ACTIVITY 3
FUN WALK

Objectives:
In this activity you should be able to gather data to determine who walks
fastest. And calculate the speed of the members of your group.

Materials:
Timer, meterstick

Procedures:
1. Start by choosing a spacious place to walk straight.
2. Half of the group will walk while the other half will observe and record data.
3. Mark on the ground the starting line. All participants must start from the
starting line at the same time.
4. Upon receiving the go signal, all participants must start to walk as fast as
they could. The other members should observe closely as the participants
walk and determine who walks fastest.
5. Repeat #4 but this time, collect data to support your conclusion. Discuss
within your group how you are going to do this.

Table 1. To calculate the speed of the walking members of the group.

Distance walked Speed = distance
Name of the
by the member Time taken (s) (m)
Member
(m) / time taken (s)

Guide questions:
1. Which member walks the fastest? How about the slowest?

______Answers may vary______________________________________

2. How did you determine who walks the fastest? The slowest?

_______We determined who walks the fastest and the slowest by dividing the distance
travelled by each member by their time of travel. The fastest participant was the one with
the highest computed value while the slowest got the lowest computed
value.________________
3. How are time and distance related to speed?

____ Distance and time tells you how far an object travels from one place to the other
and how long it takes. It helps you calculate how fast someone or something
travels.____________

Conclusion:
________In conclusion, you can determine the speed of an by knowing the distance
travelled and the time it takes to travel from one place to another.__________________
