Activity This app is the perfect source to help students
develop their reading, writing, and thinking skills.
Students are able to choose from a variety of
diagrams, such as story maps, outlines, webs, and
Venn diagrams to organize and comprehend
information prior to writing.
Students can use this app to organize topics before
writing, develop vocabulary, sort information, and
create visual diagrams which can be transferred into
written text, perfect for the prewriting stage of the
writing process.
Teachers can assign either class work or homework
(depending on the available technology in the
school) that requires students to conduct research
on a topic of his or her choice. As the students do
their research, this app makes it easy for them to
take notes and convert those notes into an
organized, useful web, diagram, map, or chart.
Students can share their work with their teachers a
number of ways, such as email, Google Drive, and
the iCloud Drive. This feature gives teachers a way to
view the student's work they have completed as

homework and allows more time in class to discuss
anything that needs to be addressed on the
diagrams.

Nearpod is more directed towards the teacher; however, it is also
very beneficial to the students. This app allows teachers to import
lessons, quizzes, short answer questions, polls, diagrams, and
more. There are also a number of free lesson plans that can be
downloaded and easily customized to fit into the curriculum.
In this activity, the teacher will upload an introduction course on
the basics of fictional texts, nonfiction narratives, and poetry.
Some of the information included on the presentation will be
vocabulary terms, examples of each type of literature, practice
pieces for students to depict the different types of literature, and a
piece of poetry where students have to determine the main idea,
the rhyme scheme, and the author's point of view. Once the
students complete the lesson, there will be a few assessment
questions to test how well they understood the information. These
assessments will include a vocabulary section where students have
to match the correct word and definition, a short quiz on the three
different types of literature, and a short answer section where
students can pick a type of poetry and write their own poem. The
teacher will be able to evaluate the progress of each student by
generating a report of how well each student did on the various
examples, activities, and assessments.
