Convert existing open canal to box drain

1. Construct temporary drain

 Apply for TOL;

 Method statement submission and approval;

 Survey to mark the alignment and proposed temporary drain;

 Install sheet pile

 Excavate to required level;

 Lay and compact hardcore;

 Lean concrete

 Connect back to existing drain

2. Demolish existing canal

 Engage a PE to design the sequence of work;

 PE shall apply and obtain clearance from BCA for this demolition work;

 Hoarding to be erected to demarcate the working area;

 Warning signboard to be erected outside the working area;

 Safety netting to be erected to catch any flying debris;

 Permit-to-work system to be implemented for this work;

 Commence demolition for the existing open drain;

 Debris would be gathered using excavators;

 Debris would then be disposed off-site using tipper trucks;

 Spray water to eliminated any excessive dust generated from the works;

 The ground would then be backfilled and levelled;

3. Construct new box drain

 Surveyor to mark the alignment and invert level of proposed box drain

 Install of ERSS e.g. sheet piling, open cut etc;

 Excavation and construction of ERSS until required level;

 Carry out piling work;

 Lean concrete on excavated surface;

 After lean concrete has set, reinforcement bar (rebar) works shall proceed for
the base slab;

 Rebar works shall then continue for the drain wall;

 Formwork would be installed for the base slab and wall kicker;

 Water stop would be installed at the wall kicker;

 Concreting would then proceed for the base slab and wall kicker;

 Formwork and concreting would then for the rest of the drian wall until the top
slab level;

 Falsework would then be erected to support the construction of top slab;

 Rebar works would proceed for the top slab;

 After rebar works have completed, concreting would proceed for the slab;

 After the slab concrete has gained sufficient strength, the falsework would be
dismantled and removed;

 Backfilling will the proceed, follow by removal of ERSS;

 The ground would then be backfilled and levelled;

 Connect back to the existing drain. Demolish the temporary drain.
