Nowadays, anywhere we go we can see a lot of people smoking with no limit. Even in
the restricted area, they keep on smoking without being concern to surrounding. It is not
weird if we see some women smoking without any shame. In a cigarette contained some
chemical substances which can effects the smokers. Some smokers say that when they are
smoking it will give them enjoyment. Smoking has become their bad habit and it is hard for
them to quit even though smoking has a lot of effect but they are still smoking. Thus, there
are several effects of smoking such as it will increase the risk of heart disease, it may cause
Firstly, one of the effects is increase the risk of heart disease due to higher blood
pressure and heart rate. The average increase in systolic blood pressure was twice the
increase in non-smokers (Cold Weather Raises Heart Risk for Smokers, 2001). Smoking can
destroy the arteries to the brain and heart may result in increasing of stroke and heart attack
(British Medical Journal, 1996). According to Let’s Live magazine, 1996, cholesterol and
blood pressure levels may increase due to cigarette smoke. Cigarette smoking also greatly
increases the chance of cardiovascular disease which in fact women who are smoking will die
from heart disease. Thus, to reduce the risk of heart disease we should stop smoking.
Secondly, smoking also may cause depression by inhaling dangerous chemical that
contained in the cigarette (Kim Evans, 2010). Other than that, cause of depression is cigarette
smoke has lead and cadmium. Lead can slowly damage the brain and nervous system. It also
can reduce our IQ and make us less intelligent. Besides that, cadmium can cause disease in
the liver and kidney. Next, cigarettes smoke also contains radioactive polonium. Lead and
polonium in cigarette is from phosphate fertilizers that the tobacco industry regular uses.
In according to the EPA lead and polonium pass into the lungs of smokers which they
may accumulate to highest concentrations. These are the handful of the chemical that go
through the body so that a few people realize that the regular inhalation of such toxic
chemical can make a person feel depressed. This chemical substance will accumulated in our
body after a few years. How can this toxic make us depressed? Here is the answer. When we
get sick we will feel depressed because of the bacteria that attack our body system. When we
smoke, the effect of this substance gives us depression mood. Hence, by stop smoking we can
avoid depression.
Thirdly, increasing risk for bladder cancer is one of effect of smoking (Frank
Mangano, 2009).As we know most cigarettes contained nicotine and tar that effect us when
we are smoking. Researcher know that the increase in bladder cancer cases is likely to how
smokers are smoking cigarettes, where they are inhaling deeper and more frequently to
compensate for the decreasing of nicotine content. In fact , the risk for bladder cancer has
increased five times over since 1990s and this has done nothing to decrease that risk even
many cigarettes makers have decreased amount of tar and nicotine in their cigarettes.
However, smoking also has benefits such as it will relax our breathing. As we know
smoking has a connection with our breathing. That is why it will effects our lung and heart.
Then, the way you breathe when you smoke your body relax and calm down. Doctors
recommend patients to practice a sort of breathing for people who have panic attacks or stress
problems (Devon Lantry, 2009).Sometimes the smokers always leave the house and office to
smoke outside which help them deal with the stress. Anyway this a simple act that can really
help us deal with the stress. Inhaling cigarette smoke will slow our heart rate and relieve
cancer, it may cause depression and increase risk of heart disease. It is not too late to stop
smoking because it will make your life healthier. I hope everyone must cooperate with each
