Summary Of The Film

The movie is about three girls from Columbia who
don’t have much money. They decide to become drug
mules and carry drugs to America. María, the main
character takes on the job to support her family
financially. She is struggling through life and recently
broke up with her boyfriend, Juan. She meets this guy
who tells her he has a good job opportunity for her. She
is instructed to swallow around 30 pellets of drugs and
she knows she is pregnant. María has never done this
before and is nervous so Lucy, one of the other girls
helps her practice with grapes. María and the other
girls, Blanca and Lucy travel to America to deliver the
drugs. On the flight, Lucy feels really sick.
María was forced to swallow some of the pellets again as
they came out on the flight. When they land they are
brought to a hotel room. They give the drugs to the
men. During the night, Lucy is really sick and there is
blood everywhere. The men take the drugs out of her
and dump her body. María and Blanca flee and go and
ask Lucy’s sister, Carla could they stay with her. She
agrees but doesn’t know her sister is dead. Carla helps
them look for a job and María gets a check up on her
baby. They finally get their money off the men for the
job. Carla is eventually told by her friend/ the travel
agent that Lucy is dead and she kicks María and Blanca
out. Blanca goes back to Columbia and María decides to
stay in America and raise her baby.

Personal Reflection On The Film
I Liked the film because I thought it had a very unique
and captivating storyline. I thought the acting in it was
very believable and a lot of emotion went into making it
this way. It showed a lot struggles teenagers go through
just to support their families in Columbia. I learned that
many Columbian women become drug mules for
money. I also learned that if you get caught while doing
this you can get into serious trouble by the police. My
favourite scene was when Franklin offered Maria a job. I
liked it as it showed the beginning of María’s journey. I
think the message in this scene is to be aware that
people look innocent from the outside but be careful
who you are getting yourself involved with. I would've
liked there to be more scenes with Lucy because she was
my favourite character. I liked her the most because she
was genuine and kind and helped Maria get through the
whole process easier.
