Interpretation of Results

After conducting experiment 4 entitled “JFET Fundamentals”, we were able to gather the
following data and results:
 By observing the gathered data on Table 4-1a (Drain Supply vs. Drain Current with
Zero Gate Bias), we can say that as the Drain Supply increases the Drain Current also
increases, thus we can say that the the relationship between Drain Supply and Drain
current is directly proportional.
 For Table 4-1b (Drain Supply vs. Drain Current with Gate Bias), we have observed
from the gathered data that as the Drain Supply increases, Drain Current also
increases same as with the first table.
 Comparing the data for Table 1, the Gate Supply with the lowest voltage supply equal
to -3V, has the data with the Drain Current which changed the slowest compared with
-0.5 and 0 which has the Drain Current which changed the fastest among the three,
thus the lowest Gate Supply voltage has the most stable Drain Current value.
 The Unipolar voltage-controlled JFET is in reverse bias.
 Through observation of the data from Table 4-2 (Bias Control Data), we can say that
as the Gate Supply voltage decreases, the Gate-to-Source voltage also decreases as
well as the Drain Current, thus the relationship is directly proportional.
 By comparing the data for Table 2, for both the Drain Voltage equal to 4 and 8, the
value of the Drain Current decreased on the same proportion, thus regardless of the
Drain Supply Voltage, the Drain current decreases on the same proportion.

Conclusion
After conducting the experiment entitled JFET Fundamentals” and gathering data
and results, the following can be concluded:
The biasing circuit of a Field-Effect Transistor (FET) is the one of the two types
of a basic type transistor with the other one as the Bipolar Junction Transistor or the BJT.
Like the BJT, the FET also has three terminals namely the source, gate and drain with its
corresponding BJT terminals emitter, gate and base respectively. The gate voltage
controls the output drain current.
The Junction Field-Effect Transistor (JFET) is a depletion mode because applying
high reverse voltage through the gate and source cuts off the JFET.
When the Drain Supply increases, the Drain Current also decreases and vice
versa, thus the relationship of Drain Supply vs. Drain Current is directly proportional.
The Gate Bias determines with a lower voltage on the Gate Supply will have a
more stable change of drain current based on the observation of the gathered data where
the voltage equal to -3 has a more stable change on Drain Current compared to the -0.5
voltage.
The factors that alters the value of pinch-off voltage are the gate supply voltages
and drain supply voltages.
