6 Australia’s Pattern of Climate


and Vegetation
Q1. The size and location of Australia ensures the reason of it
having a wide range of climates. The main reason why Australia
experiences dry weather is due to the high pressure systems
that flow through Australia.

Q3.a)The high pressure systems move across Australia from


west to east passing Sydney and Canberra.

Q4.a)In January the average rainfall begins at Darwin with an


average rainfall of 0 to 10 then gradually increases when
traveling north- west to Adelaide and reaches an average
rainfall of over 400.

b) At Brisbane in January the average rainfall is 200 to 400 and


drops when travelling south-west towards Perth, where the
average rainfall is 0 to 10.

c)The average rainfall in Hobart in the month of July is 25 to 50


and stays around that average when reaches Melbourne,
however as you continue to travel north-west in the direction of
Darwin the average rainfall reduces to No rain, which covers a
large area North of Australia.

Q6.The vegetation from Adelaide to Darwin is mixed and has


many different vegetation types such as Mallee scrubs, Mulga
scrubs ,saltbush, Heath and dry grass land- long tussock grass.

Q7.a) The climate in Alice Springs is dry as the temperature is


high in the beginning but drops then goes back up towards the
end of the year.
b) The climate in Alice springs is dry and the temperature is hot
in January, February, March, October, November and December.
Therefore the climate in those months are extremely hot and
dry how ever in the other months it is cold but still dry.

1. Darwin: The climate varies as there is more rainfall in


some months and is very low in others therefore the
climate varies from warm but can be cold in the middle of
the year.
2. Brisbane: In Brisbane the climate has an average rainfall
around 200 and the temperature and the tempreture is
between 10 to 30 degrees celcuis meaning it’s pretty
average but can be cold.

b) 1. Darwin: In the begginig of the year in January to March


there is a high average rainfall and at the end of the year
there is also a high average rainfall in October to December
however there is an extremely low average rainfall in the
middle of the year. The temperature is pretty high
throughout the year reaching average temperatures of 20-30
degrees

2. Brisbane the average rainfall is pretty high at the


beginning of the year where it is around 15mm and drops
slowly to 3 mm in September and the rises back to 10 mm in
October and November and 12mm in December. The
temperature starts of 20 degrees and drops 10 degrees in
June then rises back up by 10 degrees by December.
