Karen Sharp lives in a town of approximately 10,000 in Western Kentucky. There isn’t a
furniture store in the town and Karen in thinking about starting one. She has good business and
marketing skills and is confident she can run the store, but she’s not sure whether the furniture
store industry is a good industry to enter. Provide a suggestion/recommendation to Karen.

Your Task
Study environmental and business trends to assess the strength of the furniture market in general
and in her trade area specifically. Next, conduct a five-forces analysis. The five-forces model for
the furniture industry in general looks.

Please prepare a presentation based on your findings above and present in the class.
