Safety instructions

Risks involved in operating the oily water separator


The OWS has been safety-tested and certified. If incorrectly installed or used,
risks may arise affecting:
• Life and limb of the installing staff;
• The OWS and other shipboard installations, and
• The efficient functioning of the OWS.

All staff dealing with installing the OWS or its electrical and hydraulic power must:
• Be properly qualified to perform their tasks, and
• Follow closely these instructions.

Sources of danger

DANGER!
Indicates immediate danger.
Ignoring this warning involves risking serious injury or death.
Electric voltage > 42 V
Direct contact with live parts may cause serious injury or
death.
Disconnect the power supply before working on electrical
installations (switch off at the main switch, remove or

The OWS works with an eccentric screw pump.
Do not touch the gear casing / stuffing box packing on the
rotating shaft! Doing so risks severe injuries to the fingers.

Hand injuries
The valves position 4; 5 and 15 up to R 1" are closed by a
tensed spring.
Disassemble very carefully to avoid having the spring jump
out and cause injury.

Corrosive substances
The OWS must be securely installed on a stable, horizon-
tal surface.
Allowing it to tip over would endanger life and limb.

Tipping over danger

CAUTION!
Indicates a possibly dangerous situation.
Ignoring this warning involves risking minor injury.
The OWS can be heated (either electrically or, e.g., by
steam).
Temperatures up to around 50 C. can then obtain in the
upper part, which could cause burns if touched.
