Goal #2:
My second goal is to
modify the Daily Five to
be used in the upper
grades in elementary
school.
I had observed a first grade
teacher for one of my
previous classes, and her
ELA block ran smoothly
with the use of the Daily 5
program.
My fourth grade cooperating
teacher also uses rotations
during the ELA block.
While she did encourage me
to add my own spin to the
way that the rotations were
run, it is the first year of
implementation with the
new Benchmark curriculum.
I love the curriculum and the
supplementary materials that
were available, but I was not
Goal #3:
Another goal that I plan to implement is to start a daily
journal along with accommodation tracking.
As a former educational aide in a resource room, I had to keep a
daily journal in a binder. After each group I met with, I had to
write about what went well, any challenges we worked through,
and how each student did. The students’ initials were used to
ensure their privacy.
I would like to begin keeping a similar record during my first
year of teaching, but I will add in a tracking sheet that shows
which accommodations have been tried or are being used with
individual students. As an EA, my journal helped me to notice
things such as patterns of behavior. As a first year teacher, it
might be helpful to go back and look through how the year has
progressed.
I want to add in the accommodating tracking because I currently
have a student who is being tested by the Student Support Team
at my school to determine if she is eligible for SPED services.

overlooked for years. I want to ensure that my future students
