PLANETS AROUND TRAPPIST-1

TRAPPIST – 1 is a planetary system located about 39 light years away from the Solar System. At
least seven planets are orbiting around a star slightly larger than Jupiter. The system was first
discovered in 2015.

Astronomers have discovered something interesting about the planets around one of our closest
stars… … They are all made mostly of rock and may have lots and lots of water! In 2017, seven
planets were found orbiting a very cool dwarf star – TRAPPIST-1. Now, astronomers have found
that some of these planets can hold about 250 times more water than all of Earth’s oceans! The
4th of the seven planets called TRAPPIST-1e is the most similar to Earth in terms of size, density
and radiation of all known exoplants. Whether the water is in steamy clouds, oceans or ice… …
these seven planets, only 40 light years away, may have the potential to be homes for life.
