EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
1.1 Name and Location
Our product, A – Light, is a luminous highlighter that uses a seed from a dried fruit of
atsuete for its pigmentation. The letter “A” came from the German word for atsuete which is
“Annatto” while the word “light” came from the product itself which is the highlighter. Annatto
tree is tropical plant popular for dying purposes due to its bright red seeds that gives off a red-
orange color used in many products usually in makeups. The dried annatto seeds have a
weak, perfumed odour while the fresh annatto seeds have an intense and mild–fruity scent.
The Vega Centre located near the University of the Philippines in Los Banos Laguna
was the best choice we had for our business location considering the type of product that we
were going to sell and the condition of the area. First of all, the area is a lively place filled with
stores, restaurants, schools, offices, and even subdivisions around it which makes it the
recourse for needs of the buyers. Second, the Vega Centre is located right before the U.P gate
and near the popular other businesses such as Starbucks, KFC, Mcdo, Paponies’ and many
more which makes it noticeable for the passersby. And third, it is accessible especially to the
students, villagers, office workers whose school, home, office is just around the area.

1.2 Products/Services Offered


This business proposal offers a product of highlighter whose tint will come from the
annatto seed. The annatto seed that came from a dried fruit of the annatto tree will be the main
ingredient of our very own ink for the A-light. The color will be extracted from the seed and will
be mixed with other ingredients such as glycerin, alcohol and .In the Philippines, atsuete are
commonly used as food coloring for kare-kare , kutsinta and many more.

1.3 Vision and Mission statement

Vision
We envision ourselves as entrepreneurs down-poured with knowledge, skills, and
innovativeness; essential for managing our small yet profitable business that was created to
give joy to the buyers by creating remarkable products. As the manufacturer of the A-light, we
envision our product to be an innovative, budget and quality wise highlighter loved by our
target markets.
Mission
As starter entrepreneurs, our very mission was to create an affordable and quality wise
product innovatively as we can while considering the current trends and likes of most of the
buyers. As the manufacturers of our product, we aim to lessen the use of chemicals in
manufacturing our product by using the Annatto seeds. With our product, we aim to encourage
the future entrepreneurs to lessen the use of chemicals on their products. The A-light is strived
to meet the current trends and likes of the society while having the great qualities of a well-
produced product.

1.4 Purpose of Plan


The A-light uses annatto seed obtained from the dried fruit of the annatto tree for its
pigmentation to lessen the use of chemicals added to the product. This business proposal
features the invention of the A-light, which uses atsuete for the tint of the highlighter to lessen
the use of harmful chemicals. The A-light was made without harmful chemicals compared to
commercial highlighters, and because the more innovative and quality wise products are
dominant nowadays, resulting to having the idea of making a highlighter from a plant.

Strategies to Appeal to Market


We have researched about the effective marketing strategies done in business and the
following are the possible market strategies that we will apply to our business.
Cause Marketing
In this strategy we will find a cause for our business. One example is that we will donate the
money that we are to gain from this business to the charities.

Direct Marketing
In this strategy we directly advertise/ promote our product to the customers with the use of
fliers or effective persuasive communication.

Word of Mouth Marketing


This strategy involves the passing of information from person to person by oral communication.
For this we would advertise our product by good-mouthing it to our acquaintances, friends, or
family.

our product. Nowadays many entrepreneurs’ uses social media marketing in advertising their
product as the rate of social media usage is high.

1.5 BUSINESS LOGO

Since the Annato seed’s colour is red/ orange, we used the colors red and orange as
the font colour for the name of the product along with the font style effect that the letters are
being highlighted. At the side of the brand name is the clipart of a highlighter and the swatch of
its tint.

2.1 Legal Structures

1. Stock Holder - . The primary responsibility of a stockholder involves taking the financial risk
of buying a share in a business's ownership and participating actively in the voting process.
2. Design Department - A design department manager oversees various creative and design
projects for an organization. They collaborate with other members of a design team, ensure
projects are cost-effective, and maintain an up-to-date understanding of their target market.
3. Planning Department - The Planning Department plays an administrative role. The
department staffs the project teams that develop the master plans, sector plans, and other
planning efforts that ultimately become the basis and guiding documents to help shape the
Regulating Plan discussions.
4. Designer - the role of designers has always been to translate and communicate the value of
a business idea to consumers
5. Business worker - A business worker object interacts with other business worker objects
and manipulates business entity objects in order to realize a business use-case instance.
6. Sales manager - A sales manager is responsible for meeting the sales targets of the
organization through effective planning and budgeting.
7. Finance manager - A Finance Manager distributes the financial resources of a company, is
responsible for the budget planning, and supports the executive management team by offering
insights and financial advice that will allow them to make the best business decisions for the
company.

Relaying customer and market information back to their organizations

2.2 Brief History


Highlighter is a variant of felt-tip pen with water-based ink that is used for marking of text. It
uses vivid, translucent color that makes text stand out more without obscuring it. It is very
popular with students who use them to mark important parts of text for easier learning.The first
two marker pens appeared in 1910 and 1926, respectively and were not sold commercially.
The first one was Lee Newman’s felt-tip marker and second one Benjamin Paskach’s "fountain
paintbrush" - a sponge-tipped handle with colors inside. Walter J. De Groft made a "marking
pen" in 1944 and would later sell it to become a “Sharpie” pen in 1964. But before Sharpie
appeared Sidney Rosenthal invented and started selling in 1953 a “Magic Marker”. The first
predecessor of a highlighter was invented by a Japanese inventor Yukio Horie of the Tokyo
Stationery Company, who developed in 1962 the first felt-tip pen that used water-based ink. It
was not made to highlight texts, but it inspired Carter’s Ink Company to, in 1963, start
manufacturing similar water-based Marker with translucent ink. It was sold under the name Hi-
Liter, and it worked on capillary action.

2.3 Overview of Product, Service, Customers, Suppliers


Our product A- Light aims to lessen the chemical content of a regular highlighter. The
product features Annato which is usually used as a food coloring. It will be sold for a very
affordable price for the students and other people who are in fond of using highlighters.The
service provides employee benefits insurance solutions for clients. A-light recognizes the
importance of the bigger picture having the best tools, resources, and overall capabilities, and
the importance of taking action to address a situation in advance. We take ownership in our
client’s benefit programs and will represent your interests in the marketplace as if they were
our own. We are designed with one goal in mind, to make the benefits program most effective
and efficient for our clients, employees, and financial executives. Nobody works harder that A-
Light on behalf of its client and we will show that dedication everyday

2.4 Financial or Market highlight Cash flows


Our capital money, Php 10, 000, would be used for buying the ingredients needed for the ink of
the highlighter, the expense for the store rent, the salary money for the workers and other
materials such as the container and cotton for the ink. The following would be the breakdown
of our expenses for our product.

There would be an excess of php 2, 900 from our capital which we would deposit at the bank.
2.5 Short/ Long Term Goals
In putting up this business, determination is our key to success. We are necessarily to
have a clear mindset in order to reach our business targets. As a stepping-stone, our short
term goal for our product is to be able to reach half of our capital within a year. For our long
term goals, we are looking forward for more opportunities such as having collaboration or
market- share goals for our product A-Light to be more accessible for other people to
familiarize on our product
