    Vitamin D is important during pregnancy. Low levels of vitamin D have been found in 47-64% of women from various populations and is associated with obesity. Vitamin D deficiency during pregnancy can lead to complications for both mother and fetus such as preeclampsia, low birthweight, impaired glucose tolerance, neonatal hypocalcemic seizures, and issues with skeletal development, fetal lung development, and immune function. Supplementation of vitamin D in pregnancy has been shown to be relatively safe and can help prevent deficiencies. Maintaining adequate vitamin D levels is important for a healthy pregnancy.
