Activity In this activity, the students will use an app known
as Google Docs. Google Docs is a well-known app
that allows students to create word documents,
excel sheets, PowerPoints, and much more. For this
activity, the students will use the feature
“PowerPoint”. First, students will be given a list of
research topics. For example: Civil War Battles,
Effects of Drug Abuse, Career (what that student
wants to be when they grow up), etc. Next, each
student will be assigned a laptop, so they can access
Google Docs. Once the students are on the app, they
will click on “create new PowerPoint”. As students
collect research they will enter it into their
PowerPoint slides. The students will organize their
research from multiple sources on each slide.
Research will include pictures, quotes, and

summarized material. As the student finishes their
research PowerPoint, they will share it to the
teacher’s email.

In this activity, the students will use the app called
Evernote on the school’s laptops. In groups of 3 or 4,
students will share each other’s writings in the
“work chat” window on the app. Here, the students
will be able to share writings and have the other
group members summarize the main idea of each
other’s papers.
The teacher will review how to use the app prier to
allowing students to use it. Instructions will be
printed out and placed on each student’s desk, so
they have a visual. The teacher will also show the
app up on the smartboard to walk through the
features of the app before having the students use
it.
