estaurants across the nation compete for whose break-
fast menus can attract the masses, but as widely-loved

Portland, Oregon in 1953 by
Les Highet and Erma Hueneke.

 RESTAURANT THIEF
STOPPED
BY PHILIBERT
SYSTEM
T
here must be a different brand of burglars
out in the world today. Some prefer hous-
es, others specialize in businesses. One
area restaurant thief was caught and appre-
hended after attempting to break into and rob
Massa’s Restaurant located in Bridgeton after
reportedly repeating the same exact process
with another Bridgeton restaurant (unfortunate-
ly not protected by Philibert.) Apparently more
than one district police department had been
keeping their eyes peeled for this suspect, for
multiple police departments arrived on the
scene after the incident.
On the evening of July 13, 2009, the thief
heaved a rock through the front window of the
Bridgeton Massa’s Restaurant and entered
through the shattered glass. The sound alerted
Philibert’s glass break detectors and, needless to
say, the monitoring station received the signal
and the police were dispatched immediately.
The suspect evidently believed he had time
enough to get what he needed and vamoose so
he headed straight for the cash register. The
apparently inexperienced thief didn’t realize
that no business leaves the register full during
closing hours. The thief broke into the register
and found it empty.
With no score, the suspect ran for his vehicle
and off down the street and almost literally ran
straight into Bridgeton police on their way to
the scene. St. Ann police also arrived on the
scene right away.
“We had heard that St. Ann was looking for
him, too.” said Jack Massa, operator and owner
of all Massa’s Restaurant establishments.
“Apparently he used the same method with
another restaurant in St. Ann, and who knows
how many others.”
Massa’s Restaurant is known specially for
their highly-acclaimed Italian menu. Their
extensive menu includes many items, ranging
from a delicious artichoke and spinach bake
appetizer to their famous Beef Pepe, one of the
most attractive items on the menu. Massa’s has
three locations in the St. Louis area: Bridgeton,
Kirkwood and Ellisville.
