GSM Radio Combining Types – RUG 11

 Summary

There are four types of different configurations to use depending on preference.  Network Planning
The different configurations are given from how the transmit signals are combined. The
 Network Rollout
combining types to choose between: uncombined, combined and TCC / 4WRD.
Uncombined Mode  Core Activities

 Means that the GSM carriers are not subject to any combining at all. The output power
is 3.5 dB higher than combined mode.
 The drawback is that it requires more feeders and antennas compared with combined
mode.
 Uncombined mode is normally used for coverage applications such as rural, highway
and suburban environments. Uncombined capacity is added in steps of two carriers.
Configurations based on uncombined mode sometimes referred to as “Coverage
Mode”.
Combined Mode
 Means that the GSM carriers are subject to hybrid combining inside the RU. The
output power is reduced with 3.5 dB compared with uncombined.
 The advantage with combined mode is that it reduces the number of feeders and
antennas compared with uncombined mode.
 Combined mode is normally used in capacity applications such as dense urban, urban
and suburban environments. Combined capacity is added in steps of two carriers per
sector. Configurations based on combined mode are sometimes referred to as
“Capacity Mode”.

GSM Radio Combining Types – RUG 11

 Summary

 TCC / 4WRD  Network Planning

 Transmitter Coherent Combining and Four Way Receiver Diversity  Network Rollout
 Mode where two GSM carriers are coherently combined into one GSM carrier with 2.5
 Core Activities
dB higher output power than uncombined mode.
 Transmitter Coherent Combining is used for Downlink.
 Four Way Receiver Diversity is used for Uplink.
 4WRD is used on the uplink together with TMAs. The uplink improvements will then be
in the range of 3.4–5 dB. The configuration of TCC and 4WRD is sometimes referred
to as “Supreme Coverage Mode”.
 TMA supporting is ordered as a separate SW feature.

GSM Radio Configuration – RUS 01

 Summary

 Radio Unit Number per sector for RUS 01  Network Planning

 1 ~ 6 (For 1 or 2 sector configurations)  Network Rollout
 1 ~ 4 (For 3 sector configurations)
 Core Activities
 1 ~ 3 (For 4 sector configurations)
 1 ~ 2 (For 6 sector configurations)
 Output Power per Carrier for RUS 01
 Maximum Output Power of the RUS 01 is 60 W, measured at the Antenna reference
point.
 Output power options are handled by Activation
codes. Additional output power could be added
“Output Power Expansions”, without the need of
any additional HW.
 Number of Carriers per sector for RUS 01
 1 ~ 24 (For 1 or 2 sector configurations)
 1 ~ 16 (For 3 sector configurations)
 1 ~ 12 (For 4 sector configurations)
 1 ~ 8 (For 6 sector configurations)

ordered carriers are handled by Activation Codes. Minimum configuration is 1 carrier
per Radio Units. Additional carriers could be added later on as “Carrier Expansions”,
without the need of additional HW.
 Output Power per Carrier
 Maximum Output Power of the Radio Unit RUW is 60W, measured at the Antenna
reference point. If more than 1 carrier per sector is ordered, the maximum output
power is equally split between the carriers
 Output power options are handled by Activation codes. Additional output power
 could be added later on as “Output Power Expansions”, without the need of any

capacity for the first 6 cell-carriers and the second DUW for the additional ones,
maximum 12.  Core Activities

 Dual DUW configuration limit the space for transmission equipment to 1U. The
proposal is to use the BBU 6102 if more than 100 Ah and dual DUW are required.
Initially, maximum one DUW is available for MSSM Basic.

module. The channelized STM-1 is broken out into E1/T1s, which can be delivered to the
PDH electrical demarcation point.
 The TIU fits in the transmission space of the Macro RBS 6000 and two options exist:

Basic Package: up to 16E1 or T1

Extended package, for up to 16 E1/T1, which

enables to expand with Microwave links when
moving to IP-RAN (3 U high).
