To Whom It May Concern

I have known Jeremy for a period of almost a year. I am writing this letter of recommendation for Jeremy in the
capacity of his Cohort Leader and Instructor for the three courses that Jeremy was enrolled in for the academic
year 2018 – 19.
In this letter of recommendation, I will write about Jeremy’s teaching qualities in terms of his content
knowledge, acknowledgement to student diversity, classroom management and assessment. For the one year
that I have known Jeremy for, I have seen him as a strong student teacher who values and incorporates Common
Core standards in his teaching. His concrete understanding of the content makes it look like an easy task to
embed Common Core standards to application based lessons. During his student teaching, Jeremy was placed in
a very diverse, urban school. This helped him finesse his lesson plans according the diversity portrayed by his
students. He also found alternate ways to engage students. For one of his lessons, Jeremy used online games to
get his students engaged in the higher level questions (analyzing and synthesizing information) related to the
book they were currently reading. This not only solved the issue of classroom management but also engaged
students.
Just like sound understanding of content and acknowledgement to diversity is a must in teaching, assessment
also plays a significant role. All throughout his student teaching, Jeremy used a variety of formative and
summative assessments. In fact, as part of his Action Research, Jeremy investigated the impact of gamified
learning which allowed him to collect data in the form of surveys. The survey he developed not only asked
students about their perceptions on the online game they watched but also higher level questions that connected
the game to the book they were reading.
Overall, Jeremy has made excellent progress during his student teaching. He has an excellent aptitude towards
teaching and students. Jeremy will be asset to the institution wherever he teaches and will excel in his future as
an English teacher.
I wish him all the very best in his future endeavors.
