Activity 2 – Prelim

Instruction: Read and analyze the problems below. Show your complete solution including the formula.
Round off your answers to four decimal places. BOX YOUR FINAL ANSWERS.

Part I. GEW and mEq

1. Identify the factor and compute for the GEW and mEq of the following:
a. Barium sulfate
b. Calcium carbonate
c. Sodium bicarbonate
d. Sodium hydroxide
e. Potassium biphthalate
f. Sodium chloride
g. Magnesium carbonate
h. Nitric acid
i. Acetic acid
j. Magnesium hydroxide

Part II. Normality and Molarity

1. Calculate molarity of solution made by dissolving 105 g of magnesium chloride in sufficient
water to make 1600 mL solution.
2. Calculate the normality of the above solution.
3. Calculate the amount of potassium hydroxide needed to prepare 1900 mL of 5.011 M solution.
4. How would you prepare 2.0 L of 0.15 M KOH from the pellets? Express your answer in grams.
5. How would you prepare 2.0 L of 0.200 M HCl from a reagent that has a density of 1.0579 g/mL
and is 11.50% HCl (w/w)? Express you answer in mL.
6. Calculate the molarity and normality of the following:
a. 150 mg of H2SO4
b. 100 mg of Ca(HCO3)2
c. 70 mg of H3PO4
7. A solution is formed by adding 7.4 g of Ca(OH)2 to 500 mL of solution. What is the molarity?
8. How many grams of potassium nitrate, KNO3, are required to make 250 mL solution with a
molarity of 0.40 M?
9. What is the molality of a solution of 60 g of NaOH and 2000 g of water?
10. If exactly 3.0 g of Na2CO3 is dissolved in 25 mL of water, what will be the normality of the solution?
