Commute Probability

iPad App: Ideament

Directions
1. Read Khan Academy Probability Lesson and watch the first video.
2. Read Math Planet Lesson and watch the video.
3. Over two weeks, time how long it takes for you to get from where you live to school down to
the second. Also, each day record whether the Los Angeles Lakers won their game that day,
lost, or did not play. Use the notes app to record your data.
4. Organize this data into 3 groups of time. Try to make these groups have similar amounts of data
points in each.
5. Use Ideament to construct a mind map of the data. This starts with your school commute and
then expands to the three groups which each expand to whether the Lakers won, lost, or did not
play a game that day. Refer to example.
6. Inside each bubble write the data as a fraction and a percent.
7. At the end of each of your nine pathways calculate the percentage that each of those paths took
place.
8. Answer the questions below on a separate sheet of paper. The length of each answer depends
on the question. Use your best judgment, they do not all have to be complete sentences.
9. Email your teacher the data on the notes app as well as your mind map.
