PRESS RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE Release

St. Augustine Hosts Junior Golfers from 24 Countries for

the Eighth Year

St. Augustine, Fla. – The top junior golfers in the world will return

to St. Augustine Dec. 28 – 30 for the 2017 American Junior golf tournament a World Junior Golf

Series Event. The three-day event will be held at the prestigious Slammer and Squire Course in

World Golf Village. This is the eighth year that the American Junior has hosted junior golfers

from around the world.

This year’s tournament will feature close to 60 boy and girl golfers from the age of 12 –

19 representing 24 countries, including five players from Myanmar: Min Than Lwin Aung,

Kaung Myat Kyaw, Hein Sithu, Phyo Zan and Phu Pwint Yati Khine. Sithu placed second at the

tournament last year and Khine placed fourth. They are both hoping to use the experience they

gained last year to take home the prize this year.

The event in past years, has seen many competitors use the tournament to gain exposure

for their golfing abilities and advance to either college or professional play. Local players for the

area will be taking advantage of this exposure as well. Jay Adams, Ford Chandler, Katherine

Jakeway and Kaitlyn Schroeder all were standout players from the North Florida Junior Tour

(NFJG) and were selected to participate in this year’s event.

"Some of the best boy and girl competitors from around the world participate in the

American Junior events, and based on our entry list, this one won’t be any different," said Reid

Whitaker, 2016 American Junior tournament director. Last year’s American Junior champion for

the boy’s category was Adam Guedra from Sweden and the girl’s category was Jo Hua Hung

from Taiwan.

"The event is a family-oriented environment for the participants. We provide hotel

accommodations, transportation and meals for the competitors so their families may feel at ease.

It is great exposure for the participants and everyone has a great time, said Reid Whitaker.”

The 2016 American Junior is open to the public and we encourage spectators. To attend,
