JOB DESCRIPTION

TEACHER OF ENGLISH

The postholder will be responsible to the Subject Leader for


English for teaching of English across both age and ability
range.

Principal Responsibilities

• To plan their teaching to achieve progression in students learning;

• To set high expectations for students’ behaviour, establishing and


maintaining a good standard of discipline through well focused
teaching and through positive and productive relationships;

• To use teaching methods including ICT which sustain the


momentum of students’ work and keep all students engaged;

• To make effective use of assessment information.

• To establish and maintain a purposeful working atmosphere;

• To mark and monitor students’ classwork and homework,


providing constructive oral and written feedback and setting
appropriate targets for students’ progress. Keep accurate
records;

• To contribute to the development of the school and department


improvement plans;

• To be familiar with the Code of Practice on the identification and


assessment of Special Educational Needs and as part of their
responsibilities implement and keep records on Individual
Education Plans for students as required (with guidance if
necessary);-

• To evaluate their own teaching critically and use this to improve


their effectiveness;

• To encourage extra curricular activities and contribute to the


ethos of the school;

• To attend meetings, parents’ evenings as required;

• To carry out the role and responsibilities of a form tutor;

• To co-operate with the Headteacher in the fulfilment of the


objectives of the School’s Health and Safety policies;

• To undertake any reasonable duty at the request and discretion of


the Headteacher.
