BACKGROUND
The holy Islamic month of Ramadan began on May 26th this
year 2017, and is set to end on June 24th. On this occasion
DailySocial.id, in cooperation with JakPat mobile survey app,
has taken the occasion to conduct a Ramadan-themed survey
to track digital consumer trends & attitudes.

Survey conducted with 1020 respondents sampled among


smartphone users throughout Indonesia.

shopping online at all for Ramadan

 There have been speculation that there


would be a rise in purchases of consumer
household electronics, and
smartphone/gadgets, during Ramadan,
but this survey at least reports that this is
not quite so.

THROUGH ON-LINE SERVICES
 There had been also speculation that the convenience of
on-demand online services would lead more consumers
to buy Sahur and Iftar meals through on-demand
services, but this also appears to not quite be the case.

 Only 25.20% of respondents report having ever bought


Sahur meal online, and for Iftar (fast-breaking) the
percentage reported is 35.78%.

Indonesians, particularly Muslims, have a yearly tradition called


“Mudik”, where those who have immigrated out of town (to a
bigger/different city/province) go back to visit their hometown at or
around the end of the Ramadan month.

It seems that most survey respondents (81.37%) have a


positive response to religious apps.
CONCLUSIONS
CONCLUSIONS
 Indonesian consumers for the most part respond
positively and/or have a positive sentiment towards
religion/spirituality-themed online apps & services.

 Time spent online reportedly increases during Ramadan,


and there are Ramadan-related promotions online which
attract consumers.

 ...But this does not necessarily translate to major


increases in consumer activity online, at least not directly.
Consumption would seem to increase, but is mostly
linked to general economic activity during Ramadan.
