Hiring Personnel and Student Stakeholders

Norfolk Public Schools

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing in response to your newly posted position of School Counselor for the year 2019-2020. I am
particularly interested in working within your school district and feel strongly that my educations,
experiences, strengths, and skills would be an asset to your schools.

I am on the precipice of completing the MsEd School Counseling CACREP accredited program at Old
Dominion University. I will ceremonially graduate in May, and after completing a final class I will be
eligible for licensure August 2019. During my time in this program I was able to work in several Title 1
schools and gained exposure to the unique challenges and joys of working with this student population.
I have experience in positively impacting school culture through classroom lessons, small groups, and
genuine connections with students as well as other stakeholders to include, administrators, teachers,
and parents. Additionally, I have worked to develop my skills in crisis response, program development,
and data collection to ensure that the interventions put in place are valid and effective for student well-
being and academic success.

My previous experience in Human Resources and the customer service industry have provided me with
the time management, leadership and managerial skills that inform my service to students both
interpersonally and systematically.

I believe strongly in the need for the investment in children and the systems created to serve them. It is
my hope that I will be able to apply my ideal skills and experience to use in facilitating the growth and
development of children within your district.

Please contact me regarding any opportunities available to further discuss my strong commitment to
joining one of your school counseling teams. Thank you for your time in reviewing my application, I look
forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards,

Zuri Cannon
