COMPETITION RULES

A team may have up to 12 members. There are no


substitutions during competition. No one may take notes during
the question period. All students must remain at their designated
tables. Team members may not have any electronic devices
with them during the competition.

Teams are to check in 15 minutes prior to competition time.


Late arrivals will not be admitted to competition. Table selection
will be determined at check in.

Students will be escorted to and from the competition site


and the holding spot.

Teams will be proctored during the competition by adult


volunteers.

Spectators will not be admitted to the competition site.

Students have 30 seconds to answer each question after it


has been read and projected on the screen. Team members
may collaborate on the answers. The team captain, or
designee, is to record the answers for their team on the answer
sheet legibly. Questions may be repeated during a three-minute
“wrap-up” period at the end of the round of questions.

At the end of the competition period, teams will be ranked


according to their scores and 50% of the teams, or a minimum of
5 teams and a maximum of 12 teams at each grade level,

advance to the second round. The top three scoring teams will
be declared the competition “winners.”

Good sportsmanship will be shown at all times. If necessary,


team members will be removed from competition at the
discretion of the judges and/or chairperson. The principal of the
school will be notified. A team showing a lack of sportsmanship is
expected to write a letter of apology.
