Resident Profile
News Anke Vanderdrift
I moved to Sun City Festival 11 years ago from Florida where I had
been for 18 years and worked there as a case manager and Rehab
instructor for the Lighthouse for the Blind .
I worked with the elderly who had lost their vision and I initiated a
music appreciation class .
I lived in New England before that for many years
I was married and was divorced when I was diagnosed with mus-
cular dystrophy
Fortunately I’m doing quite well and I am able to play golf three
days a week and I just recently started working in the Grille as a
hostess which I’m enjoying I’m meeting a lot of new people who
are just moving in as well as some old friends
When I first came here I hosted a golf tournament for four years to
benefit the MDA which thanks to an excellent committee and a lot
of moral and physical support from the community in general and
from many of my friends in particular was quite successful and we were able to donate more than $50,000
over the four years,
We also included the local schoolchildren to make signs for the sponsors and they came through with flying
colors.
This love summer I took a 5000 mile road trip all the way to the Canadian Rockies by myself I visit with some
friends and I went to the Calgary Stampede after which some friends were kind enough to take me in their
motorhome through the Canadian Rockies
I saw a lot had beautiful weather love the scenery but I was also very happy to get back home
This is a wonderful Community I have met many great people from all different walks of life I love hearing
their stories and how they got here I am enjoying my retirement to the fullest and I love living here.
