“The Development and Understanding of myself”

Understanding the Self is a core course subject that each College must take
whether they like it or not. The course deals with the nature of identity, as well as the
factors and forces that affect the development and maintenance of personal identity. This
course is intended to facilitate the exploration of the issue and concerns regarding self
and identity to arrive at a better understanding of oneself. It strives to meet this goal by
stressing the integration of the personal with the academic – contextualizing matters
discussed in the classroom and in the everyday experiences of students-making for better
learning, generating a new appreciation for the learning process, and developing a more
critical and reflective attitude while enabling them to manage their selves to attain a
better quality of life.
August 2018 as a first year college student under the Communication Department
took up this wonderful course as a serious and critical because of the professor. At first,
the thoughts given by my Psychometrician professor is hard to understand. But, it
triggered me to change my life and self as well in a day to day basis. Like the lessons
about Sigmund Freud that deals about conscious and sub-conscious mind and other
psychology terms.
Communication student like me realized that this course subject is greatly helping
my personal development although when I was in Senior High it was taught by our
teachers. Maybe it so hard to adjust at college because of the taught given by Sir.
Jonathan about psychology terminologies which is not my forte at all.
We are all lucky as the first batch of K-12 graduates and took this course because
this is the reality of the self four years after of our life in academe. I was lucky that
without the professor, myself will not be longer understand in midst of problems of a
teenagers in the society. It was greatly helpful that in each perspective given in each
lessons have significant effect even if it is small or big.
The Psychological perspective of self has a greatly impact by this course of the
semester. Since that this is Understanding the Self subject, it is also big help for everyone
to realize and think deeper for the good sake of the people in the society. I was a big
impact also in my decision making.
The course explores the modern view of the personality as a process, which
involves both conscious and unconscious phenomena. Among these personality
phenomena we are likely to meet all psychological spheres, that is: the sphere of
cognition, emotion, motivation and behavior. In the cognitive sphere there is learning of
certain behaviors, copying behaviors from others and creating one’s own behavioral
scenarios. Among emotional sphere we have emotions elicited by current situation, as
well as emotions linked to the genetic traits of personality. In motivational sphere there
are tendencies to certain behaviors, produced by the person’s needs, energetic resources
and possibilities. Among behavioral sphere, these different tendencies take effect, leading
to various outcomes and, in addition, affecting personality in return. I believe that “They
tried to bury us. They didn’t know we were seeds.”
