1. INVESTIGATION STAGE
Situation analysis
As a group we have to build a crane. The product will be used on the 22 nd of October 2010. The crane
will be used in the technology classroom. The crane is a model that is needed mostly by construction
companies when they are building buildings or when lifting or moving heavy things. The crane will work
manually and hydraulics will be used to produce the output. Join the car pieces using nails and wood
glue to make a car.
Design Brief
I and my group have to design and make a crane using the wood and hydraulics system using syringes,
we will design/make the crane to be able o uplift a load and a buzzer to indicate if the load is too much
for the crane

Function of cranes
Cranes are big machines which is used for lifting heavy weights. It is mostly used in construction and
transportation industries because it uses systems and controls that make it possible for it to great
mechanical advantage.
Suitable material
For our crane we used wood, wood glue, nails, syringes, pipes,

Firstly we cut a big block of 70mm X mm for our base. Then we cut another two pieces of mm X
mm X mm for the sides of the car. And cut another two pieces for the front and back
sides of the car of mm X mm X mm. Cut a plank that is mm X
mm X mm for the base of the boom. Then cut a plank of mm X mm X
mm for the first boom. Cut out mm X mm X mm for the
second boom hand. Join the car parts using wood glue and
