, looking at Tamara’s house. The
Brother has his blood cleaned up. He still has the hammer
on his hand.

INT – TAMARA’S ROOM – CONTINUOUS

Tamara sleeps on the left side. She slowly wakes up and


spots a note on the other side of the bed, she grabs it and
looks at it. It has a message on it:

Went to the store to buy stuff. I also went to buy meat.


Just so you know – Marco

She smiles.

Then, we hear a knock on the main door. She wonders and


gets up.

INT – MAIN ROOM

She walks to the main door, and through the door hole, she
gets scared: Through the door hole we see The Brother,
knocking on the door.

She locks the door.

EXT – TAMARA’S HOUSE

The Brother realizes and backs away, then runs to the door

……kicks it harder and stronger. Tamara gasps and gets


scared. She runs somewhere to hide.
Then, The Brother opens the door with dozens of kicks.

He slowly approaches to the house, and starts walking,


searching for Marco.

INT – ROOM

He still walks, in search of Marco. No answer. Then, he


hears something behind him. He quickly turns. He walks
behind him.

INT – OTHER ROOM

He still walks. He’s approaching to Tamara’s room. He


approaches slowly. Then, stops, a beat to him. Then,
continues walking slowly.

As he approaches to the door, he tries to open it. But it’s


locked. He aparts his hand from the doorknob.

Then, he starts kicking the door with his leg. Dozens, and
dozens, and dozens of time, until finally……

INT – TAMARA’S ROOM

Tamara is hidden there, scared, on her knees. She can see


that The Brother is searching for both of them.

Then, The Brother opens the closet’s door. Tamara gasps in


fear.

The Brother smiles like a psychopath.

THE BROTHER:
Well well well. Look who we have here. Hey there girl, you
alone?? Is your Romeo home??

Tamara gasps, and exits the Closet.

INT – ROOM

As Tamara tries to exit the closet, The Brother, without


mercy, holds her strongly. He drops her to the ground,
ready to rape and kill her. He holds her there. The Brother
puts her hand on her face.

THE BROTHER:
Awww, you try to strike back. Aren’t you a pretty thing---?

As he says thing, Tamara bites one of The Brother’s fingers


of the left hand. The Brother screams in pain and in
ghoulish horror.

Tamara kicks The Brother, to escape. The Brother falls to


the ground.

Then, Tamara, on her knees and hands pressing the ground,


spits The Brother’s ripped off finger. She runs somewhere
else. The Brother looks at her go.

THE BROTHER:
OH, YOU HORRIBLE FUCKING BRAT!!!!

INT – ROOM

As Tamara tries to run to the entrance, she runs through a


room, scared, with panic, frightened, all of that at the
same time.

INT – MAIN ROOM

As she’s about to run to the entrance, The Brother runs to


her and grabs her, making her fall to the ground. He holds
her there. She can’t strike back. He’s tronger than her.

THE BROTHER:
I told you. I told you to stay away from my little brother.
I did’t wanted to do this the bad way.
(Aiming hammer)
Now……Looks like we’re gonna have to do it the easy way
then.

Tamara is scared. She tries to exit, but she can’t.

The Brother is ready to kill her.

THE BROTHER:
Don’t worry. It won’t hurt much. And as soon as I’m done
with you, I’m gonna kill your precious Romeo. Got it??
Romeo and Juliet, sharing the same grave.

TAMARA:
(Scared)
No……NO!!!

As The Brother is ready to attack……

Then, BAM!!! Someone hit The Brother on the head. The


Brother freezes and touches his ear: It’s bleeding. Then,
another hit, on his back. The Brother falls to the ground,
then, we see who did it: Marco, holding the same pole that
killed father.

The Brother looks at Marco, finally defending himself,


entering the room. Tamara backs away.

As The Brother tries to stand up, Marco hits him strongly


on the leg. Then, the other. The Brother exclaims in pain.

But Marco is doing the same thing The Brother did to The
Father.

The Brother drags his broken body and rests on a wall.

Marco slowly approaches, preparing to kill him. Tamara


stands up and watches the scene.

The Brother then laughs. Probably his last laugh.

THE BROTHER:
(Hurt)
Who do you think you are, huh Marco?? You think you’re
special?? Huh?? You really think that killing me, kicking
me to death is gonna change the world as you know it??
Well, lemme tell you something: It won’t work.
(Beat)
It won’t bring him back.

Marco stops and freezes for a second.

THE BROTHER:
I’ll never forget the screams he did. He begged for his
life, you know. He begged to be saved.

Marco realizes: THE BROTHER IS THE FATHER’S CAUSE OF HIS


DISSAPEARANCE. HE’S THE CAUSE OF HIS DEATH.

Marco gets worried.

The Brother realizes and laughs.

THE BROTHER:
(Laughing)
Oh, you didn’t knew it right?? You’re holding the same
thing that killed him.

The Brother laughs uncontrollably.

As Marco is ready to attack, The Brother falls to the


ground.

Marco freezes. Then, The Brother’s forehead starts


bleeding. Blood falls everywhere in his head: Eyes, nose,

mouth, ears. He’s broken. Then, he says his last words, his
final words……

THE BROTHER:
Family……

Then, he opens his mouth and doesn’t move anymore. Marco


approaches and takes his pulse. It’s not beating.

That’s it everybody. Mercy killing. The Brother: Is dead.

Marco backs away, and drops the pole.

Then, he approaches to Tamara and hugs her.

They embrace.

MARCO:
It’s over. It’s over. It’s ok. I’m here. I’m here.

Tamara starts crying.

TAMARA:
He tried to……He tried to……

They still embrace. Marco calms her down.

MARCO:
I know, I know. It’s ok. It’s over. I got you now. I got
you.

TAMARA:
(Crying)
Marco……

MARCO:
It’s ok. It’s fine. It’s over. He is not alive, not
anymore.

They separate and look at each other. Inaudible. A swelling


music is sounding. Marco is talking to her. She nods.

Both exit the house, then, we get down and see an angle of
the pole, with blood splattered on it.

CUT TO:

INT – BACKYARD – THE RED SHACK – MINUTES LATER

Marco walks on the backyard. There’s no grass. Just yellow


grass. You know, dryed grass. Anyway……

He’s walking through the backyard and then notices


something unsettling. Something unexpected.

He approaches to it: It’s a black jacket example, buried


underground.

He gets on his knees and drags the black jacket example:


IT’S A BLACK JACKET.

It looks familiar to him. Then, checks the owner of it:

BOB MARQUEZ, CHIEF


Marco realizes. Then, he gets up. He’s devastated because
of the death of his father.

Tamara approaches from behind. Then, he starts crying.


Tamara starts comforting him, and he turns and embraces
her. They’re both embracing each other.

A swelling music is sounding.

It’s over. It’s finally over. The final battle. The selfish
and overpreotective big brother is finally dead. Forever,
we might think it so.

Finally, and for the first time ever, Marco is free. He’s
finally released.

He found a way out. By losing his family, he found a way


out.

THE NIGHT

We see the stars shining, and we go down and see we’re


outside of a Bus Station.

EXT – BUS STATION

Waiting in a line to the bus to exit the town, there’s


Marco and Tamara, together. They’re leaving.

Then, Marco sees on the street, Cristobal. They share


stares. They nod to each other. Cristobal leaves without
saying anything.

Then, the line start moving.

INT – BUS

We move slowly as we see people entering the bus. Then, we


turn and see on the left side, Marco and Tamara, sitting.
Marco is looking at the window, while Tamara is resting her
head on his shoulder.

Then, next thing we hear is the thing Marco and Tamara said
when they were sleeping together in her bed.

MARCO: (O.S)
But, where are we going?

TAMARA: (O.S)
I don’t know. Probably to a far place, where they can’t
find us.

MARCO: (O.S)
Only the two of us?

TAMARA: (O.S)
Only the two of us.

Then, Tamara starts sleeping. Marco closes his eyes.


There’s a smile on his face. He never felt to free and
alive.

EXT – BUS STATION

And the bus starts. It starts leaving the town.

MARCO: (V.O)
If I tell you about it, the love story between the boy and
the monster, how would you react?? What would you say??
What would you think about it?? Those are the questions I
wonder every night.

INT – STREET

The bus starts driving on the town. To the exit.

MARCO: (V.O)
The story reminds me of a verse, from a tale, of love and
death. One I read a long time ago. One my mom told me
before sleep. The verse says: "Whisper in the ear: weary
boy, you’ll journey may come to an end, if you find our
inner monsters very well’’.

EXT – TOWN

We see it. We finally see it. The ’’You’re leaving Quisco’’


sign, as we turn and see the bus go away from the town.

Then………Silence………

We see titles cards in red:

THAT SAME NIGHT, THE POLICE FOUND THE BODY OF THE BROTHER
WHEN A NEIGHBOR, WALKING BY, LOOKED AT THE DOOR BROKEN, AND
NOTICED A DISGUSTING SMELL

THE TOWN’S SLAUGHTERING TIME ENDED, AND THE TOWN RETURNED


TO FREEDOM AFTER THE SERIES OF DEATHS WAS OVER

We see the bus, driving through a road. It’a about to get


dawn. Then, we see that everything is fading into color.
It’s not black and white anymore. It’s color. Everything.

Another title card:

MEANWHILE, MARCO AND TAMARA’S WHEREABOUTS ARE, AND STILL


REMAIN UNKNOWN

Then, we hear a suspenseful music.

Then………WE………

SMASH TO BLACK:

FADE TO RED:

On the end credits, we hear the film’s main theme. A


beautiful slow violin solo that fits on the credits. After
the theme, we hear in a vinyl player, the song ’’Strangers
in the Night by Frank Sinatra’’.
