[edit] Protagonists
[edit] Sakura Kinomoto

Main article: Sakura Kinomoto

Sakura Kinomoto (木之本 桜 Kinomoto Sakura?) is a fictional character, the heroine of

Clamp's manga series Cardcaptor Sakura. In the English anime adaptation of the series,
Cardcaptors, her name is changed to Sakura Avalon. She captures cards with Li Syaoran,
by using her 'sealing wand' to store them and their magical powers into the 'clow cards'.
Her outfit changes every episode always made by her rich friend Tomoyo (always an
accessory for Kero too.) In the second season Master of the Clow, syaoran expresses his
love for her, she returns these feelings in the second movie. For all Japanese-language
productions of the anime (including movies, audio CDs, and video games), Sakura is
voiced by Sakura Tange. For English-language productions, she is voiced by Carly
McKillip through Cardcaptors and the first movie. She is voiced in the second movie by
Kari Wahlgren.

[edit] Syaoran Li

Syaoran Li (李 小狼 Ri Shaoran?, Chinese Pinyin: Lǐ Xiǎoláng) is a distant relative of

Clow Reed (on Clow's mother's side), the creator of the Clow Cards. As such, he believes
that he should be the one to inherit the Clow Cards. He is initially Sakura's antagonist,
trying to capture the cards for himself, and also finding himself competing with her for
Yukito's affections. From the moment they first meet, Sakura's brother Toya appears to
dislike Syaoran, which he later explains is because he had a vision long ago that Syaoran
would "take something precious from [him]".

As the series progresses, Syaoran comes to respect Sakura and becomes her friend and
ally. He eventually falls in love with her, though she is initially slow to realize it due to
her own feelings for Yukito. In the anime, Syaoran's feelings became apparent at the
beginning of the third season. In the manga, Syaoran begins to develop feelings for
Sakura after she captured the Erase card. After Yukito rejects Sakura's feelings, Syaoran
comforts her and Sakura slowly returns his feelings. Near the second half of the series,
Syaoran confesses his feelings to Sakura, but she is not sure how to respond. With the
issue of the cards settled, he decides to return to Hong Kong, but Sakura meets him at the
airport, he gives her a teddy bear he made. He promises to return as soon as he can finish
settling his affairs there and make arranges to permanently relocate. At the end of the
series, he returns from Hong Kong a few years later to reunite with Sakura.
In the anime adaptation, Syaoran manages to "collect" several cards by playing a major
role in helping Sakura seal them. He is allowed to attempt the final judgment, but fails.
Sakura also does not return his feelings in the initial anime, but does confess at the end of
the second film. In Japanese media, Syaoran is voiced by Motoko Kumai. In the English
Cardcaptor adaptation, he is renamed to Li Showron and he is introduced in the first
episode, as the male lead. He is also called a "Cardcaptor", despite his not being chosen
by Kero as such. Syaoran is voiced by Rhys Huber during the Clow Cards arc and the
first movie, by Jordan Kilik in the Sakura Cards arc, and by Mona Marshall in the second
movie.

[edit] Antagonists
[edit] Eriol Hiiragizawa

Eriol Hiiragizawa (柊沢 エリオル Hīragizawa Erioru?) is the principal antagonist in the
second half of the series, commonly called the Master of the Clow arc. The reincarnation
of Clow Reed, Eriol has both Clow's memories and all of his magic power. He has a
magical staff similar to Clow Reed's, can restrain Clow's creations Yue and Cerberus, and
has created his own similar pair of guardians: Ruby Moon and Spinel Sun. He moves
from England to transfer to Tomoeda Elementary school after Sakura Kinomoto passed
the Last Judgement and became the official master of the cards. He is depicted as a quiet,
mature boy while at school, though he also shows a mischievous side when he regularly
joins classmate Takashi Yamazaki in weaving complex lies about the history of objects,
places, and events. While seeming a normal student to Sakura, Syaoran Li is suspicious
of him. It is soon shown that Yue and Cerberus are able to detect his magical signature as
being Clow's, and Eriol must erase Yue's memories after he is accidentally seen by him.

Eriol came to Japan in order to aid Sakura and force her to use her own magical powers
to convert the Clow Cards into Sakura cards. This is necessary as the cards take their
magical energy from their master, but until Sakura converted them, they could not use her
magic and were slowly dying. The guardian Yue also was suffering the same fate, forcing
Sakura's brother to "feed" him all of his magical power to prevent Yue, and his false form
Yukito, from dying.

Sakura does not become aware that Eriol is causing all of the magical disasters that are
forcing her to convert the cards until near the end of the series when Eriol reveals himself
to her. He puts the city to sleep and challenges Sakura to convert the last two cards, the
Dark and the Light, which must be changed together. After Sakura successfully does so,
he then tells her that she is now more powerful than Clow Reed and asks her to perform
one final task for him: to divide his own magical power between himself and her father
Fujitaka—the other reincarnation of Clow Reed—so that Eriol will no longer be the most
powerful magician in the world. He then takes Sakura, Syaoran, Tomoyo, Yue, and
Cerberus to his home where he explains why he had to give her a reason to convert the
cards, as her doing so without a need could have been dangerous for Sakura.
Eriol's true age is unknown, as he used his magic to halt his aging process to remain the
same physical age as Sakura. He is romantically involved with Kaho Mizuki, whom he
originally sent from England to aid Sakura in the Final Judgment and who offers Sakura
support through letters during the second arc. At the end of the manga series, she returns
with him to England, and in the second anime movie, they are shown together when
Sakura calls for advice.

In the anime series, Eriol is the sole reincarnation of Clow Reed, with all of the elements
from the manga regarding Fujitaka's relation to Clow and inheriting of half of his powers
removed. The final explanation at Eriol's house is also shifted slightly so it takes place the
day after the final battle, rather than immediately after, and it is done because Sakura
seeks him out rather than his giving an invitation.

The character of Eriol is voiced by Sasaki Nozomu. In the Cardcaptors English

adaptation, his name is changed to Eli Moon and he is voiced by Bill Switzer. In the
English dub of the second film, his voice is supplied by Johnny Yong Bosch.

[edit] Spinel Sun

Spinel Sun (スピネル・サン Supineru San?) is the cat-like magical guardian created by
Eriol Hiiragizawa as a counter part to Clow Reed's original guardian Cerberus. Spinel
Sun's true form is a butterfly-winged black panther, while his false form is similar to a
small winged cat. Nicknamed Suppi by Ruby Moon, Spinel Sun spends most of his time
reading and projects a calm demeanor. Ruby Moon often teases him that he needs to have
more fun. During the series, he mostly remains out of sight of the main characters, except
when he once runs into Cerberus in his false form (though this encounter is exclusive to
the anime). Fortunately for him, Cerberus doesn't suspect anything and instead declares
him a monster and feeds him sweets, not realizing that the sweets would turn Spinel Sun
into a hyperactive eating machine. Cerberus does not learn his true identity until just
before the final battle where the two cats face one another. Initially, Spinel Sun appears to
have the upper hand, however Cerberus' greater determination to protect Sakura enable
him to defeat him.

In the anime adaptation, he voiced by Katsuyuki Konishi in his true form, and by Yumi
Tōma in his false form. In the second Cardcaptor Sakura movie, his false form briefly
appears and is voiced by Philece Sampler. In the English adaptation Cardcaptors, his
name is changed to Spinner Sun and both forms are voiced by Colin Murdock.

[edit] Ruby Moon

Ruby Moon (ルビー・ムーン Rubī Mūn?) is one of two magical guardians created by Eriol
Hiiragizawa. The counterpart to the original guardian, Yue, Ruby Moon is genderless but
prefers to act as a female. When Eriol transfers to Tomoeda Elementary, Ruby Moon
created a false form named Nakuru Akizuki (秋月 奈久留 Akizuki Nakuru?) and enrolls
in Seijou High School, entering the same class as Toya Kinomoto, Sakura's brother, and
Yukito Tsukishiro, the false form of Yue who is unaware of his true nature. As Akizuki,
she acts as a general annoyance, deliberately interfering every time Toya tries to talk to
Yukito about the latter's dwindling energy. She claims she wants to consume Toya's
energy herself, though it is never stated that she actually has a need for it nor why she
couldn't simply steal it. When Toya is finally able to speak with Yue and give him all of
his magical energy to sustain Yue's life, Akizuki gives up her pursuit, though she
expresses great contempt at Yue's survival. In the final battle, Ruby Moon battles Yue and
initially appears to be winning. However, Yue is able to get past her due to his greater
determination and desire to protect Sakura.

In the anime adaptation, she is voiced by Ryoka Yuzuki. In the English adaptation,
Cardcaptors, both her true form and false form is called Ruby Moon and she is voiced by
Willow Johnson.

[edit] Supporting characters

[edit] Cerberus

Cerberus (ケルベロス Keruberosu?), nicknamed "Kero", is the appointed guardian of the

book which holds the Clow Cards. He is one of two magical creatures created by Clow
Reed along with the Clow Cards. Before his death, Clow appointed Kero as the one to
select the potential candidate to be the next master of the cards, Cerberus himself, and his
"brother" and fellow guardian, Yue. After Sakura accidentally releases the cards, Cerberus
chooses her to be the candidate and teaches her the basics of capturing the cards.
Throughout the series, he displays an extensive knowledge of mysticism. After Sakura
passes the Final Judgment to become the Clow Cards master, Cerberus remains with her
as a friend, companion, adviser, and protector when new threats appear.

Having spent a lengthy amount of time in the book while it was in Osaka, Cerberus
speaks with a pointed Osakan-accent.[1] He tends to be bossy, demanding, egotistical and
gluttonous, but clearly displays his affection for Sakura, especially if she is hurt or in
danger. He becomes very fond of video games, and is addicted to sweets.[1] Cerberus
spends most of his time in a "temporary" or "false form": a small figure resembling an
orange stuffed animal with wings.[1] Unlike Yue, Cerberus' magical powers are like the
sun, and thus largely self-sustaining, and he is subsequently not as dependent on his
master's power to support his life as is Yue. However, his master must have control of the
Firey and Earthy cards in order to power his true form, a large-winged cat. In the anime
adaptation, the Light card is changed to the Earthy card to delay his obtaining his true
form.[1] Cerberus' name is taken from the Greek mythological figure, Cerberus, a large
three-headed beast who was assigned to guard the gates of Hades. In the bilingual
Kodansha version of the manga, the name for Cerberus' borrowed form is Cero.

In the anime adaptation, his false form is voiced by Aya Hisakawa, while his hidden form
is voiced by Masaya Onosaka. In the English release of the anime adaptation, his name is
spelled Kerberos. In the English adaptation, Cardcaptors, it is changed to Keroberos. His
false form is voiced by Matt Hill with a New York accent, and Richard Newman voices
his true form, though the accent is not as distinct. In the second film, he is voiced by
Wendee Lee and Dave Wittenberg, in his respective forms.

[edit] Tomoyo Daidouji

Tomoyo Daidouji (大道寺 知世 Daidōji Tomoyo?) is the best friend of the series'
protagonist, Sakura Kinomoto, and her second cousin on their mothers' sides. The
daughter of the president of Daidōji Toy Company, Sonomi Daidōji, Tomoyo lives a life
of wealth and is watched over by a team of female bodyguards. She has access to a
variety of prototype technological gadgets from her mother's company, and supplies
Sakura and Cerberus with different communication devices throughout the series. She is
depicted as being mature, kind-hearted, and intelligent, and regularly speaking using
more formal verb conjugations and expressions than normally seen in elementary
students. She is a talented singer, and is shown performing in various school events. In
the anime, her musical ability causes her to be targeted by both the Voice and Song cards.

When she learns of Sakura's new role as a Cardcaptor, she insists that Sakura must wear
"special clothes" and begins providing Sakura with the various costumes she wears
during her captures as well as accompanying her on missions to record the events with
her video camera. In the manga, some scenes give the appearance that Tomoyo has a
crush on Sakura's brother Toya; however, according to an interview in the Cardcaptor
Sakura Memorial Book, this was an error caused by one of the finishing artists not being
aware that CLAMP intended for Tomoyo to have feelings for Sakura. In future volumes,
this is corrected by having a scene note that Tomoyo blushed around Toya because he
reminded her of Sakura.[2] While Tomoyo is in love with Sakura, she notes that she is
happy to be able to be with Sakura and does not require Sakura to love her back. Instead,
she encourages Sakura's love of Yukito, and later becomes Syaoran Li's confidante and
ally when he falls in love with Sakura.

In the English adaptation Cardcaptors, Tomoyo's name is changed to Madison Taylor.

The familiar relationship with Sakura is removed and all dialog suggesting that she has
romantic feelings for Sakura are edited to be purely platonic in nature.[3]

In the anime adaptation, the character is voiced by Junko Iwao. In Cardcaptors, she is
voiced by Maggie Blue O'Hara. In the English dub of Cardcaptor Sakura Movie 2: The
Sealed Card, her voice is supplied by Michelle Ruff.

[edit] Clow Reed

Clow Reed (クロウ・リード Kurō Rīdo?) is the magician who originally created the Clow
Cards, and their magical guardians Cerberus and Yue. Born of an English father and a
Chinese mother, Clow created a new type of magic that blended both Eastern and
Western magical elements. His plan was to hand down the magic to people who would
use and protect it while meeting all of the qualifications. However, few people could
learn his brand of magic. The character of Clow is only seen in flash backs, as he has
long been dead before the series starts. Few details are revealed about his character,
personality, or life.

When Clow knew he was about to die, he chose his then unborn descendent, Sakura
Kinomoto, to become the new guardian of the cards and the new master of Yue and
Cerberus. Clow's magical ability allowed him to foresee most of the future and plan many
of the situations that would enable Sakura to succeed in taking full possession of the
Clow Cards. Likewise, he deliberately made the sealing wand for the cards pink,
reflecting that its future user would be a young girl. He also split his soul into two
reincarnations, Eriol Hiiragizawa who had all of his memories and magic he possessed,
and Fujitaka Kinomoto, Sakura's father. In the anime adaptation, Clow only splits his soul
into a single reincarnation.

In the first anime film, the "Madoushi (魔導師 Madōshi, literally Sorceress?)", the spirit
of a woman who had fought bitterly with Clow about the appropriate use of magic, is
introduced. Even after her death, she attempted to continue the feud by embedding her
spirit in a book and waits for Clow Reed. After Sakura accidentally releases her, the
sorceress refuses to believe Clow is dead and attacks Sakura and her friends for trying to
trick her. When Sakura is able to convince her that Clow has gone, the spirit realizes that
she had truly loved Clow rather than hating him as she believed. Accepting his death, her
spirit vanishes.

In the anime adaptation and the film, he is voiced by Kazuo Hayashi. In the English
adaptation, Cardcaptors, he is voiced by Dale Wilson. The design, name and past of the
character Clow Reed are reused in two additional CLAMP works, Tsubasa: Reservoir
Chronicle and xxxHolic.

[edit] Yukito Tsukishiro

Yukito Tsukishiro (月城 雪兎 Tsukishiro Yukito?) (nicknamed 'Yuki' by Touya, and 'Yuki-
usagi' by Cerberus) is the close friend of Sakura's older brother, Toya, and the human
alter-ego of the Clow Card guardian, Yue.Though he is certainly Yue's temporary form,
he is referenced several times by other characters (including Eriol and Yue himself) as
being simultaneously a completely separate "heart" from Yue's.As Yukito, he displays a
kind and gentle nature, and at the start of the series, Sakura has a crush on him. When she
eventually confesses her feelings, he gently rejects her noting that the one he "likes best"
is Toya. For most of the series, Yukito is unaware of Yue's existence, though he maintains
an enormous appetite for food in an unconscious attempt to give Yue power. Yue's
existence is revealed to the other characters after all of the Clow Cards are collected, and
Toya states he knew of Yue's existence all along and was just waiting for Yukito to notice
himself. Once Sakura collects all of the cards, Yue begins needing greater power as her
magic isn't strong enough to sustain him. Subconsciously, Yukito begins eating even more
to try to compensate, but it is not enough and he starts sleeping constantly, even while
standing, and eventually finds his body fading away altogether. Once Toya gives his
magical energy to Yue to sustain them, Yukito begins to grow aware of Yue's existence
and that the grandparents he thought he lived with didn't exist. It is suggested that he
came into existence shortly before he met Toya, to be near the future new guardian of the
Clow Cards. Eriol tells Yue that while he (and Clow) did know Sakura would be the
future master of the cards, that Yukito had deviated from his vision by falling in love with
Toya instead of Sakura. In the Japanese anime adaptations Yukito is voiced by Megumi
Ogata. In Cardcaptors, Yukito's name is changed to Julian Star, his relationship with Toya
is removed, and he is voiced by Samuel Vincent. In the English dub of the second movie,
he is voiced by Steve Staley.

[edit] Touya Kinomoto

Toya Kinomoto (木之本 桃矢 Kinomoto Tōya?) is Sakura's older brother. Though he

teases her frequently, he cares a great deal for her and works to protect her. He is fully
aware of what she is doing as a Cardcaptor, and regularly takes on several part-time jobs
that put him in a position to be nearby when she is working on capturing a card. He also
initially dislikes Syaoran, knowing that one day Syaoran will "take her away" from him.
Toya possesses several magical powers, including the ability to see ghosts and other non-
humans, the ability to sense when Sakura is in danger, and mild precognition. He has a
close relationship with his friend Yukito, despite knowing he is the alter-ego of Yue. To
save them both, he eventually gives all of his magical powers to Yue, making him
promise to protect Sakura in his stead as well as himself (and, by extension, Yukito). In
the Japanese anime adaptation, Toya is voiced by Tomokazu Seki. In the Animax English
adaptation, his name is romanized as "Touya". In the English adaptation Cardcaptors his
name is changed to Tori Avalon, his relationship with Yukito is removed, and he is voiced
by Tony Sampson. In the English dub of the second film, Kirk Thornton takes over the
voicing role.

[edit] Fujitaka Kinomoto

Fujitaka Kinomoto (木之本 藤隆 Kinomoto Fujitaka?) is the father of titular character,

Sakura Kinomoto, and a reincarnation of the Clow Cards' creator, Clow Reed. A busy
professor of archaeology at Towa University, Fujitaka is a kind and caring father. He met
his late wife Nadeshiko while doing his first year as a teacher at her high school.
Nadeshiko had climbed a tree to return a baby bird to its nest, but fell out of the tree,
landing on Fujitaka. Upon seeing her, he stated that "an angel has fallen from the sky."
They fell in love and married when she was sixteen. Though Nadeshiko died seven years
before the start of the series, Fujitaka is shown to still be very much in love with her and
devoted to her memory. He keeps a picture of her in the dining room, changing it each
morning.

Little is initially said about Fujitaka's family or past. During the second half of the series,
it is revealed that when Clow Reed divided his soul (seeking to no longer be the most
powerful magician in the world), he split it into two halves. One of these halves became
Eriol Hiiragizawa, holding all of Clow's magic and memories, and the other being
Fujitaka, who has no magic of his own, but fathered the one who would inherit the cards.
It is stated that Fujitaka has no magical powers of his own, but he is also unaffected by
other Clow's magic, such as the Eriol's sleep spell. At the end of the series, Eriol gives
half of his magic to Fujitaka. This enables Fujitaka to finally see the spirit of Nadeshiko,
who has been watching over her family since her death.

In the anime adaptation, Fujitaka's role as the other half of Clow Reed's reincarnation is
completely removed as is his immunity to Eriol's magic and he is never able to see
Nadeshiko's spirit. He is voiced by Hideyuki Tanaka. In the Cardcaptors English
adaptation, his name is changed to Aiden Avalon and he is voiced by Brian Drummond.
In the English dub of the second movie, he is voiced by Michael McConnohie.

[edit] Yue

Yue (月?, Chinese Pinyin: Yuè) is the one of two Guardians of the Clow Cards, along with
Cerberus. His name, which is written in katakana rather than hiragana is the Mandarin
Chinese word for "moon". Where Cerebus is the elector of the new Clow Card Master,
Yue is the judge who is allowed to test the candidate for their worthiness. He spends most
of the series in his temporary form, Yukito Tsukishiro, who initially has no memory or
knowledge of his other self. Unlike Cerberus, Yue's powers are heavily dependent on the
power of his master. Sakura's power is not yet strong enough to sustain him after he
awakens, particularly after she begins transforming the Clow Cards into Sakura Cards.
Yue's growing need for power is reflected in Yukito's ravenous appetite, and later constant
sleeping. Similarly, the deficit effects Yue himself in instances such as the blatant failure
of his magic which causes he and Sakura to fall out of the sky during one of Eriol's
synthesized 'situations'. Eventually, Sakura's brother Toya reveals that he knows Yue and
Yukito are not human and gives his power to Yue to sustain his existence so he does not
lose Yukito.

Though he is not human, he has the appearance of a beautiful young man with long,
silver, braided hair, silver-purple cat like eyes, and a pair of white angel wings which he
uses for flight. He is also considered a genderless creation of Clow Reed, same as Ruby
Moon. His personality is depicted as more serious and aloof than Yukito's, and while
Yukito is fond of Sakura, Yue is reluctant to accept her. As the series progress, he comes
to respond to Sakura's request that rather than being his master, she just wants to be his
friend. Yue has jurisdiction over the elements wind and water, though he is stated by
Cerberus to have control over other cards, including the Wood. In the anime television
series, Yue is voiced by Megumi Ogata in Japanese and Sam Vincent in English. In the
English dub of the second anime film, his voice is provided by Steve Staley.

[edit] Meiling Li

Meiling Li (李 苺鈴 Ri Meirin?, Chinese Pinyin: Lǐ Méilíng) is a character that appears

only in the anime adaptation of Cardcaptor Sakura. Introduced in episode 19, she is
Syaoran Li's cousin and self-proclaimed fiancée. As children living in Hong Kong, they
both trained in martial arts under the tutelage of Wang Wei. One night her pet bird
escaped from his cage, and the normally quiet and withdrawn Syaoran told her not to cry,
then left. After spending hours in the rain, he returned with the bird and Meiling was both
grateful and touched. From that day, she devoted herself to him, eventually declaring that
she liked him above all others and, reasoning that he liked her as well, she declared them
to be engaged. At the same time, she promised that if he ever found someone he liked
more than her, she would call the engadgment off.[4]

In coming to Tokyo, Meiling intends to help Syaoran gather the Clow Cards, and actively
dislikes Sakura. As the series progresses, Meiling develops a grudging respect for Sakura
that turns into a good friendship by the time Meiling returns to Hong Kong in episode 43.
During her initial visit, Meiling seemed to recognize that Syaoran was falling in love with
Sakura, but it wasn't until she briefly returned in episode 60 that she fully acknowledges
and accepts Sakura as the person Syaoran loves. Wanting to keep his promise, Syaoran
attempts to tell her that he loves Sakura, but Meiling interrupts and tells him that she
knows because he is now calling Sakura by her first name, something he only does for his
sisters and herself. She smiles at Syaoran with tears in her eyes and declares that the
engagement is called off, then quickly leaves. Meiling spends the night at Tomoyo
Daidōji's house to release all of her sadness through much screaming and tears without
burdening Syaoran. At the end of the episode, Meiling returns home and is not seen again
in the main series. She returns in the second movie, with Syaoran, and together with
Tomoyo tries to help Sakura confess her own feelings to him.

Unlike Syaoran, Meiling has no magical abilities, relying solely on her physical fighting
abilities and a healthy dose of pride. Her lack of powers, however, results in her
hindering more than helping Syaoran in most battles against the cards. She challenges
The Fight card in episode 20, and was nearly badly wounded and had to be rescued by
Syaoran. Recognizing that she was being a burden, Meiling grew upset and lashed out at
Syaoran. However, she was then able to be an aid to him while fighting The Twin card, as
their years of practicing martial arts together enables them to match the card's
synchronized fighting style.

The character of Meiling is voiced by Yukana Nogami. In the English adaptation

Cardcaptors her name is changed to Meilin Rae and her relationship with Syaoran is
changed from cousins to childhood friends. She is voiced by Nicole Oliver. In the English
dub of the second movie, she is voiced by Julie Maddalena.

[edit] Sonomi Daidouji

Sonomi Daidouji (大道寺 園美 Daidōji Sonomi?) is the mother of titular character

Sakura's best friend Tomoyo Daidouji, and the first cousin of Sakura's late mother
Nadeshiko Kinomoto. She is rarely seen in the series, but is said to be a wealthy woman
and the President of a large toy corporation. She greatly loved her cousin Nadeshiko, and
disapproved of her marriage to Fujitaka, later blaming Fujitaka for Nadeshiko's death at a
young age. During the marriage, it is implied that Nadeshiko was at least partially cut off
from her family. Sonomi has Tomoyo keep her hair long because it reminds her of
Nadeshiko.

After meeting Sakura for the first time, Sonomi realizes that Nadeshiko had lived a happy
life and is able to come to terms with the marriage. At times, she still treats Fujitaka as a
"rival" competing to love Sakura more, but she also helps him pass on gifts from Sakura
to her grandfather and to arrange for Sakura to meet her great-grandfather while on a
family vacation. Sonomi shows great affection for Sakura, wanting to join her and
Tomoyo whenever Sakura comes over to visit.

In the Cardcaptors English adaptation, her name is changed to Samantha Taylor and her
declaration of love for Nadeshiko is modified to a purely familiar love rather than a
romantic love.

Sonomi is voiced by Miki Itō. She is voiced by Venus Terzo in Cardcaptors and by
Wendee Lee in the English dub of the second movie.

[edit] Yoshiyuki Terada

Yoshiyuki Terada (寺田 良幸 Terada Yoshiyuki?) is a teacher at Tomoeda Elementary

School. During the series, as the main characters go through fourth grade, and enter the
fifth grade, he acts as their home room teacher. He is also shown teaching in other
classes, including the physical education classes, and he acts as the chaperon on several
school field trips. As the series progresses, it is revealed that he is having a romantic
relationship with his student Rika Sasaki. In the manga, they become engaged when he
gives her a ring, noting that he hopes it will one day become her wedding ring. Rika gives
him a teddy bear she made and named after herself, which legends says will allow them
to remain in love forever. Towards the end of the series, when Sakura is unsure of her
feelings about Li, the couple is shown having a picnic at a park, with Terada slipping
away so Sakura doesn't notice him. During the series, none of the other characters appear
to know about the relationship, though when Rika is taken over by the Sword card,
Sakura hears her call out "Sensei" (teacher) when she uses the illusion card to show Rika
her most beloved.

In the anime adaptation, their relationship is not shown in the same light. Their
engagement and more romantic scenes between them are removed, and Rika notes that
Terada reminds her of her absentee father. Terada is also shown accepting cakes made by
Rika and in accepting the bear and naming it after his "hardest working student." In the
Cardcaptors English dub, he is simply called Mr. Terada, and all aspects of the romantic
relationship between Terada and Rika are completely removed, with Rika's shyness and
reactions to him made to appear to be more of a general fear of men than romantic
feelings.

In the anime series, he is voiced by Tōru Furusawa for the first season and first movie,
and by Katsuyuki Konishi for the second and third seasons and the second film. In the
Cardcaptors dub, he is voiced by Brian Drummond. He is voiced by Steven Jay Blum in
the English dub of the second movie.

[edit] Rika Sasaki

Rika Sasaki (佐々木 利佳 Sasaki Rika?) is a classmate and friend of titular character
Sakura Kinomoto. She is considered to be very elegant and mature for her age, though
she can also be shy. During the series, she is also shown to be a skilled cook and very
good at crafts. During the series, Rika is affected by the Clow Cards several times. Early
in the series, she buys a brooch that is actually The Sword card. The card takes her over
and causes her to attack Sakura. Sakura is able to stop Rika by using The Illusion card to
show her an image of her beloved, allowing Sakura to capture the card. During the
second half of the series, she is nearly drowned during a magical trial Eriol Hiiragizawa
created to cause Sakura to convert a Clow Card to Sakura Card.

During the series, Rika is shown to be in a romantic relationship with her teacher
Yoshiyuki Terada. In the manga series, they are engaged to be married when she is old
enough, and they frequently spend time alone together on "dates." In the anime
adaptation, the engagement is removed as are many of their dates, however they are still
shown to have affection for one another. Rika gives Terada the hand-made teddy bear she
made, and he names it after her. In both the manga and anime, when Sakura uses the
Illusion card to stop Rika's attacks, she calls the image "Sensei" which means "teacher" in
Japanese. During the final judgment when Yue shows Sakura a world where everyone has
lost their feelings for the one they love the most, Rika is shown handing Terada a paper
without her usual blush and shy look.

In the Cardcaptors English adaptation, Rika's name is changed to Rita and all hints of her
relationship with Terada are removed. Instead of being a good student, she is depicted as
having trouble with her school work and her blushing around Terada is explained away as
being embarrassed at having to stay after school so often.

In the original anime series, she is voiced by Tomoko Kawakami. In the English dub of
the second film, she is voiced by Stevie Bloch.

[edit] Kaho Mizuki

Kaho Mizuki (観月 歌帆 Mizuki Kaho?) is a shrine maiden and the daughter of the priest
at the Tsukimine Shrine. She first appears in the series as a new substitute teacher at
Tomoeda Elementary School for the math class of Sakura Kinomoto and Syaoran Li.
While Sakura instantly likes the teacher and feels a connection with her, Syaoran is
distrustful and believes she is up to no good.

When Sakura, Syaoran, Meiling and Tomoyo are trapped by the Maze card, Kaho uses a
mysterious bell to break through Maze's walls allowing Sakura to capture it. After this
incident, the readers learn that Sakura's older brother Toya dated Kaho when she was his
junior high school teacher and that they broke up when Kaho left to study in England.
Before she left, she told them that when they met again, they would be in love with
different people which he acknowledges is now true.

After meeting her, Cerberus incorrectly believes that Kaho is the false form of his fellow
guardian Yue, which is later shown to actually be Yukito Tsukishiro. Kaho's role is to use
the bell left at her family's shrine to give Sakura another chance when she is unable to
defeat Yue out of fear of hurting him. The bell changes Sakura's staff into a new staff
containing her own power of the stars and gives her the power to use the cards to defeat
Yue. After fulfilling this duty, she returns to England. During the third season of the
series, she is primarily "seen" through providing a steady, but oftentimes enigmatic
exchange of letters with Sakura over the mysterious attacks. After Eriol Hiiragizawa
reveals the truth behind the attacks, they learn that Kaho had met Eriol three years before
Sakura discovered the Book of the Clow. As they leave for England, Kaho and Eriol
confirm their feelings for one another and vow to remain together. In the anime, Kaho is
last seen in the second film expressing concern for Sakura and her friends due to the
incidents with the final card.

In the anime series, Kaho is voiced by Emi Shinohara. In the English adaptation
Cardcaptors, her name is changed to Layla MacKenzie and she is voiced by Linda Rae.

The Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle manga series and the Tsubasa Chronicle anime series
features a large cast of characters designed by Clamp. The series takes place in a fictional
multiverse with nonparallel timelines where several characters – taken from many of
Clamp's past works – can appear in several of the universes as having the same character
names and designs but differing histories and settings. The series' storyline follows a
group of five adventurers as they travel through the different dimensions.

The story begins in the desert country of Clow where the one of the protagonists,
Syaoran, a devoted and kind archeologist who is unaware of his past, is continuing the
work of his late father of excavating the nearby ruins. His childhood friend Sakura, the
kind and well-loved princess of the kingdom where Syaoran lives who holds an
undeveloped magic, however is 'called' into the ruins and mysteriously has her memories
scattered across the dimensions in the form of feathers and will die if they are not
returned to her. To save her, Syaoran takes her to the Dimensional Witch where he meets
two more of the series' protagonists who have arrived with similar wishes: Kurogane, a
rough-mannered ninja, and Fai D. Flourite, a laid-back magician with a dark past. In
order to journey across the dimensions, they receive a cheerful white creature named
Mokona, the fifth of the group, from the Dimensional Witch Yūko Ichihara. On their
journey across the dimensions to retrieve Sakura's feathers, they encounter several other
characters as well as many characters that they have already encountered before in other
dimensions. The series' antagonists who are directed Fei Wang Reed are deeply involved
with all of the protagonists' pasts as well as the their current journey.

[edit] Protagonists
[edit] Syaoran

Syaoran (小狼 Shaoran?) is a resident of the Kingdom of Clow, who meets and falls in
love with Sakura. He is the adopted son of Fujitaka, who found him in the street. He often
accompanies his father on expeditions, and while in the Clow Kingdom, he spends most
of his time with Sakura. After Sakura's memories are scattered, he makes it his goal to
find them, even at the cost of their relationship. He eventually starts to lose control of his
body at certain points, and his personality completely changes. It is eventually revealed
that he is a clone of the original Syaoran(Tsubasa), meant to be a mindless doll controlled
by Fei Wang. Syaoran manages to place some of his "heart" within the clone's right eye,
which allows him to become his own person. After the seal breaks, he is used by Fei
Wang to collect feathers, but he comes to his senses after killing Sakura. He is killed after
he betrays Fei Wang, but he is reincarnated into Syaoran, living in another dimension.

Syaoran often feels he is a burden to others, and he is constantly concerned about

worrying others. He is shy and innocent, but he is willing to risk his life for those close to
himself. He is an aspiring archaeologist, he can read a number of languages, and he takes
an overly animate interest in history and books. After the seal on his right eye breaks, he
becomes cold and indifferent. He only cares about collecting feathers and will do
whatever it takes to get them, including injuring those who care for him. He ignores any
type of pain, which makes him strong and ruthless.

Syaoran is blind within his right eye, which is instead used by the original to see, so he
has depth perception problems. Seishirō teaches him a style of fighting based around
kicking to make up for it, and he later trains with Kurogane to remove the weakness by
training while blindfolded. He is also taught swordsmanship by Kurogane, and he later
gains Hien, a sword with magical properties that allow it to create fire. After the seal is
broken, he consumes one of Fay's eyes, which are the source of his magic. He uses it to
its full destructive potential, and it becomes stronger every time he uses it.

Syaoran eventually turns against his creator and aids his original in trying to save Sakura;
however, Fei Wong kills Syaoran. Syaoran is reborn as Syaoran Li, along with Sakura, in
an alternate world, and he becomes his original's father. He and Sakura raise the original
Syaoran until they send him to Clow Country to meet with his destined person,
afterwards sealing themselves inside the glass tube. Sakura and Syaoran, after breaking
free from the tube, cleanse the feathers, but both ultimately disappear after Kurogane kills
Fei Wong, leaving behind only a feather which Syaoran's original absorbs.
He is voiced by Miyu Irino in Japanese, and by Jason Liebrecht in English.

[edit] Tsubasa (Syaoran)

Tsubasa (ツバサ?), usually called Syaoran (小狼 Shaoran?), who also calls himself
Syaoran Li after his father, is the original, who is initially seen trapped by Fei Wang Reed
for the first part of the series, and he sometimes connects with the clone. He is sent to
Yuko as a young child by his parents, and he is sent to Clow Country, where he meets
Tsubasa, who introduces herself as Sakura. He is told that he will have to make a choice,
which ends up being to return to Clow in order to save her life while being unable to
return home. Because of a slight hesitation, he failed to grab her hand before Fei Wang
Reed placed the black seal of death on her, and then tries to cure her for seven years. Her
mother stops time right before her death, and he is granted a wish to turn back time by
Yuko, but at the price of losing his freedom to Fei Wang. Watanuki Kimihiro is created to
replace Syaoran within his original world,[1] and Fei Wang creates the clone of Tsubasa to
use as a pawn, but he manages to place some of his "heart" within one of the clone's eyes,
so that Fei Wang cannot control it.

Tsubasa stays trapped by Fei Wang for many years, and he watches the events of the
series through the Clone's eye. The seal eventually weakens on the clone, and he manages
to awaken in order to attempt to stop it. He fails, and the clone escapes, while Tsubasa
continues on with the group. He eventually reveals his past, and the fact that he may have
been the one to ruin Kurogane and Fay's lives with his wish, but they tell him not to
worry about it. He is skilled in swordmanship, having trained with his father and
experienced Kurogane training the clone. He also has the abilities taught to the clone by
Seishirō, and he is skilled in magic, knowing elemental magic and being able to summon
a sword.

After Fei Wang is defeated, Tsubasa, Syaoran and Watanuki are subjected to his final
curse, and all pulled into a void between time and space, and told they must pay the price
to leave. He decides the price he would pay is for his journey to continue. Thus, he can
never again stay in one place for too long. However, using the power of the memories of
his father, his journey will always lead him back to Sakura's side, even if he must leave it
again. He is voiced by Miyu Irino.

In a special chapter of xxxHolic, Tsubasa and co. reach the shop for the second time after
the events of the series. More than one year had passed and the group had traveled
through many worlds, but did not return to Clow Country yet. Thanks to Watanuki who
succeeded Yuko as the shop's owner, the group left the shop to finally reach Clow
Country once more.

In another of Clamp's works, Kobato,Tsubasa made a bit of a guest appearance in the

anime adaptation. His appearance takes place after the ending of the manga. He helps
Kobato make money for Valentine's Day chocolates by helping her work in a bakery.

[edit] Sakura
Sakura (サクラ?) is the princess of the Kingdom of Clow, who befriends and falls in love
with Syaoran during her childhood. A powerful force strips her of her memories and
magical abilities, which take the form of feathers. All the feathers are spread throughout
different 'dimensions' (parallel worlds). To retrieve the feathers and thereby save her life,
she and Syaoran are sent to Yūko, who gives them the use of Mokona in exchange for
Sakura's memory of Syaoran, which causes him to be absent from any memories restored
to her. She is initially weak, confused, and constantly tired, but she grows stronger as she
regains her feathers. She is very friendly with Fay and Mokona, she grows close to
Syaoran again, and she notices that she is missing something from her memories. Sakura
possesses unnaturally good luck; Yūko calls her "God's favorite daughter." Sakura also
has the ability to "hear" the voices of those who cannot be heard, such as spirits of nature,
and to see ghosts.

After Syaoran is revealed to be a clone, she becomes very distant from the group,
especially the real Syaoran, and wishes for the clone to be restored to his former self. Her
soul is eventually killed by the clone, but just before her death, she reveals that she is a
clone of the real Tsubasa. Her purpose was to map out other dimensions for Fei Wang,
who created her, by finding the feathers. She is reincarnated in the original Sakura's body
in the past, with her memories intact by Yūko, along with the clone Syaoran, and the two
eventually meet and give birth to a boy, who turns out to be Tsubasa. They raise him until
it is time for him to begin the events of the series, and then they are sealed in a glass tube
in order to await the time where Reed attempts to shatter reality. Sakura and Syaoran,
after breaking free from the tube, cleanse the feathers, but both ultimately disappear after
Kurogane kills Fei Wong, leaving behind only a feather which Sakura's original absorbs.

She is voiced by Yui Makino in the anime adaptation, and by Monica Rial in the English
adaptation.

[edit] Tsubasa (Sakura)

Tsubasa (ツバサ?), usually called Sakura (サクラ?), is the princess of the Kingdom of
Clow, who befriends and falls in love with Tsubasa during her childhood. They first met
inside the ruins while she's under her cleansing ceremony, seven days before her birthday.

The night before her last ceremony, she brought Tsubasa on the top of the castle to show
him the sky, and then Sakura had a sudden dream. She heard the sound of water coming
from the ruins, and yelled for Tsubasa to not come closer for it was dangerous. Because
of that, Tsubasa decided to come with Sakura to the ruins for her last ceremony and
before saying goodbye. To Tsubasa's surprise, there's a sudden earth quake, and a
dimension-port appeared. Fei Wong appeared and put a "Black Seal" on Sakura. By the
time the wings grow it will devour the princess and she will die. Tsubasa regretfully
makes a wish, 'to turn back time so he has the chance to save her'.

Her soul was frozen in time just before death due to a wish made by Tsubasa, though her
body disappeared after being cloned by Fei Wang Reed. Her soul merges with her clone's
body afterward. At the end of the series she finally confesses her love to Tsubasa, and
remains in the Kingdom of Clow awaiting Tsubasa's return from his neverending journey.
But before Tsubasa go on, they revealed their true names: "TSUBASA".

She is voiced by Yui Makino in the anime adaptation.

[edit] Fai D. Fluorite

Fai D. Flourite (ファイ・D・フローライト Fai D. Furōraito?, also romanized as Fye D.

Flowright) is a powerful magician from the country of Celes. He travels to Yūko on his
own accord after sealing King Ashura of Celes and having his creation, Chī, act as a
barrier to alert Fai if Ashura awakens. He wishes never to return to Celes and have the
ability to run away through dimensions if Ashura does awaken, so he gives up a tattoo on
his back in order to have use of Mokona. Fai is a very enigmatic person. He appears to be
happy-go-lucky and good-natured, and acts very carefree. He often teases Kurogane,
calling him ridiculous nicknames such as "Kuro-rin", "Kuro-tan" and, in the English
version, "Kurgy". Kurogane questions this nature, sensing that it is just a false persona to
hide that he is emotionally distant, and Fai usually gives very dark and enigmatic answers
if asked about it. Fai doesn't bother to fight very hard for his life, and will only do so if
someone he cares for is in danger, which Kurogane notes to be Syaoran and Sakura, as
the group bonds. He is voiced by Daisuke Namikawa in the anime adaptation, and by Vic
Mignogna in the English adaptation.

Fai's real name is "Yūi", and he is born with his identical twin brother, Fai, in Valeria
Country[2] The birth of twins to the second prince of the country is a bad omen, which
leads to the death of their father, the suicide of their mother, and many misfortunes upon
the country. Fearing the combined magical power of the twins, the king imprisons them
within a tower where sinners are kept, where magic is ineffective and time flows
differently. Fai is imprisoned atop the tower, and Yūi is confined at the base of the tower.
Bodies eventually begin to fill the base of the tower, and Yūi attempts to climb towards
his brother. The King, insane, eventually jumps into the tower, revealing that he has killed
everyone in the country, and then kills himself to remind them that they are the cause of
everything.

Eventually, Fei Wang Reed appears from another world, and offers to free one of them.
Fai chooses to save Yūi, resulting in Fai being thrown from the tower to his death, though
Fei Wang tampers with Yūi's memory to make him think that he chose his own life over
Fai. Promising to return Fai to life if Fai becomes his pawn, he bestows two curses upon
Yūi, one of which is removed from his memory. The curses are to kill whoever is a
stronger magician than him, and another curse will use his magic to collapse the world
around them. He tells him about the journey he will have with Sakura. He is soon found
by Ashura, who takes in Yūi, having adopted the name Fai. Ashura also bestows upon
him the surname Fluorite, which is a precious stone found in Celes. Fai is given one of
Sakura's feathers to preserve his dead brother's body. Ashura tutors him in magic and
comforts him, and Fai discovers another two of Sakura's feathers; one he must give to
Sakura when he first meets her, to prevent her death, and the other is used to create Chī,
whose appearance he bases on his late mother. He eventually learns that Ashura's purpose
is to have him kill anyone who threatens the country, which means to kill Ashura himself,
as Ashura kills people in order to make his magic stronger. Instead of fulfilling that role,
he seals Ashura with a sleep spell.

Fai has natural magic abilities that grow stronger every time he uses them, though he
notes that they are only good for destruction. The source of Fai's magical powers is the
blue color of his eyes, which also greatly increases his lifespan. His left eye increases his
powers on usage while his right eye decreases his powers, as noted by Seishirō and Fūma
in Nihon. Since his powers are directly connected to his eyeballs, a loss of vision leads
directly to a loss of magic, and a total loss of magic would lead to his death. Ashura,
wishing Fai to kill him, when he has become stronger than Fai, places a tattoo on Fay's
back to keep him from growing stronger than himself. Once the tattoo is given to Yūko,
he refuses to use his magic. His powers are effectively halved when Syaoran consumes
his left eye, and they continue to diminish afterward. He is forced by Kurogane to
become a vampire to save his life. He gains regeneration and no longer has to rely on his
magic to survive, though he has to regularly drink Kurogane's blood. Kurogane sacrifices
an arm to save Fai from his last curse. He later gives up the rest of his magic in order to
pay a "price" for Yūko (to restore Kurogane's lost arm with a mechanical one), which
leaves him with a permanently gold vampiric eye. Later he recovers his lost left eye,
which Syaoran had been using. The magic, which had been increasing every time the
clone used it, is strong enough to restore Fai's lost eye. His magic is returned to him and
he is able to use it to its full potential.

In Clamp's Kobato story, Fai makes a guest appearance along with Syaoran, Kurogane,
and Mokona. This may connect with the ending of the manga when they set out to travel
and to find the Sakura and Syaoran clones. All three of them then help Kobato make
money for Valentine's Day chocolates during their short stay.

[edit] Kurogane

Kurogane (黒鋼?, lit. "Black Steel") is a rough-mannered ninja from the world of Nihon
(ニホン?, lit. Japan), who is sent away from his world by Princess Tomoyo in order to
have him discover true strength. He is the most powerful warrior in his world, but he
shows no mercy to anyone, even at Tomoyo's request, so she places a "curse" on him that
will decrease his strength if he kills anyone. He gives up his sword,"Ginryū" (銀竜;
Japanese for Silver Dragon?), as the price to use Mokona to cross dimensions and return
to his home world. He quickly bonds with Syaoran, who he trains in swordsmanship and
helps overcome his blind right eye. He is constantly teased by Fay, who calls him a
variety of nicknames, though he also is able to tell Fay's true nature, and Mokona, whose
cute nature Kurogane cannot stand, preferring to refer to Mokona as a "white pork bun."
or "white manju bun." However blunt and crude Kurogane may come off as, he is
actually quite observant and perceptive, being always acutely aware of his surroundings.
Though he initially has no interest in helping restore Sakura's memory, he eventually
finds himself risking his life for the group. He is voiced by Tetsu Inada in Japanese, and
by Christopher Sabat in English.
Kurogane is the son of the lord of the Suwa Province and the miko who protects the area
with a magical barrier. He trains under his father in swordsmanship, wishes to become
stronger so he can protect those he loves, and he cares for his mother, who has
tuberculosis. Eventually, Fei Wong Reed floods the area with demons, which leads to the
death of his father, and Reed personally kills Kurogane's mother through a dimensional
portal. Kurogane goes into a rage, killing all of the demons while grasping his mother's
body, and he is only calmed by Tomoyo. He eventually becomes a personal retainer for
Tomoyo, but his ideals change from protecting those he loves to just gaining strength and
finding his mother's killer. He eventually learns that the whole attack is part of Reed's
plan to make him a pawn, but interference from Yuko causes Tomoyo to reach him first.
Before leaving Nihon, he asks that Tomoyo blesses him with his real name, You-oh. The
anime presents Kurogane with another name used only in his childhood, Haganemaru.

Kurogane is an expert swordsman, who originally used a replica of his father's sword,
Ginryū, opting to have the original buried with his mother in place of his father's remains.
After giving the sword to Yuko, he obtains Sōhi (蒼氷; Japanese for Blue Ice?), which he
initially stores with Mokona, though Fay eventually gives him the ability to summon it
from his left hand. After he cuts off his left arm to save Fay, he is granted an artificial arm
through Fuuma, from Piffle World, though it feels odd to him—and later a better version
when the group returns to Piffle a second time. In Nihon, Tomoyo gives him the real
Ginryū, admitting that she never buried it. He learns that the curse is actually a protective
charm, and his only loss of strength was the loss of his arm, which helps him realize that
"true strength" is protecting those close to him. He most often uses the technique, Hama
Ryū-ō Jin, which is his father's trademark. In the final confrontation with Fei Wang Reed,
Kurogane finally gains his revenge by delivering the fatal blow to Fei Wong Reed in
chapter 230. Kurogane continues to travel with Fay and Syaoran after the series ends.

In the anime adaption of Clamp's Kobato work, Kurogane makes a guest appearance with
Fay, Syaoran, and Mokona in tow. This could connect to the ending of the manga when
they set out to find the Sakura and Syaoran clones. All three help Kobato make some
money for Valentine's Day chocolate in return for letting them rest at her place. However,
Syaoran goes to a bakery where Kobato works to help, while Fay drags a grudging
Kurogane off to other unknown sources of work that got them mistaken for cosplayers,
due to their foreign looking clothes. Fay and the others also remark that Kurogane and
Ioryogi (a short tempered plush dog that watches over Kobato) sound alike, much to the
group's amusement and Kurogane's angry outbursts.

[edit] Mokona Modoki

Mokona Modoki (モコナ=モドキ?) refers to two rabbit-like creatures created by Yūko

Ichihara and Clow Reed in preparation for the events in Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle and
xxxHolic, as well as to stop Fei Wong Reed's plans and save the "two futures". The white
Mokona travels with Syaoran's group, while the black Mokona stays in Yūko's shop.
Both are based upon the original Mokona, who Yūko and Clow encountered while
Mokona was traveling through different worlds. Mokona provided Yūko and Clow with
the knowledge of alternate dimensions.
The white Mokona, whose real name is Soel, is given to Syaoran's group by Yuko in
exchange for their most-valued possessions. Although they appear genderless, it is
suggested in the drama CDs that Soel is female, and the black Mokona, Larg, is male.
Mokona has many abilities, including traveling to different worlds, teleporting objects
from one world to another, sensing strong auras, and allowing people from other worlds
to communicate. She also prides herself on her "108 Secret Skills" that include things like
voice imitation. With the help of the black Mokona, the white Mokona is able to stay in
contact with Yūko, though she also speaks to the black Mokona during their dreams. The
Mokonas are voiced by Mika Kikuchi in the Japanese and Carrie Savage in the English
version.

Mokona is responsible for locating Sakura's feathers, and whenever one is around, it goes
"mekkyo" for an instant, which alerts the others. Mokona is a very cheerful, optimistic
and energetic being, and loves to tease Kurogane, who occasionally uses violence to get
back at her. She has a red earring, which is used to enhance magical power. It is used to
help Kurogane and Fay escape the closing Celes Country.

[edit] Antagonists
[edit] Fei Wang Reed

Fei Wang Reed, also Romanized as Fei Wong Reed,[3] is a mysterious and powerful
villain who is after Sakura's feathers. He is later revealed to be a direct descendant of
Clow Reed and well aware of the powers of the Witch of Dimensions. He was the one
who imprisoned the Tsubasas and created the Syaoran who is the protagonist of Tsubasa
for the first half of the story. Though he already possesses the power to cross dimensions
like the High Priest of Clow and Princess Tomoyo, he seeks the power of Sakura's wings
to "bring back a dream that has already ended" which is foreshadowed in Tsubasa and
×××HOLiC to involve reviving someone who was kept on the brink of death. He is
ruthless in pursuing this dream and does not care how much blood has to be shed to get
that power; those he has killed (or arranged to have killed) include Kurogane's mother,
Xing Huo and the real Fay. His true objective is not to obtain Sakura's feathers; rather, the
scattering of Sakura's memories was to force her to travel between dimensions so her
physical memories would contain a map of the dimensions. This is necessary, in
combination with the soul of the Tsubasa beneath the ruins in the Kingdom of Clow, to
grant Fei Wang's wish. In Chapter 122 of xxxHOLiC, Yūko reveals in a monologue that
he is responsible for the soul stealing entities featured in Volume 5. Also, in Chapter 181
of Tsubasa, Yūko also reveals that this was when she discovered his whereabouts and
learned that he needs the souls for the sake of his dream. Following the souls leads to his
location. In the original Japanese adaptations, Fei Wang Reed is voiced by Kazuhiro
Nakata. For the English dub of the anime adaptation, Fei Wang Reed is voiced by Randy
Tallman in first season and by R. Bruce Elliott in the second season.

It has also been revealed in chapter 178 of Tsubasa that the Sakura traveling with the
Tsubasa group is, in fact, a clone. He has kept Tsubasa's soul alive for the sake of his
dream, but her body "disappeared". Sakura's soul was killed, though he still needed her
body which was taken by his assistant Kyle Rondart.

In chapter 181 Yūko reveals Fei Wang is located in a "cut-off" time of Clow Country and
that it was he who placed the seal of death upon the original Sakura in order to aid the
granting of his wish. Fei Wang revealed in subsequent chapters that Clow Country was
the future of Tokyo, and that the person he was attempting to bring back has suffered the
same fate as Sakura. This person is, in fact, the dimension witch Yūko. He wants to
resurrect her because he sees the act as his only chance of proving he is superior than his
ancestor, Clow Reed. But when Syaoran breaks the cycle, Fei Wang uses Sakura's powers
to destroy much of the world's logic until Clone Sakura and Clone Syaoran intervened
and Fei Wang's plan is defeated with most of the damage he caused undone.

In chapter 230, through an epic battle between the two Tsubasas, Syaoran, Sakura, Fay
and Kurogane, Fei Wang was successufully defeated by a final slash from Kurogane.
However, before he disintegrated, he revealed to Syaoran that they were the same—that
is, they were both created beings. The reason of Fei Wang's existence was to resurrect
Yūko and tell her something that has not yet been revealed.

[edit] Xing Huo

Fei Wang's assistant. Not much about her is known besides the fact she is Fei Wang's
assistant and was somewhat also a "failed creation". However, as the story progresses her
character has more depth. In Volume 15 of the manga, she helps the real Syaoran go to
Yūko after he awakened (Volume 09 of ×××HOLiC), but stated she can only do it once.
Her reason to him was, "The dream has to end." She is killed by Fei Wang shortly
afterward, using the same blade used to kill Kurogane's mother. Her helping Syaoran was
inevitable, as Fei Wang Reed states, "Considering your origins, I suppose it couldn't have
been helped." In Chapter 178 she made an appearance in a flashback of her and Fei Wang
while he was explaining the clone soul of Sakura, along with other girls who are also
crossover characters from other Clamp works. Xing Huo is voiced by Sanae Kobayashi in
Japanese and Laura Bailey in English.

[edit] Kyle Rondart

An agent of Fei Wang Reed, first introduced in Jade Country as the good doctor who was
helping the village with their problems around the time the children started vanishing. He
seems kind and sincere at first, but we later find out that through hypnotism he was the
one that sends the children (most of them his patients) to the old castle to dig out Sakura's
feather. He re-appears in Piffle World as the very same person, knowing that Syaoran and
his friends will likely assume he is just another incarnation of himself. In Piffle World he
tries to sabotage the race to get Sakura's feather, but later escapes without it. Kyle
returned in Nihon, kidnapping the Clone Sakura's body and taking the feather after her
soul was destroyed. Upon his leaving, Syaoran desperately calls out for him to wait, but it
is too late. In chapter 211 he is seen along with Fei Wang and Clone Sakura's body. When
the Tsubasa group finally reach Fei Wang's hiding place, Kyle is sacrificed to protect his
master. Kyle Rondart is voiced by Mitsuru Miyamoto in Japanese and Troy Baker in
English.

[edit] Recurring characters

[edit] Yūko Ichihara

Main article: List of xxxHolic characters

Also known as the Dimensional Witch or the Space-Time Witch; she resides in modern
day Japan, but her shop is technically connected to all dimensions, including into dreams.
She owns a shop in ×××HOLiC, which can grant people their wishes if they can pay the
equivalent price. Although Yūko is extremely powerful, to the point of being able to
create gods, she cannot act without the request of another beforehand, regardless of
whether the events she wishes to pass are selfless or not. She works against Fei Wang
Reed. Yūko is revealed to have suffered a fate exactly the same as the original Sakura in
that her own time had been stopped to prevent her death. She breaks Sakura and Syaoran
(The male Tsubasa's parents) from the 'world' they were in (the tube in her shop), saying
that she will pass on their power. After playing her part to help the Tsubasa crew against
Fei Wang Reed, her time begins to move again, bringing an end to her life. Yūko Ichihara
is voiced by Sayaka Ohara in Japanese and Colleen Clinkenbeard in English.

[edit] Kimihiro Watanuki

Main article: Kimihiro Watanuki

Yūko's employee whose story is told in ×××HOLiC is deeply connected with the events
in Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE. He was present when the clone Syaoran and his
party first arrived at Yūko's shop and had conversations with the clone Sakura during his
dreams. After escaping his confinement, the male Tsubasa was one of the three people
who paid a price to save his life after he suffered a serious accident. Watanuki and
Tsubasa were originally the same being, Watanuki being created when Tsubasa paid the
price for turning back time, a dimensional rift being created because of this, Watanuki
was then born to Tsubasa's parents instead of him, while he was taken hostage by Fei
Wang, until his payment for the wish was fulfilled. Watanuki has paid all of his memories
from before meeting Yūko as a price to locate both Sakura and the female Tsubasa. In the
end, Watanuki paid a price: to never be able to leave the shop to break the curse that Fei
Wang created. Watanuki is voiced by Jun Fukuyama.

[edit] Seishirō

Main article: Seishirō Sakurazuka

A mysterious traveler from Syaoran's past who also gained the power to travel between
worlds from Yūko. He is currently searching for the vampire twins and, like his younger
brother, he is a treasure hunter, not a vampire hunter like originally believed. His abilities
include summoning Oni to fight for him. He is able to perform these abilities with the
help one of Sakura's feathers, which Syaoran failed to retrieve in their encounter in Ōto
country. An experienced fighter, Seishirō was also the one to teach Syaoran his kicking
techniques, and apparently can kick just as well.

He first appears in Chapter 41, and later during the Nihon Country arc, discovering that
Fay had vampire blood. Initially he thought Fay and his friends knew the location of
Subaru, but found they didn't. With this revelation, he intended to leave Nihon, but was
challenged by Tsubasa for the feather. Seishirō remarks how Tsubasa is like his father,
Syaoran, implying that he knew Tsubasa was the son of his own clone. After Syaoran
unleashed his ultimate spell (all four of his elemental spells combined) on Seishirō, he
reclaimed the feather and was sent into dreams alone to rescue Sakura's soul. With this,
he reveals to Fūma and the others that he was planning on giving the feather to him
anyway and starts revealing a kinder, nonviolent side of himself to Fay and Kurogane. He
then starts a conversation with them about how dangerously powerful Syaoran is
becoming; but not before he tells them that Tsubasa is becoming more powerful as well.
Seishirō is a crossover character from Tokyo Babylon and X. Seishirō is voiced by Hiroki
Touchi in Japanese and J. Michael Tatum in English.

[edit] Fūma

Main article: Characters of X (manga)#Fūma Monō

Seishirō's younger brother, who is also a treasure hunter and apparent leader of the people
of Tokyo Tower. He arrived in Tokyo four years earlier along with a feather of Sakura's.
Little is known about him currently, but he does appear to have an interest in Kamui and
he seems to be friends with Yūko, for whom he retrieves items for whenever he traverses
to different dimensions. Fūma later appeared in Nihon Country to give Kurogane a
robotic arm. He then stayed to witness the battle between his brother and Tsubasa.
Afterward, he teased his brother about his strange actions. Fūma is a cross-over of
character from X. In X, he and Seishirō are not blood related. The relationship between
Fūma and Kamui is roughly the same in Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle as they share in X.
Fūma is voiced by Yūji Kishi.

[edit] Princess Tomoyo

Main article: List of Cardcaptor Sakura characters#Tomoyo in Tsubasa

The princess of a feudal country called Nihon who sends the ninja Kurogane on the quest
that causes him to join the dimension travelers. Tomoyo is the Tsukuyomi, a powerful
miko sorceress responsible for maintaining the wards of Nihon that protect the country
from demons. She is also a dreamseer with the ability to see into other people's, to enter
another's dreams, can send trans-dimensional messages through dreams and is able to see
the future in her dreams. However, she gave up her dreamseer power to Yūko as the price
for bringing Kurogane, Fay, Tsubasa and Mokona to Nihon. Another incarnation of her
appears in Piffle World, where she retains much of her nature from Tomoyo Daidōji in
Cardcaptor Sakura. A crossover character from Cardcaptor Sakura. Tomoyo is voiced by
Maaya Sakamoto in Japanese and Amber Cotton in English.

[edit] King Ashura

The King of Celes raised Fay after rescuing him from the tower in Valeria. Fay then later
places Ashura in an enchanted sleep, as seen at the beginning of Tsubasa, and transforms
Chī to serve as Ashura's guard. Ashura is the reason why Fay seeks to travel to multiple
dimensions and avoids returning to Celes. Fay, at one point, says that Ashura 'took him
out' of someplace, later revealed to be the place Fay (then Yūi) and his twin were
imprisoned in their native country. King Ashura finally wakes up from his sleep in
chapter 140. It is then revealed that Ashura regularly went on killing sprees among his
subjects, and he intended to invoke Fay's curse (which is to kill anyone stronger than
himself) to kill him. He placed a tattoo on Fay which would prevent the growth of his
powers, while his own grew with every murder, and he would one day be stronger than
Fay. He is later killed by a combined effort from Syaoran, Fay, and Kurogane.

King Ashura is a crossover character from RG Veda and should not be mistaken for
another crossover character from RG Veda, Ashura-ō of Shura Country, who is this
Ashura's son in RG Veda. (Ashura-ō means King Ashura and is a title also used as a name
in RG Veda, which both of these characters bear, though there the son is usually referred
to as "Ashura".)

[edit] Clow Reed

Main article: List of Cardcaptor Sakura characters#Clow in Tsubasa

The sorcerer who is tied to the storyline, but does not appear directly as he is already
deceased before the story begins. Clow Reed was the creator of the Clow Cards and the
original Sealing Wand (as seen in Cardcaptor Sakura' volume 1) and the co−creator of
the two Mokona-Modoki. A crossover character from Cardcaptor Sakura. He and Yūko
appear to have had a strained but close relationship. It is later revealed in chapter 220 of
the manga that Clow indirectly wished for Yūko to be saved for she was dying. Due to
his immense magical power that wish was granted even though he did not wish it to be.
This sets a chain of events that causes the Kingdom of Clow's Fujitaka and Nadeshiko's
fate to change, the former becoming the clone Syaoran's adoptive father and the latter
dying. Clow Reed himself becomes the clone Sakura's father to guide her. Because of his
indirect wish, Fei Wong Reed was apparently created to complete the wish.

[edit] Other characters

[edit] Clow Country

[edit] Tōya
The older brother of Princess Sakura and the young king of the Kingdom of Clow. He is a
capable and responsible monarch who, like his counterpart in Cardcaptor Sakura, is
rather protective of his younger sister and dislikes Syaoran mostly because Tōya is aware
that Sakura and Syaoran are fated to be together. Another version of Tōya appears as a
waiter at a restaurant in the Hanshin Republic, the first world that Syaoran and his friends
arrive at after their journey begins. Tōya is voiced by Shinichiro Miki in Japanese and
Eric Vale in English.

[edit] Yukito

The kind and respectful High Priest of Clow Country and a close friend of Tōya, much
like in Cardcaptor Sakura. After Sakura, he has considerable magical powers, including
the ability to see into the future, thus the reason why he was chosen to become the
country's high priest. He is one of the few people who know Yūko Ichihara as the Witch
of Dimensions and is responsible for sending Syaoran and Sakura to her in hopes of
recovering Sakura's scattered memories. Along with Tōya, another version of Yukito
appears as a waiter at a restaurant in the Hanshin Republic. Yukito is voiced by Kōki
Miyata in Japanese and Robert McCollum in English.

[edit] Koryo Country

[edit] Chu'nyan

A fiery young girl who dares to oppose the corrupt Ryanban, a government official, and
his son. Chun'nyan's mother was a powerful sorceress, but was unfortunately defeated by
the Kiishim, a sorceress under the control of the Ryanban. Though determined to free her
village from the Ryanban, Chu'nyan must accept relying on the strength of Syaoran and
his friends to defeat her enemies, though Chu'nyan finds a way to help them deliver the
final blow. Chu'nyan is a titular character from CLAMP's interpretation of The Legend of
Chun Hyang. Chu'nyan is voiced by Shizuka Itō in Japanese and Luci Christian in
English.

[edit] Kiishim

A powerful and dangerous sorceress from another world, she is unwillingly forced to
serve the Ryanban, whom she despises, because of a gemstone placed on her head.
Because of her magical powers, the Ryanban's castle is nearly impenetrable and the
Kiishim has already killed the most powerful sorceress in the area, Chun Hyang's mother.
After she is freed from the Ryanban's control by Kurogane, she quickly turns against her
former master and his son. Before leaving for her own world, she expresses to Chun
Hyang the respect she felt for Chun Hyang's mother and encourages her to be strong. The
Kiishim is based on Debonair, a sorceress who appears only in the anime adaption of
Magic Knight Rayearth. Kiishim is voiced by Masako Katsuki in Japanese and Luci
Christian in English.

[edit] Shara/Shura Country

[edit] Ashura-ō

The patron god of the performers of the Yuuka District, led by a strong-willed young
woman named Suzuran. However, Ashura-ō's statue supposedly brings calamity to the
Shara Country, much to Suzuran's grief. When Syaoran and Sakura are suddenly
transported to the past, they learn that Ashura-ō was the leader of a clan in opposition to
the clan of Yasha-ō, whom Ashura-ō cared a great deal for. Like several other characters,
Ashura-ō is able to contact Yūko Ichihara in order to fulfill a wish. Because of Syaoran's
actions in the past, the circumstances that divided Ashura-ō and Yasha-ō in the present are
resolved and create a different Shara upon their return to the present. Ashura-ō is based
on the genderless protagonist of RG Veda. Ashura-ō is voiced by Takako Honda in
Japanese and Tiffany Grant in English.

[edit] Yasha-ō

The patron god of the shrine in the Shara Country, protected by an even-mannered priest
named Sōseki. Inexplicably, the statue of Yasha-ō cries tears of blood each time a disaster
in Shara occurs and the phenomenon is blamed on the Ashura-ō statue in the Yuuka
District. In the past, Yasha-ō had been killed by Ashura-ō, but Ashura-ō in his grief had
wished for Yasha-ō to continue existing, forcing an unfortunate war between their clans
to continue. When Ashura-ō's true wish is finally granted, Syaoran and his friends' actions
change the past and result in the two statues of Ashura-ō and Yasha-ō to remain together,
bringing the performers of the Yuuka District and men at the shrine to live together
peacefully under the patronage of both gods. Yasha-ō appears as a main character in RG
Veda, where he also shared a close relationship with Ashura-ō. Yasha-ō is voiced by
Yasunori Masutani in Japanese and Robert McCollum in English.

[edit] Tokyo

[edit] Subaru

Main article: Subaru Sumeragi

One of the vampire twins that Seishirō is hunting, he seems to be the only one whom
Seishirō is interested in. Upon arriving in the world of Tokyo, Subaru fell asleep and does
not awaken until Syaoran and his friends arrive. He is the protagonist of the manga Tokyo
Babylon and also plays an important role in X where he is one of the Seven Seals. Subaru
is voiced by Hiro Shimono.

[edit] Kamui

Main article: Characters of X (manga)#Kamui

The other of the vampire twins whom Seishirō is hunting. His true identity is revealed
when he attacks Syaoran's clone in an attempt to use his blood to awaken Subaru. Kamui
is originally the protagonist in the manga X. He and Subaru gained the power to traverse
dimensions together from Yūko.

It should be noted that while Subaru really had a twin in the original Tokyo Babylon and
X stories, it was not Kamui; in fact Subaru and Kamui were not even of the same age.
Instead, Subaru had a twin sister named Hokuto, who, even though she was a major
character in Tokyo Babylon and also appeared In X, has yet to make an appearance in
Tsubasa. Kamui is voiced by Mamoru Miyano.

[edit] Anime only

[edit] Chaos

Chaos (Pronounced Ka-os), a king from a Chinese-like kingdom. He is described as a

King who has powerful magic, who brought peace to his land. When the group arrives, he
introduces himself as an old friend of Sakura. He gives Sakura a handful of her feathers,
which turnout to be fake, full of fake memories about their relationship in the past. The
purpose for giving her fake memories was to separate her from the others, especially
Syaoran, and take their places in her heart. When his fake feathers are found out, he
challenges Syaoran to a battle. During the battle, he questions Syaoran on why he is
willing to search for Sakura's feathers and to stay by her side. Syaoran is silent until
Chaos reveals that he 'truly' loves the princess. Towards the end of the battle, he becomes
a large, beautiful bird. He is defeated, and Sakura realizes that he is actually herself, a
sphere of many of her feathers. Chaos is voiced by Kenshō Ono in Japanese and Josh
Grelle in English.

[edit] Crossover characters

Using the ideas of Osamu Tezuka and his Star System, the series contains various
crossover characters from many of Clamp's series, including most notably Cardcaptor
Sakura, RG Veda, X/1999 and ×××HOLiC from which the main characters are derived.[4]
Wish and Shirahime-shō are the only Clamp titles to not have a crossover with either
×××HOLiC or Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle. Miyuki of Miyuki-chan in Wonderland
appears in almost all the major worlds the group visits usually with a piece of toast in her
mouth or another bread product. As Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle takes place in a
fictional multiverse, almost all the characters seen are not the same as the characters from
their original works, although they do have the same personality and relationships with
other characters. However one of the universes (out of the many that the protagonists
visit) takes place in the same fictional universe as ×××Holic, Magic Knight Rayearth and
Cardcaptor Sakura; thus the Yūko, Watanuki, Maru, and Moro are in fact the same
characters as their counterparts. Sakura Kinomoto appears briefly in a flashback during
chapter 217, wherein she gives her staff to the male Tsubasa's mother, thereby debunking
the popular theory that his parents were the Cardcaptor Sakura versions of the characters.

Gosick (GOSICK -ゴシック- Goshikku?) is a Japanese light novel series by Kazuki

Sakuraba, published by Fujimi Shobo. Set in a fictional European country in 1924, a

to sleep. Her brother, a policeman, relies on her mind to solve difficult mysteries, several
of which draw her away from the library.

Tokyopop released the first novel in the series in English in April 2008[1] and the second
in March 2010. The series is being published in Germany by Tokyopop since November
2006.[2] A manga adaptation started serialization in the shōnen manga magazine Monthly
Dragon Age on December 9, 2007. An anime adaptation by Bones is in the works.

[edit] Plot and settings

Gosick takes place in 1924 in a small, made-up European country of Sauville. The story
centers on Kazuya Kujo, the third son of a Japanese Imperial soldier, who is a transfer
student to St. Marguerite Academy, where urban legends and horror stories are all the
rage. There he meets Victorique, a mysterious yet beautiful and brilliant girl who never
comes to class and spends her days reading the entire content of the library or solving
mysteries that even detectives can't solve. The series mostly focuses on Kazuya and
Victorique getting involved in different mystery cases and their struggle to solve them, at
the same time forming important bonds with different people.

[edit] Characters
Kazuya Kujo (久城 一弥 Kujō Kazuya?)
Voiced by: Miyu Irino (Drama CD)

The main character of the story. As the youngest son of a soldier, Kazuya has spent most
of his life struggling with living in his highly successful siblings' shadows. Jealous of all
the attention his brothers got, he worked hard to compete, but everything changed when
he understood that adults, who think that the youngest child is always spoiled and useless,
will never acknowledge his efforts. With a permanent scar in his heart he left the military
academy in Japan and before anyone from his family could stop him, went to study
abroad to St. Marguerite. Unfortunately, his appearance, combined with the student
body's belief that "the traveler who comes in the spring brings death with him" has
resulted in Kazuya being called the "Reaper" and having no friends. By some twist of fate
he becomes a messenger and companion to the most eccentric pupil in the school,
Victorique. At first he didn't like Victorique because of her arrogant attitude, but after
some time he started to care for her and be protective of her. He is described, by
Victorique, as a good and sincere person whose soul is pure and beautiful enough to
admit pride. Despite everything that happened in Japan he is proud to be a soldier's son.

Victorique de Blois (ヴィクトリカ・ド・ブロワ Vikutorika do Burowa?)

Voiced by: Chiwa Saitou (Drama CD)

The heroine of the story. Victorique has the appearance of a small, almost doll-like, girl
with long hair and emerald eyes and a voice that sounds exactly like that of an old
woman. Another important part of Victorique's appearance is a pipe that she smokes
when thinking about something. Along with her sharp tongue, abusive bluntness and
eccentric attitude, she possesses amazing detective skills and Kazuya soon finds himself
getting dragged into many crime investigations after a near-arrest that Victorique saved
him from. Because of her half aristocratic blood and behavior different from other
children she was raised cut off from the world in the depths of the de Blois mansion. And
then she was sent off to school, under strict orders to never leave the campus. When she
first met Kazuya she didn't like him and thought that he was annoying and stupid for
climbing up all the stairs in the library, even going as far as ignoring him or making fun
of him, but gradually she warmed up to him and began to trust and cherish him.

Grevil de Blois (グレヴィール・ド・ブロワ Gurevīru do Burowa?)

Voiced by: Takehito Koyasu (Drama CD)

Grevil is an aristocrat who had forced the local police to make him a detective purely
because he had an interest in crime. The most noticeable thing in his appearance is his
drill-like hairstyle that Kazuya thinks could be used as a deadly weapon. Despite being a
terrible detective and always having to rely on Victorique to solve his crimes, he refuses
to acknowledge she even exists. That is because he is Victorique's half brother and even if
they are family they could never acknowledge each other in public. His mother was their
father's proper wife and because he is the eldest son he takes all the glory for solving
crimes and will take over after their father dies. He is described by Victorique as a heel
and a playboy.

Avril Bradley (アブリル・ブラッドリー Aburiru Buraddorī?)

Voiced by: Tomoko Kawakami (Drama CD)
An international student from Great Britain. Because she and Kazuya were both from
abroad, they quickly found common ground and were able to talk freely. A beautiful girl
with short blond hair and blue eyes. It is hinted that she has feelings for Kazuya.

Cecile Lafitte (セシル・ラフィット Seshiru Rafitto?)

Voiced by: Yui Horie (Drama CD)

A teacher in St. Marguerite Academy. A small woman with a baby face, fluffy brown hair
and big round glasses.

[edit] Light novels

There are nine light novels out in total for Gosick. Like many Japanese series, the
chronology is a little confusing, since there are both novel length works and short story
collections, which were published out of chronological order. The Gosick novels are full
length works, and the GosickS books are short story collections. The series was authored
by Kazuki Sakuraba with illustrations by Hinata Takeda. The first novel was released in
Japan on December 10, 2003 and the last one on April 10, 2007. Tokyopop licensed the
novels for the US market.

[edit] Reception
Anime News Network's Carlo Santos commends the light novels for "a mysterious,
elegant atmosphere and an intricate plotline make this a thrilling read from start to
finish". However, he criticises the light novels for "flashback scenes [that] never really fit
in, and the final conclusion is rather far-fetched".[3]

"Takeda has a clean drawing style and uses a mix of crosshatching and tone work for the
black-and-white drawings. Character designs are about average with large round faces
and large round eyes for the teenage characters and narrower eyes for most of the adults.
She puts in a lot of details into Victorique fluffy, frilly dress (lots of lace, ribbons, bows,
and buttons) while Kazuya's suits and the adults' eveningwear are much simpler.
Backgrounds, whether seaside backdrops or garish interiors, are also carefully detailed." -
Sakura Eries, Mania.com[4]
