Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

The PowerPoint has audio clips attached to appeal to auditory learners and the PowerPoint contains pictures
on every slide to appeal to visual learners. I will modify or adjust the lesson or materials based on each
students individual needs.
Lesson idea implementation:
Introduce the lesson by explaining that animals take care of their babies just like parents or guardians take
care of their children. Read the book Animal Babies by Eric Carle. Encourage the students to imitate the
sounds that the animals on each page make. Explain to students that baby animals have different names then
mature or grown up animals.
Open the Baby Match PowerPoint on the Smart Board. Read through the PowerPoint or play the video of the
PowerPoint with the voice recording. After the PowerPoint, ask the students what other animals they know
and what their babies are called. This lesson will take around 20 minutes. Student learning will be assessed
through the class discussions and through questioning.
Reflective Practice:
I could post the PowerPoint on my class blog so that English language learners can access it at home to hear
and read English to review. Additionally, doing this would benefit students who are absent from school. To
further extend this lesson, I would like to include a hands on or tactile aspect to the lesson. If presented with
the opportunity, it would be beneficial to take the students to a zoo or a place that has mom and baby
animals so the students can experience this standard in person. If this option is not realistic, there are many
live online animal cams where we could watch an actual mother animal and her baby interact. I believe
adding this aspect would make the standard more relatable and more enjoyable for the students.
