The goal with this piece was to design a layout for a

magazine, essentially a mock for my next magazine. It

helped me decide on where my image would be, along
with where I wanted my headline, promotion and cover
lines to be placed. I looked into Vogue , Allure, Bazaar
and Teen Vogue to see how they laid out their magazine,
and to inspire myself . I really like these magazines, and
they generally do attract the female generation I am in.
This research allowed me to develop my own ideas and
I then proceeded to begin my mock up.

My first step was to color the background,

which I choose a light yellow for, that is a
suitable color as I then used a black font and
made the boxes light white . It was a good color
as it would, contrast with both. I colored the
background using the paint bucket tool, which I
also used when coloring the shapes I drew. My
next step was to create transparent layers
where I drew on boxes I initially planed to
place my headlines, cover lines and mast head .
Whenever I didn't like the placement of
anything, I would use the history tool to go
back and rethink the layout.
Afterwards I would begin to write what I
planned to place anywhere, I wrote them in
different fonts that I wanted their fonts to be. I
developed this idea front allure, teen vogue and
The New Yorker, as the do this too. I was
inspired by allure as they have a more formal
layout of their cover lines, but I really liked the
dramatic slanted headline of Look magazine. I
decided to place my headline like that, and for
it to cover a section of my main image, which
would be in the background. I liked how allure
and teen vogue formally had their coverlines
along the side of the magazine, so I decided for
my cover lines to resemble theirs. Initially I
wanted to make I also was inspired by the New
Yorkers very dramatic statement mast head,
that had the promo to one side in a circle shape,
tucked away slightly. I incorporated that into
my magazine cover.
